I own a 1996 Cadillac Seville. Nhtsa recall campaign number: 04v110000
NHTSA action number: ea04003
my gm service request number: 71-584885453
issue:
my Cadillac's fuel rail has a leak (in fact 3). I found the recall on-line, and called Cadillac. They stated they inspected the vehicle on 9/13/2004 and at that time, there was no leak. They did not replace the fuel rail with the stainless steel rail. They told me yesterday (lin foster at gm corporate 800-333-4223) that their duty was to inspect the vehicle. And as they had inspected it in 2004 and there were no issues then, they had no duty now. I took the Cadillac to my Cadillac dealership this morning (bob allen Cadillac in danville, ky). They confirmed that there was no stainless steel fuel rail on the car. I called gm Cadillac again (800) 458-8006. Spoke with jill this time. She stated she could not pull up the NHTSA information to read it herself. . . So I read it to her. She had my VIN, and to me, the recall information is quite clear. The 8th digit of my VIN is "y", and as I read the recall information, gm is supposed to install the stainless steel fuel rail. Gm/Cadillac state they have no duty what-so-ever. That their obligation was performed in full with their 9/13/2004 inspection (in which they also confirm they did not replace the fuel line). They will not assist in any way. They dealer is readily willing to do the repair, if I pay for it. Help please!!

While driving the smell of gasoline in the cabin of the vehicle became overwhelming. Driver pulled over and noticed gas streaming from the fuel rail. Fuel rail was replaced with updated version by mechanic.
Consumer received recall notice 04v110000 concerning fuel rail tubing. After recall repairs were done when driver start up the vehicle it hesitated while driving at anytime. Mechanic determined that the fuel pressure regulator needed to be replaced, but this part was not included with this recall notice. Gm had to redesign the fuel pressure regulator, which is an interact part of the fuel rail but expects the consumer to pay for it. Consumer feel this is unfair.
1996 Cadillac Seville. Strong smell of fuel coming from under the hood. Removed the engine cover to see fuel spraying out of a pin hole in the fuel rail. It was wetting wires contained in a harness. I am unable to drive the car and will be bringing it to the dealer.
Fuel leak caused passenger compartment to fill with gasoline smell. Opening the hood and removing the plastic cover over the engine found a fuel rail tube squirting gas continuously on the intake manifold when the engine was operating. The engine was immediately shut off to prevent a fire.
I have a 1997 Cadillac Seville sts and the fuel rail sprung a leak resulting in gas spread on the engine and fumes in the passenger compartment. This is extremely dangerous and had I not stopped quickly, a fire would have resulted. From my car repairman and looking on the web, this is not an isolated incident. Note complaint 10045758.

In reference to open investigation pe03050. I have Cadillac Seville, sts, 1997. Had exactly the same problem as described -- strong fuel smell in the car -- when checked by the dealership -- there was a pin hole in the fuel rail -- I have seen it myself and it was scary. Logged the complaint with Cadillac: 1-143771161 on 09/30/2003, but they were not willing to investigate any further at that time. Cadillac should recall all these vehichleas soon as possible because this is a significant fire hazard. Please feel free to contact me at (262) 860 6403 (work) if you have any questions. Fuel rail cracks and leaks gasoline into the engine compartment.
Fuel rail leaked. Dealer stated rail was installed backwards. The fuel rail developed a leak in the heat shrink tubing which caused fumes to enter the cabin of the vehicle.
Consumer states that when they had oil changed on vehicle was informed that, the fuel rail was leaking fuel onto the motor and that the vehicle was not drivable, according to the dealership this is a common problem and the part is on back order. Mr.
Consumer stated that the fuel injection rail was made of plastic. The manufacturer was contacted, and stated, that they only will replace metal not plastic.
While driving the vehicle the consumer began to smell gas. The consumer pulled over popped the hood and noticed gas cascading from the engine. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who indicated that the fuel rail split. Please provide any further details.
