Three problems related to air bag not deploy have been reported for the 1996 Cadillac Deville. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While traveling at 65 mph in heavy traffic on highway a small black object appeared on pavement, consumer was unable to stop or turn right or left because of heavy traffic, vehicle passed over the object and it went between wheels and down middle of car. Both driver's side and passenger side air bags deployed. Consumer made it to shoulder. Consumer stated that passenger's side window broke, and that passenger and driver sustained cuts and burns. Consumer has contacted dealer. Consumer feels the airbags should not have deployed for just running over highway debris.
The airbags failed to deploy in a head-on collision in the car even though they deployed in the other car that was involved in the accident. The Cadillac had extensive damage to the left front end to the extent that the unibody on that side was crumpled, a large part of the front will be replaced and the windshield was broken. If the seat belts had not worked extremely well, holding both front seat passengers against the seat, there would have been severe injuries.
Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision and then rolled over, and the airbags did not deploy. The dealer has been notified. Owners will notify the manufacturer.
