The contact’s father owns a 2020 Cadillac Xt5. The contact stated that while attempting to use the driver's side rear seat belt, the seat belt failed to buckle securely. The contact had not attempted to use the rear passenger’s side seat belt. The contact stated that the vehicle had not been taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
I was involved in a front end collision with a car that pulled out in front of me without looking. I ended up t-boning the car at approx. 20-25 mph. Both myself and my wife were wearing our seat belts. Mine held but the passenger one held only the lap belt part. The shoulder part of the sb allowed her face to go crashing into the dashboard. She ended up with abdominal injuries and head trauma. I took it to the dealer and they say the seat belt will need to be replaced as it is defective. (you think). I can pull on the shoulder strap rapidly and it will not 'catch'.

The contact stated that the feature tightened the seat belt to secure the occupant; however, the passenger’s side seat belt continued to tighten while driving at various speeds. The contact stated that his wife tucked her arms in between the lap belt and the seat belt tension was released. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where he was informed that there was no fault with the feature and that the feature operated as needed. The contact was also informed that the feature could not be turned off. The manufacturer had been notified of the issue but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired.
