My 2009 Cadillac Dts recently had a problem with the steering, it was steering hard when making right or left turns and eventually began making noises. I took it to my gm dealer and they checked the hoses and fluid receptacle. All they found was the receptacle was low on power steering fluid and I picked up a bottle at an auto parts store and then my steering was ok. Several weeks later my steering got very hard and I had trouble steering it so I stopped and added more fluid. I returned to the dealer and was told my power steering line was leaking at one end where it was attached to some metal. My cost was $402 to replace the one hose. This leaky hose made my car very hard to steer and I can't imagine why a strong hose like this one would ever leak especially on a vehicle with below average annual mileages. The incident occurred around 61,700 miles and could have caused a bad accident.

After experiencing a loss of power steering, I took the vehicle to vera Cadillac in pembroke pines, florida. It was determined that the power steering hose was leaking at the crimp. Also, the fluid leaked down to the serpentine belt which sprayed the fluid all over the engine compartment. The hose and the belt were replaced at my expense (over $500). I knew there was a recall (NHTSA campaign id number 06v105000) for this vehicle concerning this exact problem but I was told that based on my VIN that my vehicle was not included in the recall. Based on the amount of complaints I've read online from people who have experienced the exact same scenario, I find it hard to believe this is a coincidence. I have the exact same vehicle with the exact same failure as stated in the recall. My vehicle was manufactured on 2/06 and has very low mileage. Someone needs to investigate why these other vehicles were not included in the recall. It seems to me that someone simply made a mistake when gm first investigated which vehicles to include.

Upon inspection, the contact noticed that the power steering pressure hose exhibited a hole, which was leaking power steering fluid onto the engine. The contact did not take the vehicle to a dealer or a local mechanic due the vehicle being inoperable. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign I. D. 06v105000 (steering:hydraulic power assist:hose, piping, and connections) and called the manufacturer. The manufacturer stated that the recall (gm recall number:06026) was non- existent. The failure mileage was 50,000.
