On 05/2014 I came to a stop sign then I move on to get across the street when my Cadillac shut down all electrical controls the engine came to a complete stop as my car lays dead in the middle of the street a vehicle going west hit my right front end so hard it twisted hood, front doors, fenders and engine parts fifteen minutes before I dropped my daughter at school she could have die in this incident due to failure of airbags they never deployed three months later I receive a recall # 14299 I call several people including mary barra ceo, they all lie to me by telling me that there is nothing wrong with my Cadillac when they haven't done anything to the car I also own a cobalt 2007 recalled on 04/2014 I am still waiting for both cars to be fixed like the law requires as for my 2000 Cadillac Seville sits in my garage with $10,000. 00 worth of repair cost general motors refuse a half of dozen times to take responsibility for the failure of the Cadillac electronic systems, airbags, brakes, power steering and all the items that could have end as a fatality to a member of my family including myself. 12/24/2014.

The contact owns a 1996 Cadillac Seville. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle drove over a slight bump in the road and the air bags suddenly deployed. The contact noticed smoke coming out of the air bags. The vehicle became engulfed with smoke and was very hot. In addition, the contact smelled something burning. The vehicle was driven back to his residence and the auto club came out to cut the air bags. The dealer denied that there was a recall for the vehicle. There is a recall for this vehicle, but only for the 1995 Seville (NHTSA campaign id number 98v115000 (air bags)). Another dealer was notified and they also denied that there was a recall for this type of vehicle. The contact sustained a sprained thumb and bruises on both hands. The passenger side air bag did not deploy. There was only smoke inhalation from the air bags. The vehicle is currently at the contact's residence. The vehicle has not been repaired, although it was inspected and appears to have a defect. The failure and current mileages were 125,000.

On June 17, at or about 7:30 pm, my wife entered her vehicle, a 1999 Cadillac Seville sts, she turned the key to start the car, and the driver side airbag deployed. The vehicle was parked on dry pavement, the vehicle was not in gear, and had sustained no previous damage. We contacted the local dealership, and subsequently, the manufacturer, to no avail. To date, they have refused to assist us with this problem. Upon contacting the dealership, on Friday, June 18, five different mechanics told us that this type of deployment is "not supposed to occur. " that, in fact, the airbag should not deploy if the car is not in gear. Further, upon contacting the manufacturer, I was told again that this situation should not occur. The manufacturer told me that the only circumstances under which the airbag will deploy inadvertently is if moisture or corrosion builds up. Under these circumstances, a warning light will display to signal the driver that there is a problem with the airbag system. There was no indication that there was a moisture or corrosion buildup in the system. Since the airbag deployed under circumstances in which it is not supposed to, and since there was no indication by virtue of a displayed warning light, there is obviously a defect in the design or manufacture of this system, on this particular model vehicle. Fortunately, my wife was not driving the car when the deployment occurred. However, with thousands of 1999 Cadillac Seville's on the road, it may simply be a matter of time when an inadvertent deployment occurs while the vehicle is moving. Obviously, deployment under these circumstances, rather than save lives, may result in the loss of life; and considering that the manufacturer is unwilling to acknowledge or assist to repair such defect, government or regulatory intervention is imperative to avoid the potential loss of life.

While consumer's vehicle stopped at a traffic light it was rear ended by another vehicle, causing consumer's vehicle to rear end the vehicle in front. Upon impact, both frontal air bags did not deploy, and seat belt failed. Driver sustained injuries.
