Warnings Problems of Cadillac XT5

We were traveling out of our development at 17-20mph while approaching our exit gate the car jolted forward and accelerated at a rapid speed. My husband immediately stepped on the brake but the brake pedal became hard, the brake did not work. The car would not stop while pressing down on the brake. We crashed through the exit gate heading to the water, he then turned the wheel which also became difficult to turn as we headed into the brick wall . Hitting the wall, caused the car to come to a stop! upon the airbags deploying there was a fire which burned through my husbands shirt and burned his arm. The car is available for inspection. It is currently in the salvage yard in mt pleasant south carolina. Coastal Cadillac dealership declined to have the vehicle diagnostic tested to find out why the car malfunctioned because the car was declared as expediated totaled by state farm insurance company. The vehicle gave no warning messages to our knowledge messages prior to the accident. Engine and braking components failed.

Failed transmission--April 16, 2026 I was backing out of my garage when I heard a very loud bang noise and it stopped my car instantly. I thought I had hit something but I did not. On may 22, 2026. I stopped at a red light a few cars back but when the light changed the car would not go as it hesitated a few seconds (maybe 15) like it was not going to drive off but it did. On may 23, 2026, I was going up the driveway from my sisters house and again the very very loud bang noise and it stopped instantly. This time it pushed me toward the steering wheel, if I had been going a little faster I think the air bag would have popped out. This time the flasher come on like someone pulled out or I was going to hit something. I was told by the Cadillac service person that they would drive it cold today(may 26, 2026) and see if anything happens. Well I am not driving this car 55 miles per hour and it stops instantly maybe killing me and others on the road. I think this is a safety problem. I love my Cadillac but I do not want to die in it.

After exiting a car wash (automated)on Monday-7/3/23, I was attempting to stop my vehicle so I could dry the exterior with towels. I was on the car wash property and as I approached an area that was open, I attempted to stop the vehicle, the engine revved very high and the vehicle took off at a very high speed in fractions of a second. The vehicle then climbed over a flower embankment and hit the wall of the car wash. The impact was so great that it put a large hole in the wall and ruptured a main water line creating a huge water leak. The fire department and police officer arrived at the scene to make a report. My initial thought was that my sandal may have got trapped but after returning home and rethinking the entire incident may times I believe this was “unintentional acceleration “ the driver side airbag and knee airbag were deployed. Thankfully I was not hurt. Had this happened when I was on a road or a grocery store/ mall parking lot things could have been very serious. I have insurance through state farm and have requested them numerous times to have a diagnostic check done to identify the reason for this to happen and they have declined my request. Please let me know what the next steps are.

After a rainy highway speed 50 mile trip I stopped to get a lotto ticket at my local store. I shut the vehicle off. It took me approximately 2 to 3 minutes to buy the lottery ticket. I started the vehicle and noticed that my power steering was not operating. I could barely move the steering wheel ( it seemed locked) and I barely made my 10 mile trip to my house using secondary dirt roads . I called my dealer and was told that sometimes after an overnight of non use the problem would go away. The next morning I started the vehicle and the power steering was back to normal. I took it to my local Cadillac dealer and they scoped it and found no defect codes recorded. I was very fortunate that the incident didn’t occur while driving at I-75 . At high speeds without steering it would have resulted in possible multiple serious injuries or deaths. I hope that their is a possible fix to the steering loss but my dealer has no clues at this time. Mileage on my vehicle is approximately 14500 miles. I currently have no confidence in this vehicle and will not have my 75 year wife drive it. My age is 77. Another serious incident that I had with this vehicle when it was new was the automatic forward collision braking . I was making a left turn and for no reason the car suddenly braked hard and stalled. I was fortunate that the oncoming traffic stopped and gave me a chance to restart and move away from the intersection. The problem was resolved by my dealer by reducing the sensitivity of the forward collision braking.
