Tank Assembly problems of the 1997 Cadillac Deville

Two problems related to tank assembly have been reported for the 1997 Cadillac Deville. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

The contact owns a 1997 Cadillac Deville. The contact stated that while traveling 40 mph, gasoline fuel fumes emitted from the front driver's side of the vehicle. The fuel gauge indicated that there a half of tank of gas was in the tank, when the tank was nearly empty. The vehicle has gone empty on fuel on three separate occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 113,000 and the current mileage was 114. 000. The VIN was not available.

2 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2000

Fuel tank sensor causes an incorrect indication of the level of fuel left in the fuel tank. When the tank is approximately half full, the sensor becomes erratic and shows various fuel levels. I would consider this a safety issue because of the incorrect levels of fuel remaining in the tank being incorrectly displayed. A driver could think that there is a full tank left but run out of gas in a busy traffic area as one example.
