Windshield Wiper/washer Problems of Buick Regal

2003 Buick Regal. Consumer writes in regards to windshield wipers on general motors vehicles the consumer stated the windshield wiper arm fell off his daughter's vehicle, while driving in inclement weather.

Consumer's vehicle experienced the same problem as stated in NHTSA recall 99v348000. The windshield wipers may stop working due to a separation between the drive pin and crescent in the crank arm assembly. Dealership indicated to the consumer this vehicle was not include due to VIN.

Windshield wipers don't work 1/2 the time. They seem to go off track--you have to stop the car, open the hood and tighten the base--the nut that holds the wiper arm on works loose. This has been happening for about 8 months.

The passenger side windshield wiper did not work, the dealership serviced the vehicle 4 to 5 times and replaced the arm and blade, however the problem recurred.

The nut that secures the drivers side wiper arm to the drive shaft came loose during a driving rain storm while traveling on the PA turnpike. The wipers were operating on the highest speed. The wiper arm flew off from the drive shaft and came to rest against the drivers side view mirror. Drivers vision immediately and severely impaired due to the heavy downpour and only with great difficulty and caution (negotiating through other truck/car traffic) was able to pull off to the side off the road. You would expect a nut, securing such a critical item, would be designed not to come loose. Turnpike service reattached the wiper arm and nut at no charge.

Attaching nut backed off - arm detached from assembly - wiper stopped working during rainstorm - also noticed nut on other side was also loose.

My windshield wiper assembly failed during cold weather conditions. I contacted Buick customer service about my issue and their response was they were not aware of any problems with the windshield wiper assembly.

Windshield wipers move up and down aproximately 4" while in the "off" position. Additionally the wipers will stop, blocking driver view or not work at all while in the "on" or "int" positions.

Windshield wipers do not clear the windows as well when it's snowing outside. Dealer has replaced the blades.
