general problems of the 1998 Cadillac Deville

Four problems related to steering have been reported for the 1998 Cadillac Deville. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2004

While driving 25 mph, smoke started to come from the steering wheel. The consumer managed to drive home. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. Please provide more information.

2 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2003

The vehicle would make a noise when driving over bumps and the driver had difficulty steering. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the mechanic replaced the sway bar links and the steering rack. Vehicle only has less than 50,000 miles. There was binding when hot and dry binding when cold, the tire were wearing on the insides and thin.

3 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2002

While driving the vehicle at the speed of 35mph, the engine shut off. Lost the control of the power steering. Dealer has been notified. Please provide further information.

4 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2002

After starting the vehicle and driving approximately three to four miles the service stability control system comes on. Had it checked by a Cadillac dealer. They indicated the vehicle needs to have the steering wheel position sensor (1287) and the wheel sensor (?) (1255) ebtcm replaced at a cost of $1230. 00.
