Buick Verano owners have reported 101 problems related to electrical system (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Buick Verano based on all problems reported for the Verano.
While driving on the highway there was a random harsh jerk on my car, and I was immediately unable to maintain safe speeds driving nearly causing a serious crash. All of the service lights (service parking assist, service power steering, service stabilitrak, and check engine light) should up on the dashboard. Trying to engage the vehicle into drive after parked had a harsh jerk shifting into gear and the accelerator was not working properly (going extremely slower than applied pressure). Mobile mechanic reader coded my vehicle with u0101 “lost communication with tcm”. After touching that tcm connection all of the service lights randomly turned back off, and the vehicle drove (temporarily) normal. No repairs were performed due to possible recall concerns.

I would be driving then radio would blink off and the steering would lose power but the car does not shut off. Radio will come back on and then able to steer again. Ac blower is stop or get low. Lights will blink dim on dash and headlights. I took it to the shop and they can’t find the problem. The car shop googled this and a lot of Buick Veranos have this same problem but can’t find a solution. I need answers because its dangerous to drive and loose steering. This has happened over 6 times in less than a month.

The contact owns a 2016 Buick Verano. The contact stated that the doors of the vehicle were locking and unlocking independently, and the radio failed to turn off as needed. The contact stated that an unknown relay and sensors were previously replaced; however, the failure persisted. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was hacked. The failure mileage was approximately 189,000.
My driver side air bag notification keeps coming on. On and off, while I'm driving. My electrical system is odd. I can not charge any devices and my screen will turn off while I'm driving. I'm giving today's date, but this is an ongoing problem for at least a year.

Vehicle hesitating when attempting to accelerate. No power or minimal momentum when pressing on gas pedal. Transmission control module would randomly drop out and loose communication at the same time the body control module thought the vehicle was in park. It would lock and unlock the doors multiple times and the car would jerk uncontrollably. Extremely unsafe while mobile. Issue first occurred randomly summer of 2023 and has progressively gotten worse. Now it occurs at least once every 2 weeks.
Newly purchased delivery of 2014 Buick Verano. From auto deal makers in chantilly, va. Not even 5 miles driven, car was hesitant at 20mph, felt like it was going to stall out at 40mph, my left upper lip started tingling, my kids felt sick as we all experienced a heavy taste & smell of burnt oil in the cabin of the car. Two hours later my kids & I still could not get the taste of burnt oil off our tongues and back of our throats even after eating. Contacted gm & chevy although they are fully aware of the defect they refuse to accept responsibility. The tingling has now reached my chin as though my children and I have been affected by some form of toxic chemical poisoning. This was the first time I ever drove my newly purchased vehicle, and have been poisoned myself & my kids by the toxic fumes the car is emitting. Total recalls should be done, and full compensation to consumers. Gm & chevy are fully aware of the defects and should be held responsible and accountable for the dangerously hazardous fumes that they are knowingly allowing unsuspecting consumers to become victims of their neglect and found guilty of all laws created to protect consumers, and the environment for these defective vehicles and found guilty pursuant to any and all lemon laws pertaining to aforementioned toxic chemical exposure. All of these makes/models that have similar issues should be recalled immediately for the safety and health of the consumers, and the environment.
My vehicle was rear ended and when the wire connection was detached there was signs of corrosion cause by moisture. The insurance company wont pay for it because the Buick mechanic said this is a common issue with Buick Verano's. When moisture gets into the connectors all instruments on the dashboard goes haywire. It's my belief that this may cause the car to stall and if that happens no power steering or no power breaks.

The side detection system got corroded as it was exposed to water. My airbags, turn signals, speedometer, cameras, blind spot warnings, etc. Went out. This costed almost $2k to replace and get fixed when this could have been avoided if the side detection parts weren't easily exposed to water. Knowing that this could happen again as this is the way the car was manufactured does not sit well with me. It started failing while on an interstate which caused very unsafe driving conditions for me and the drivers around me. This seems to be a common issue with the Buick Verano that has not been addressed in a recall. The warning lights came on as soon as the failure started occurring.
Driving 40 mph all dash electronics went off as going to turn into parking lot medium traffic steering very very hard to turn, made into lot pulled immediately into first open space engine stalled. Put into park attempted to restart, click-click-click like dead battery opened hood alternator belt ok. Walked into nearby restaurant for lunch ( could not close windows) came out (45minutes) car started rite up everything worked - decided to shoot for home (9 miles) steering still very hard to steer made wide turns to get onto road volt gauge read 12. 4 & climbing- windows & all electrical began working as volt gauge hit over 12,8 steering came back to normal. Steering happened 1 other time we were during and within a 1/2 mile it came back.

- the side detection module became corroded, blew a fuse and stopped functioning. This was reported in a service bulletin and extended warranty protection for some gm vehicles, but not the Buick Verano. Https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/tsbs/2016/sb-10081969-2280. Pdf - this happened while driving. The vehicle would still drive, but lost all gauge functions (no speedometer, tachometer, fuel, or temp gauges). -the side obstacle detection system does not work. -the system also interferes with the passenger side airbag and leaves it turned off with a passenger in the seat. These obviously all create a serious safety risk and have not been covered by a recall for this vehicle.
Electrical system shut off and I lost control of car.
Blind spot warning began displaying at startup. Turn signal bell and dash illuminators failed intermittently while driving. A google search revealed the location of blind spot radar module. Inspected right rear module (located in bumper) and found corrosion. Difficult to remove module because of swollen internals. Pried open module after removal to expose corrosion damage to radar cells. The module mount location is openly exposed to road grime and salt. This infiltrated the module and ruined it because the module cover (white panel) is too thinly sealed.
Power steering, brakes, turn signals, monitor screen. The cars steering will lock up and pull to the right hand side and the brakes get mushy. This could be deadly to myself and other motor vehicles. It happens suddenly with out warning and if there is a vehicle in the right hand lane, you will crash into it. I am waiting to take it to the dealer but prior to the steering and electrical, I told them on 10/12/21 oil service about the brakes feeling mushy and they said that’s the way they’re supposed to be. Only other passengers have witnessed the electrical and steering problem happen. At the exact same time the steering goes out the stability trek light flashes on the panel, the media screen goes out and my turn signal (if on) has no audio. I bought the car 3/26/21 @ 44,690 miles. On 10/12/21 I mentioned the brakes and about 2 months after that this electrical/steering problem started happening. It started out as little quirks but has progressively gotten worse. There is not 1 specific thing that seems to trigger the effect, it is variable.
The power steering indicator will show up and shut the car off while driving. You will be unable to stop your car.
My car just shut off while I’m driving.
The car power steering locked and stopped working while driving on the freeway, this incident put at risk myself and my children safety. After exiting the freeway the steering wheel stopped working again. This is a known issue as the car steering power was not recalled but the issue was acknowledged but gm. The car is a safety hazard for the person who drive it and the public.
The dash warning light indicated the blind spot warning system needs service. The passenger side warning light on the side view mirror stopped working. Subsequent internet searches indicated that the bumper module has gone bad. No response from the dealership yet. Other repair shops have quoted $400 to $860 to repair. This is a safety issue.
Vehicle started flashing multiple indicators on the dashboard, including those related to the charging system. Radio screen went off and then the power steering lost electrical boost while turning the steering wheel. Radio screen came back on its own but then it started cycling among its options (am, fm, bluetooth, etc) until settling in fm radio. Second occurrence was similar, although with different manifestations with the dashboard indicators although most concerning behavior dealt with the steering loosing boost almost causing an accident. Have reconnected the battery (changed about 4 months ago, currently showing 12. 38v) and retighten the connections to the poles. Retightened the cables going to ground (they were not loose).
All occurrences happened on city streets and all during the daytime. First time this occurred was on 6/15/2022 with 148,467 miles. It went to the dealer. Lots of low voltage and lots of comm codes stored in a lot of modules. All were cleared out. They could not replicate the problem. Then it occurred again on 7/23, 7/24 and 7/25. Then on 7/26/2022 (twice) with 151,261 miles and again at 151,264 miles. Then 08/01/2022 at 151,475 miles four to five times. And so it goes. The car suddenly lurches like it’s downshifting. If you were to keep driving the car, the transmission does not shift. The faster you go the higher the tachometer goes. When I took it to the dealer, I had to use the highway. Could not go above 60mph. The tach reading was too high. All four door locks start unlocking and locking and they keep doing this till you shut the car off. Vehicle chimes start going off. A “service power steering” message appears on the center message board. A “service stabili trak” message appears on the center message board. A “service parking assist” message appears on the center message board. The malfunction indicator lamp icon is on. The brake system warning light is on. After pulling to the side of the road and you put the car in reverse, there is no backup camera picture. After shutting the car off and then restarting it, all is well until it happens again. Since the first occurrence, I’ve also noticed when using the remote control fob, the car starts then shuts off within three seconds. But it does not do this every time.
Started having the radio blank out and then steering wheel would lose power while driving. Service stability track error comes on. Took in for diagnostic and was told rear control module was bad. After 1500 to 1800. 00 in repairs still had the same issues within 7 days. I've contacted dealership and general motor. I'm afraid my car will lose power while on highway.
Vehicle seems to loose power, radio & power sterring turn off and back on constantly. Shows message " service stability track". I took it back to the lot where I purchased it, they had 2 different mechanics look at it and they could not figure out what is wrong with it. Picked up the vehicle a week in a half later and the vehicle was fine for a week or so and then it started up again. All power is lost on the vehicle while driving, backing up or parking at times, then it turns back on, on its own. Its like it losses power for a few seconds, steering wheel gets hard and radio turns off. Then it turns back on. Its gotten to the point to where its done it on sharp turns. This not only puts me at risk but other people. No service engine light one, gives either "service stability track" or " service power steering" or " collision sensor maintenance", but not service lights are on, no codes.
The car stalls in traffic and the air conditioning will stop working and remote start doesn't work although I have paid for it to be fixed. You can just be driving along the car will stop and not start. It has stalled 6 times in mid traffic putting my life and my children's life in danger we almost was hit by other cars on the highway because the car stopped suddenly. I had the car towed to the shortline Buick GMC 1301 s havana st. Aurora, CO. 80012 because of this and they charged me $1000 and only change filters did not fix the car or the remote start. This on or around October 13, 2020.
Car is having transmission issues. Car doesn't know what gear it's in. Very similar issues to the recall that is saying my car isn't affected. Doors are trying to lock and unlocking by themselves. Stalling and shuts off while driving.
February 2021 electronic parking brake activated while vehicle moving without being activated. Vehicle slid to a stop. This is a major safety issue for both the driver and other vehicles on the road as the vehicle is braking on its own and locking the rear wheels. Service parking brake light illuminated. Vehicle was brought to jim curley Buick GMC in lakewood, NJ. Parking brake module was replaced at customer cost. October 2021 same issue reoccurred. Vehicle was brought again to jim curley. Dealer replaced parking brake module again. Issue reoccurred while in dealer possession. Dealer is now replacing all rear calipers, rotors, and pads at customer cost. Vehicle is a major safety risk as this issue causes the vehicle to unexpectedly brake and lock the rear wheels causing the driver to lose control.
While driving home from work, my car, lost power a few times. Though, the maintenance malfunction light did come on, it was while the issue was occurring. I mention this because, in the car’s manual, it states that the light will come on before the malfunction takes place. I finally made it home, however, the car did continue to lose power while driving. The next morning I took the car to my mechanic, who experienced the same issues, then did a diagnostic test and found these results: p0011; cam position; rctisator bnk 1; timing over advance. Today while reading over all of the complaints, it is evident that this is a serious issue! this malfunction is extremely dangerous and can prove to be fatal, due to losing driving power/car cutting off while driving. I am surprised that this potentially fatal malfunction is not considered to be a recall. Please do what is right and set a recall ???? I also saw someone’s post that stated, there was a recall and free replacement on cars with the letters pp within the VIN#, we’re not be sold or leased in the us due to a federation violation and restricted code. Somehow, I was sold one of these unsafe and banned vehicles. How do those who fall into that same category rectify this problem? thank you for your help.
The service side detection system (ssds) maintenance light appears on my dashboard and remains unless I cancel it out by pressing the menu button on the turning signal. Both sides of the vehicle cannot accurately detect when vehicles are approaching and passing…the ssds indicator lights in the side mirrors come on and off randomly. Currently, my left mirror indicator light remains lit even when the vehicle is turned off. The problem started with my fan…it stopped blowing air. I made a stop and when I restarted my vehicle the fan started again. This problem started about 6-8 months ago. Now…it is getting worst…I am getting errors on all my systems when I start my car. Yesterday, I couldn’t turn my car off…finally when I did, I couldn’t start it. I was not able to engage the brake pedal and couldn’t turn over the vehicle. I remote started the vehicle; however, when I tried to actually start the vehicle by pressing the engine start button it would not turn to green…now, unable to turn over the car completely and again unable to turn off the car I utilized the remote to shut the engine off. This morning, engine turned on and only the ssds light came on and theft detection…fan blower going off and on randomly. A recall is needed.
The car constantly has the same error stating that the ac is off due to high engine temps. Even when first started in the mornings. Last week I was driving and the car showed an error stating that the stablitrak needed serviced. It then jumped lanes and left the road. I lost steering capability as well and my screen for the radio and such keep blacking out and rebooting over and over.
Theses item had a recall. . . And no one notified me. The issues was never checked or fixed.
The blind spot detectors stopped working and a warning on the dash appeared saying "service side detection system". This warning pops up every time I turn on the car and the blind spot detectors do not work when I am driving.
It all started with the side detection system. Told me to have it serviced, as I was on the high way the electrical stated going crazy. Gauges going back and fourth constantly, radio turned off, fans turned off, and blind spots kept blinking. The mechanic found a corrosion issue. They were able to unplug it but it also made it so my rear brake light on the right would not work (which is illegal). It would cost me over $1,000 to fix this issue since the corrosion isn't covered by the warranty. This vehicle was made with a faulty item going out of the factory that way. I am appalled in gm for letting a vehicle go out on the street this way.
Right side passenger blind spot detection does not work and "service side detection system" error message now appears on dashboard. Upon review this appears to be the same issue that affects the chevy cruze of same year for which campaign #n172097060 was issued in April 2019. The sensor module seems to have failed due to poor design that allows water to get in easily. (the Verano is virtually the same car).
On 10/6/2020, I was riding as the front passenger in our 2013 Buick Verano. We were traveling on the highway (70 mph) and hit a bump at the start of a bridge. A warning light illuminated, the engine rpm suddenly increased as if the transmission downshifted, the car decelerated and my wife pulled to the shoulder. We stopped, checked the gear shift and it was still in drive, the warning light disappeared, and everything seemed normal.
Same issue I see multiple gm owners having. Service side detection system malfunctions after multiple repairs. Have had sensors replaced multiple times. I have had to every year at least if not every six months. Initially under warranty, but now no longer under warranty. I understand vehicles have issues, but the same issues over and over again is not okay. I have had where it shorts out my entire electrical system while driving. I literally feared for my life. Even the dealer acknowledges this is a known problem with gm service side detection system. It can happen at any time. It has never been longer than a year before the issue come up again. I am not even able to drive the car because of the issues the service side detection system causes. Either I lose all electrical in the car or it drains the battery so I cannot start the car. I honestly do not feel safe driving this vehicle. I only see the option once to indicate when it happened, so I will put the most recent occurrence.
Making a left hand turn, wrench light came on, stabilitrak light came on, middle console went out and yanked the entire car to the right. Luckily both hands were on the wheel and no cars in the lane to the right, was able to keep the car in the lane barely. Stopped at the car wash, felt the car jump a bit. Drove another 3 minutes home and as I was backing into the my parking spot my middle console went out and came back on several times with approx 4 sec delays being off, cars power steering was off and on constantly, trying to turn the wheel to the left to pull forward a little the car kept jerking forward as I kept trying to turn left but the wheel kept acting like it was hitting a wall, the stabilitrak light kept flashing. Trying to turn it right and back up the middle console kept flashing and the wheel kept jerking. Finally got the car parked and the neighbor heard me on the phone and stepped out to ask if I was ok, when I was trying to park she heard a huge crash at that time and thought it was an accident of some sort. Today was the first day for all of this. The middle console has been flashing on and off for a few months and the stabilitrak light started coming on last weekend.
