The contact owns a 1995 Cadillac Deville. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration and inadvertently shifted into cruise control and then seized in full idle. The accelerator pedal depressed independently. The high battery voltage and oxygen sensor warning lights were illuminated. The dealer was made aware of the failure and diagnosed that the vehicle needed an idle control motor replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.
Takata air bag, do not know if that item is in my car but they say it is. Also like so many northstar engines there is trouble with the head gasket, and according to the hydrocarbon block test, mine must be replaced. In order to replace it, the engine and power train must be removed, at my expense. Due to this issue, my car continues to try and overheat after about 29 miles of driving. After listening to those folks on the Cadillac forum, I have been lead to believe, the overheating issue may be, partly the fault of the fine thread head bolts and or studs. Many mechanics I have spoken with have said that I need a new engine, although the folks on the Cadillac fourm have said that time-serts, or the larger studs/bolts might fix the issue. Never the less, with each Cadillac Deville dhs with the northstar engine I read about, the same issue exists for almost all of them, which indicates to me that there was an issue in the original design of possibly not using a large enough bolt/stud to begin with. Either that or Cadillac may have had a planned obsolescence type thing to get the drivers to keep replacing their automobiles. And they say recalls are not covering this design flaw. . . .

My son was driving down the road at 35 miles and hour and the engine dropped out of the car. Upon inspection of the car afterwards, it appears that the rubber bushings on four bolts for the engine mounts had disintegrated / dry rotted and the bolts that were holding the engine into car were severly rusted which resulted in letting the engine drop out of the car. The car had just passed inspection. There was no rust on the body of the car and only slight surface rust on very little of the cars undercarrage. My son was driving down the highway at 65 miles an hour the day before. It is my understanding that you could not see this dry rot on the engine mounts when the engine was mounted in correct position.
The engine fell out the engine craddle broke lose from the frame it rusted through the rest of the car has no rust and is in perfect condition. Thank god I had just gotton of the highway and it happened stpped at the stop sign. Do I have any recourse .

In September of 2014, I received a recall from the state of massachusetts about (1) part that must be repaired in my 2003 Cadillac Deville sedan: (1) ignition switch 14v355000, the only recall showing up on the gm web-site is the ignition switch and the other three and the first are listed here totaling (4) recalls all together! after entering my make, model, year, and VIN, of my vehicle I received three more urgent recalls ! (2) fuel tank pressure sensor 03v238000, (3) driver air bag 03v051000, and the (4) air bag inflator 02v222000. During a recorded phone conversation an agent and a manager at/from (gm) general motors stated that they do no honor any recalls from safercar. Gov/NHTSA or any other web-site as they are "not valid" but their own @gm. Com. These are serious recalls that require immediate attention and validation by gm before they are sued for much more than simple repairs! I thank you for your time! blessings! on August 21, 2013, he paid $300 to replace a tie rod. On December 30, 3013, the tie rod broke again. He had to call aaa several times due to electrical failures, which caused the vehicle to stall. Updated 11/26/14.

For the second time in about one month, the engine died and electric power went out (dashboard lights). The car restarted without difficulty when I pulled off the road and put it into park. We received a recall notice on this vehicle in August. After the first incident I carefully checked the battery cables and found nothing wrong. The battery is almost new. After getting the recall notice I checked the operation of the ignition switch and I found that the detent works perfectly. I had turn the key ccw by a large amount to turn off the engine and no amount of jiggling would cause the fault. Two different keys were involved in the two episodes. There is no possibility that my failures are related to weight hanging on the key. Even so I asked the local dealer as well as the gm hotline when they can install the "fixes" and I was told that no parts may be available for months. About two weeks ago a person on the gm hotline promised to find a dealer with parts and call me back but did not do so. I have no confidence that gm will solve my problem with their recall fix, if and when it is executed, and fear that there is another common cause for the many failures that have been reported.
Main computer failed while driving causing total loss of power. One pin was bad in the computer that controls the cars fuel, engine, etc. Replaced the defective computer costing over $1,000. Prior to the failure the check engine light came on many times. The computer did not store a code for this problem. This total loss of power is a costly safety issue.

The contact owns a 2001 Cadillac Deville. While driving 6 mph, the vehicle jerked, lost power steering, and stalled. A warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed and was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified about the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
When trying to make a turn on wet roadway (not a puddle of water) or trying to turn at a light for instance while it is raining, even at a low rate of speed, the power steering locks and the car will not continue to turn, causing traffic behind you to come to a screeching halt. After stopping the steering will slowly loosens up allowing you to complete the turn. I have had it checked out with my repair garage but they couldn't find anything. Since I am aware of this happening I'm very careful when making a turn in the rain. I'm thankful I wasn't on the interstate doing 60.
Engine shuts off without warning, sometimes when stopped and/or while moving. This has happened about 4 times in the last year. Suspect a defect ignition switch and/or a crankshaft position sensor.

The steering wheel is vary hard to turn and make a hard grinding noise. Experienced an jarring event in traffic and the car cut off. No braking power. While driving there is vary little power.
Notified last summer (2014) about recall. . . In September (2014) notified to schedule an appointment for the repair. . . Have called the local dealer several times. . . . Dealer does not have the necessary materials to correct the problem. Have experienced several times the ignition turning off. . . . (the reason for the recall). . . Fortunately have not had an accident. What is holding up the repairs? why send a letter instructing us to now get it repaired when the local dealer does not have the materials needed? very frustrating!!!!.

This northstar engine has leaked oil,(not burning it) since 40,000 miles. I use 2 or more quarts of oil between oil changes. It leaks whenever it is parked. I have spent monies on this, but it appears a major engine repair is needed. Some say, the bolts were too short, and others say, this defect continued until the 2006 year.
The lens over the speedometer catches reflects too much of the rear surface of the steering wheel, blocking view and making it difficult to read speedometer, and other instruments.
