1 Hatchback/liftgate Support Device problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2011 Cadillac Srx. While using the remote key fob, the hatch failed to operate. The hatch had to be opened manually and would close independently. On one occasion, the hatch closed on the contact's head, but there were no injuries. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the liftgate pump needed to be replaced and the hydraulic arms were leaking on the driver's side. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called an unknown Cadillac dealer and notified them of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

2 Hatchback/liftgate Support Device problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2018

I was parked in a residential driveway and opened the rear liftgate to remove my son's hockey bag from the back. I was leaning in pretty far because the bag had slid toward the backseat, when the liftgate closed on its own. I had not pressed any buttons, no one else was in the vehicle or around. The liftgate hit me in the back and pushed me forward as it continued to close. I was pinned (with half of my body in the car and half out of the car) and the door was continuing to close. My left arm was stuck under me. I was eventually able to turn slightly and used my right arm and right hip to try to opn the hatch. It did eventually start to open. I was relieved and took a deep breath and then started to retrieve the hockey back when I realized it had closed again. This time was even worse as I was completely pinned. I tried to rotate and use my right hip again. I honestly though my car was going to kill me. The door did eventually open again and that time I immediately got out of the car. I watched as the hatch opened and then immediately closed again. (thankfully, without me in it this time. ) I immediately called my dealership. They made an appointment for me in one week, so I did not use the hatch again. I also called gm customer service as I was very concerned that this could kill someone. The agent said she had never heard of this happening. I later found out that this has happened frequently and that the right strut in my liftgate would be the problem. Sure enough the dealer confirmed the problem and repaired it at my expense. Now, gm has passed me from agent to agent and has done nothing for me. They said that I "have an obligation and responsibility to ensure that the subject vehicle and its related components are maintained and preserved in their immediate post-incident condition. . " I had it fixed becasue it would be irresponsible not to.

3 Hatchback/liftgate Support Device problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2017

The contact owns a 2011 Cadillac Srx. While raining, the well in the rear of the vehicle filled with water, which flooded the rear electrical system in the rear of the vehicle. The failure resulted in the liftgate not functioning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the electronic modules in the rear of the vehicle failed and needed to be repaired. The manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle was previously serviced per a manufacturer's communication (g-208314) and further assistance would not be provided. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

4 Hatchback/liftgate Support Device problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2016

On several occasions, the hatchback liftgate opened by itself. Then it would not open at all which doesn't allow any access to the rear cargo area where flat tire repair gear is located. I then determined that the expensive electrical liftgate mechanism became submerged in water from sunroof drain tubes that fail to drain rain to the ground. A further look revealed that the front seat and rear seat floor mats were saturated where electrical cables are routed. Can you provide me with a copy of NHTSA reference # 10078604 or TSB reference # pic-5260-a or any other information why general motors hasn't recalled Cadillacs with this unsafe condition.

5 Hatchback/liftgate Support Device problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2016

Lift gate failed to open. According to warranty company water leaked from the sunroof from the drains onto the liftgate motor and shorted it out. It was not covered by the warranty because it was considered water damaged.
