1 Equipment problem of the 2016 Buick Verano

Failure Date: 01/05/2026

I am submitting this complaint to report a safety-related issue involving my 2016 Buick Verano. At approximately 112,000 miles, the vehicle experienced a major transmission failure that significantly affected drivability. Shortly thereafter, an airbag warning light illuminated, indicating a potential malfunction of the supplemental restraint system. An independent mechanic advised that the vehicle was no longer safe or economically reasonable to repair due to the transmission failure and the airbag system warning. The cost of transmission repair was estimated between $5,000. 00 and $7,000. 00. The vehicle could not be safely driven, sold, or repaired, leaving me with an inoperable vehicle and an outstanding loan balance. I am submitting this complaint to ensure this issue is documented and reviewed, as transmission failure combined with an airbag warning presents a serious safety concern. Also, it’s been widely documented by other consumers of having the same problem with the transmission failing prematurely on these type of vehicles as well.

No incident.

7 Equipment problem of the 2013 Buick Verano

Failure Date: 05/01/2022

Started having the radio blank out and then steering wheel would lose power while driving. Service stability track error comes on. Took in for diagnostic and was told rear control module was bad. After 1500 to 1800. 00 in repairs still had the same issues within 7 days. I've contacted dealership and general motor. I'm afraid my car will lose power while on highway.

8 Equipment problem of the 2017 Buick Verano

Failure Date: 04/08/2022

Vehicle seems to loose power, radio & power sterring turn off and back on constantly. Shows message " service stability track". I took it back to the lot where I purchased it, they had 2 different mechanics look at it and they could not figure out what is wrong with it. Picked up the vehicle a week in a half later and the vehicle was fine for a week or so and then it started up again. All power is lost on the vehicle while driving, backing up or parking at times, then it turns back on, on its own. Its like it losses power for a few seconds, steering wheel gets hard and radio turns off. Then it turns back on. Its gotten to the point to where its done it on sharp turns. This not only puts me at risk but other people. No service engine light one, gives either "service stability track" or " service power steering" or " collision sensor maintenance", but not service lights are on, no codes.

9 Equipment problem of the 2015 Buick Verano

Failure Date: 04/05/2022

Not sure if this is a safety problem or is just a freak, isolated incident. In either case, I am reporting this since it might impact vehicles other than just my own. I own a 2015 Buick Verano. On Tuesday, April 5, 2022, upon parking my car, I noticed that my driver’s door wasn’t closing correctly. There was a small gap preventing it from closing flush. Upon inspection, it became apparent what was causing the problem: the door lock striker plate had pulled away from the doorframe post to which it was anchored. It was secured by two phillips head screws. My attempt to tighten same was for naught, the screws kept spinning. Fortunately, the door lock striker plate was still operable since it hadn’t pulled away from the post for more than a fraction of an inch, so my door latch was able to catch on to it, but that fraction of an inch was enough to cause the gap when I closed the door. I took the car the next day to a Buick dealer and they referred me to a nearby body shop. The owner looked at the problem and concurred with my initial assessment. He said that in all his years in the field he had never encountered a problem like that. Fortunately, he was able to get the latch striker to lay flush against the column, but he did say it could happen again. So, coming full circle, as I said up front, I don’t know if this is a systemic problem affecting other Buick vehicles from that year, or if it was just an isolate incident. But I guess recall issues have to start somewhere. Rather be safe than sorry, hence my putting this in you court.

10 Equipment problem of the 2016 Buick Verano

Failure Date: 01/22/2022

My car shut off while driving in a busy area. I was going 35 mph where the car just shut off while driving. I received a jump, but that only lasted long enough for me to get 2 lanes over for the car to cut off again. Myself and other drivers were at risk because someone could have ran into me and I had no power and unable to remove key from ignition or even turn the key. Police arrived but said that they are no longer allowed to touch our vehicles. For almost a year my car has been cutting off while parked, and have received news that my battery had a dead cell, which was causing it to shut off. I have taken it to a mechanic who says my alternator is the issue. No warning signs or messages appear before shutting off.

13 Equipment problem of the 2015 Buick Verano

The gearshift does not always work you have to wiggle it around to get it to work and the thing that you have to push back is very loose and this just happened lately I'm not sure if there's a recall on it but something needs to be done with it so it's easier to put your car in park.

14 Equipment problem of the 2016 Buick Verano

Failure Date: 04/06/2020

That were installed on originally. . . On the continental website, there are customer complaints about these tires wearing out too fast and bubbling up on sides of tires. I am experiencing both of these issues. Was told by service, that I need to pay $1100. 00 dollars. I asked to speak to service manager, now I need to pay $500. 00 for tires, and get the same tires. . . So I get to go through this again??? what good is a warranty, and why is it not on the sticker and is not discussed during the purchase of said new vehicle! spoke to hyndai and kia. They have bumper to bumper coverage. And no hidden surprises. Guess what kind of car will be in my driveway?.

15 Equipment problem of the 2016 Buick Verano

Failure Date: 01/16/2020

While testdriving this car, upon acceleration from a stop, a transient wobble, shudder, or shake occurs at or near the right front of the car. We could recreate it on about 8 of 16 tries with various sales persons, mechanics and buyers ddriving. Maybe it occurs near 20 mph and maybe it occurs just after the shift into second gear. The car has no open recalls or history of collision. The localized shake is acknowledged by the pensacola kia salesperson, their dealership mechanic, and the nearby Buick dealership mechanic.

19 Equipment problem of the 2013 Buick Verano

Failure Date: 02/08/2019

My 2013 Buick Verano has been acting weird for about a month now. I first noticed it because the engine light came on one day on my way to work and when I left work it was off. Maybe two days later when I started my car and pulled of it just turned off. So I started it again(starts up fine) and I put in to drive and once I pull off it turned off. It did about 4 times before the car would run normally. This happen twice in the first week, and then it was everyday since then. I did notice that it was struggling to get it out of first gear about the third week. Also when I was on my way to the store and I stopped at a red light and when it turned green and I tried to accelerate it just turned off. But after that rode fine. After that incident I noticed yesterday that everytime I stop now the car will turn off and also if I go anything over 35mph the car jerks as if it wants to stop. This is very unsafe. Also the engine lights comes on and off. And I did google to see if anyone else has had this problem so I can see what the problem could possibly be and found that many people with this same year make and model of car have this issue. I also read that they had recalls for this same year make and model two months after I purchased the vehicle but never received a letter of notice, maybe because it wasn't for my VIN. But with an unsafe vehicle issue such as this, something has to be done.

20 Equipment problem of the 2013 Buick Verano

Failure Date: 02/04/2019

I turned my car on and had both the front and rear defrost. I smelled something funny, so I turned the car off to investigate. I didn't see anything so turned the car back on and pulled back into the driveway and turned it off. Within a minute or two, the entire back driver- side door was in flames. I had to use a fire extinguisher to get rid of the fire. When the mechanic looked at it, he said he had never seen anything like that and guessed it may have been the circuit to the defroster and if I had not of gotten out of the car and turned it off, I could have been seriously injured or died because the car caught so quickly.

25 Equipment problem of the 2012 Buick Verano

Failure Date: 04/06/2018

Our Buick Verano 2012 did not pass inspection last year. When the battery was changed, the date and time went back to that when the car was made. The date and time were adjusted to true date and time. During inspection, the malfunction indicator lamp was on all the time while stationary & in motion. We were told to drive it a long distance to clear itself. It cleared & it passed inspection after driving it for hundreds of miles. Then the not even one year old battery started draining itself without reason because the lights are on automatic. We jumped it when not home and charged it when home. This year it would not pass inspection saying fuel system not ready, evaporative system not ready. The malfunction indicator lamp came on again and disappeared after driving it hundreds of miles. There is only one error message now about fuel system. Mileage now is 29,449. We have used a lot of gas driving it just for the test as it started with 29,065. It does not make sense that we have to drive it just to clear it while we pollute the environment. Something must be wrong somewhere either the testing machine as it was down the first time we went for inspection or the computer system of the car. The inspection failure happened 02/2017 the first time & 02/2018 & 04/2018 the last times. The draining of the battery happened before the last year's inspection. Every now and then it gets drained again! we have to pay for another inspection because we exceeded the time limit allowed for the first fee.

28 Equipment problem of the 2016 Buick Verano

Failure Date: 12/06/2017

While car was unattended at night and parked in the driveway, a fire started, apparently under the drivers seat. The fire burned through the seat and into the driver side door, starting at the bottom and continuing up to the window opening. The drivers door would not open the next day and all the windows were completely smoked over so the interior was not visible. We entered the vehicle through the passenger door and discovered the damage. This event occurred during the night of 12/6/17. As of 1/23/18 Buick has not determined the cause of the problem and has not offered a settlement but has determined the vehicle is a complete loss. The current mileage is approximately 5,500 miles.

I was driving my new car haven't made my first car payment. I was on expressway going 65 miles per hour when my car stalled completely turned off. Managed to get to emergency lane scared to death. 34 Equipment problem of the 2013 Buick Verano

Failure Date: 09/13/2016

While at a stop sign/light (stationary) the vehicle will move forward on it's own. I will have my foot firmly on the brake and it moves. It does it at random. I have taken it to Buick and even contacted corporate about this and now am at a stand still. Buick stated that because there is no recall, no error codes, and they can't duplicate the issue they don't know how to fix this problem. I am stuck with a vehicle that has a safety issue. My major concern is that it may only be moving about a foot now but later will it just keep going causing me to be in an accident.

35 Equipment problem of the 2013 Buick Verano

Failure Date: 03/10/2016

The car only has 20,000 miles on it. I went to the grocery and drug store which is only 4 miles from my home. I pulled into the garage and noticed the fan was running (engine fan) hard. But assumed it was normal for any car to cool down the engine. I went in the house and the fan had stopped on the car. I had to go back into the garage about 10 minutes later and the car fan was on again! a blowing full blast. I opened the door of the car, looked at the dash, saw my fan for the air in the car was at the highest level, turned that down but the car fan outside continued to run. I ran into the house, got my keys and locked the car which turned off the engine fan. My concern is that if this happened and continued to run, my house is an attached garage, it could easily have started a fire. I have called gm and I am waiting on a call back but I concerned not only for my welfare but everyone. I have never seen a car do this. I do not have on star nor sirrus activated so it isn't like someone could have done something remotely.
