36 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Cadillac CTS

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

I have read numerous complaints for the same issue I am reporting on the internet on various websites. The dealership mechanics can't determine the issues and something has to be done! the first time I experienced the problem I was slowly (less than 5mph) turning the steering wheel in the right direction into a parking space and the vehicle would not stop, it jumped the sidewalk, but stopped before hitting the building. I had the vehicle looked at by mechanics at the dealership and they were unable to replicate, but would guess manifold gasket, that’s a lot of money for a guess fix that may not resolve the problem. . 37 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2008 Cadillac CTS

Failure Date: 12/03/2012

The cars engine runs away with my car when I am sitting with my foot on the brake or at very slow idle with my foot on the brake. The problem is one that needs to be recalled. The internet is full of the same complaint for the same year and mileage,( 29,000-32,000 miles ). I am reaching out to you because my car is at the dealer, nothing has been done to fix the problem, and I refuse to take my car back at this point. I paid cash for this car and this is the second time it has been in for the same problem. On Monday afternoon I pulled into my bank with cars in front of me and beside me. I came to a stop, had my foot on the brake and all hell broke loose. My car lunged forward, my engine was screaming, my speedometer said 80 mph, I had both feet on the brake to not hit the woman in front, my rear wheels were smoking and screaming and my car was jumping side to side because of the spinning wheels and nowhere to go because at this point I am standing on the brake with both feet. Someone screamed turn off the ignition and the moment was over. Courtesy Chevrolet in salisbury MD, just called to say the problem didn't throw a code so Cadillac won't pay them to look and fix the problem. If they won"t fix what's wrong they can keep the vehicle and I want my money back and as I told them I won't stop until I get someone to listen and warn others of this problem. I have researched the internet and this is a very serious problem widespread and these cars need to be recalled. My husband says it's probably a problem in the computer that when the precise pressure is applied to the brake, the signal to the engine is go not stop.

41 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Cadillac CTS

Failure Date: 07/11/2012

We own a 2003 Cadillac Cts that we bought new back in late 2002. It currently has about 85,000 lightly driven miles. About 1 1/2 years ago, the engine become stuck at high revolutions. In other words, the car accelerated to high speed and would not slow down. Had to turn off the engine to regain control. We referred to this as a "throttle control" problem--although that may not be the correct terminology. It was repaired by the Cadillac dealer at that time (at considerable cost). Since then, the same problem has occurred two more times. It was repaired by the dealer about 6 months ago but the problem has now returned for a third time. The car is unsafe to drive as unexpected acceleration may occur at any moment. Most recently, the dealer claims that the problem is due to the engine control module (computer)--but it remains to be seen if that will indeed repair the problem. On another occasion, while on a short trip about 9 months ago, the engine began to run extremely unevenly--barely functioning. We limped into a Cadillac dealer who diagnosed the problem as two faulty coils. They replaced those (again as considerable cost) and the car ran well again--until this latest episode of unexpected acceleration where the engine becomes stuck at extremely high revolutions.

43 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Cadillac CTS

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

I was driving home from work when this first happened. All of a sudden a loud screeching noise and the brakes would not stop in time. I had to pump the brakes to work. I took my car to Cadillac in arizona and they had it for 2 days and could not find an issue. I drove home that day with it and sure enough it did it while I was home. It had now began to jerk me to the right and left when I press on the brakes, scaring me thinking I am going to hit the car next to me. I took it to midas this time and they noticed a problem and said maybe its a wheel barring. They replaced issue duplicated itself shortly after. Since I did not have a second car or pay for a rental I had to take my car home to go back to work the next day. This problem is a safety hazard and I have even been pulled over because the cop asked why I was swerving while driving. I told the office its the code that comes up on my screen and it makes my car halt while driving and I can not control it. He stated that its a very serious issue and if another officer was on duty they might impound my car due to a safety hazard but he would give me a chance to take it home to go to the shop. I am almost close to trading in my vehicle and buying a new one, but not a Cts. If Cadillac can't solve this, the creator, who can? I am scared I'm going to veer off the freeway or hit a car on the way to work. I drive an hour to and from work everyday and my safety is the utmost concern to me and my family.

45 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2008 Cadillac CTS

Failure Date: 11/09/2011

After backing the vehicle in to a parking spot I wanted to straighten it out. When I put the car in drive there was a loud shrilling noise (sounded somewhat like brakes peeling) and the car accelerated forward with my foot on the brake. I pumped the brakes in an attempt to stop the vehicle but every time I pushed the brake the car would buck forward. In a matter of seconds the vehicle crashed in to a wall. This whole incident was less than 10 seconds. I would like to note this was a loaner vehicle. I would also like to note that the floor mats for this vehicle were in the trunk of the car and cardboard with plastic wrap over it was being used in their place. I don't know if that had anything to do with this but wanted to make you aware. The vehicle instantly began leaking fluid and had to be towed to the dealership. The tow truck driver made a comment that there was something wrong with the vehicle. Updated 02/07/12.

47 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Cadillac CTS

Failure Date: 06/17/2011

We were leaving a diner parking lot in the afternoon, when I had to stop for a delivery truck blocking our exit. When the truck pulled forward I lightly pressed the accelerator and the car began to surge forward and to our left(my wife was in the car with me). I pressed down on the brakes and the car continued forward and began to turn to the right and I tried to steer the car to the left but the steering did not respond resulting in my hitting two parked cars. I had the car towed to the Cadillac dealer. The dealer indicated that there was nothing wrong with the car and suggested that the surge was caused my a secondary car mat but could not explain the steering problem. This same situation occurred during our severe snow storm last winter. At the time I assumed it was due to icing conditions on the road and my dealer indicated that they had reset the car codes to correct any errors(stability control light stayed on).

52 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2008 Cadillac CTS

Failure Date: 12/05/2009

I was driving my sister-in-law's 2008 Cadillac Cts home from work one night in December. I came up to the street out of the mall parking lot and put my foot on the brake to slow down. Suddenly, the engine took off and revved up to around 4000rpms, so much I could hardly hold it with the brakes. I put in park and reached down to feel the floor mat to see if it was on the accelerator. It was not. I turned off the car. The next day, I took it to the gm dealer. I don't think they believed me because they could not repeat the condition. They had me leave the car and they said they would look at it. The next day I picked ut up. They said that they had re-programmed the throttle body control unit. I left with the car and proceeded to exit the lot. Just as I got to the street, it took off again, revving to about 4000 rpms or so. I immediately went back and told the dealer what happened. They stared at each other and shrugged their shoulders. They never fixed the problem. I am convinced that this is a software issue in the throttle control system, just like Toyota is dealing with. If my wife had been driving this car, she could have been seriously injured. This is a very serious problem and needs attention immediately,. It is not just Toyota.

Vehicle has twice accelerated forward upon braking when coming to a stop. First time was in a parking lot. No damage occurred, but experience very frightening. Second time was returning from doctor appointment. A passenger in the vehicle at the time and experienced the defect. While coming to a stop behind a group of cars at the stop light, brakes applied to slow the car to a crawl, then suddenly the car surges forward. Upon slamming brake fully to the floor, the vehicle stopped, missing hitting the car ahead and stopped by only inches. Vehicle was taken to dealership, which kept the car over the weekend, supplying a loaner car. Called dealership Monday afternoon. Told there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. It was driven a total of 80 miles over the weekend and the problem was not recreated. The trouble is, it was almost 450 miles between the first problem occurrence and the second one. They were almost one week apart. Now I am told by the dealership that since the computer found no defects over the weekend, my car is ready for me to drive. I now have a defective car with a serious safety issue, which I am afraid to drive. I told them I wanted a piece of paper stating the car was free of defects, so when this occurs again, I will be notifying my insurance company and we will take action against this dealership if any damage results from another occurrence of this type. I am also going to request the dealership to allow the computer to stay hooked up to the car for at least a week when I go tomorrow to pick up the car.
