Wiper Problems of Cadillac XT5

While driving down the freeway at approx. 65 miles per hour, I heard a very loud sound like an explosion, or a huge balloon exploding, and then heard crackling of glass. It was very scary and dangerous. I had to slow down immediately, and was able to get off the freeway. I pulled into a gas station, and tried to figure out where it came from. I realized that my sunroof was either hit with something or just simply exploded. There was a hole in the center, and the glass was cracked throughout the front sunroof. I could hear the glass pieces moving around on the sunroof shade that was thankfully closed. I bought duct tape and covered the hole and all of the cracks so I could drive it home. I took side streets and drove slowly home.

There is an open service bulletin on my car - 17128 potential loss of hvac control. This loss of control affects the defrost on the vehicle making it very dangerous to drive when it is raining out as it severally reduces visibility.

Our Xt5 began getting 'steering assist reduced' message about a year ago. It comes and goes , coming more often now. The problem is the thermostat and is a very common issue with numerous complaints here and on Cadillac forums (below). The problem is, when this issue occurs the ac stops working, and when that happens you have no windshield defrost, and that is a safety problem. Cadillac has TSB's describing this issue but refuses to cover it goodwill as we are slightly out of warranty. The repair is extensive, requiring 4. 5 of time. My new car has a serious lag issue. The car is not responsive to the gas pedal. You have to press the gas a lot to get moving. Once moving a lot lag. If I press it fast. Completely non responsive. My car is slower than any other car I have driven. Although this is 310 hp. Feeels like 150 hp. And I get only 12-15 miles to the gallon. Regular driving in suburbs and highway.

Driving the car normally at night the dashboard lights went to full intensity without driver input, and wouldn't change. A few minutes later the rear windshield wiper started operating and wouldn't stop. Twenty minutes later the car flashed a notification that power steering assist was not functioning, and it became very difficult to steer. The turn signals would not operate. The low fuel warning indicator came on showed zero miles left even though there was at least a quarter tank left. The speedometer readout changed to zero, while we were driving at about 35 mph. We were able to safely stop the car at a convenience store / gas station. The ignition switch wouldn't turn off the engine, the heat came on and wouldn't turn off, the windows wouldn't roll down, and the doors locked themselves. The rear windshield washer continually pumped out fluid. The front windshield wipers started and wouldn't turn off. We called hertz and while we were on the phone with them the engine did shut down. Hertz sent a tow truck to retrieve the car. When he arrived he called me to ask what the problem was with the car, as he found it to be operating normally.

The guidelines often fail to display when switching the car in to reverse. The dealer has inspected and provided the following response: �the cause of the condition may be the rvc image being provided via an alternate robust rvc feed from the video bypass module. To ensure that the rvc image is always present when in reverse this alternate robust rvc feed is provided if the primary camera feed is not available for any reason. A calibration change has been made that reduces, but does not eliminate, every cause of missing rearview camera guidelines. � however, it seems to occur more than half of the time that the guidelines fail to display.

We bought Xt5 on 12/04/18, on 02/19/19, brought in for transmission and check engine light. 06/10/19, brought in for routine maintenance and service. 06/16/19, on the way back from knoxville on freeway I-40, while it was raining hard, all lights inside and out and windshield wipers didn't work. Wipers were standing up right in front of driver and stop, never move back down. We were surrounded with high speed cars and trucks, and semis, in the rain and couldn't see the front with no wipers, and inside the car was pit black. We must drive for around a mile before getting to a next exit. Got off exit, call onstar for help, they said wait 90 minutes for tow truck and we must find our own transportation to get home, since it was Sunday, no one was open at that time. We didn't know where we were so we waited out the rain, and drove slowly back in town, with wipers sticking up in front of driver, to meet up with sales rep. Tim marcum for help, he loan us a car to get home and came the next day, Monday, to see jayson taylor, Cadillac manager. We asked them to buy back the car since we are so scare now what would happen next time with the car. They suggested us calling gm directly. We did, and jayda, senior case manager said she would only pay for fixing but not buying back, unless something major happened, like transmission, engine, brakes,. . We told her that this was serious, we we were in danger of loosing our lives there, but obviously it was not serious to her, we said what if the same thing happened, on freeway, fast speeding cars and trucks, raining hard, but instead of no lights and now wipers, this time no brakes or sudden stop and engine not starting. What would happened? in 6 months period, 2 incidents already, the later is more serious than the first, we rather prevent problems than having to deal with it, what if the problems getting bigger or someone get hurt.

When driving when raining, the passengers wiper cleans three quarters of the windshield and deposits the water directly in front of the drivers line of sight and remains there until the drivers wiper comes back to remove it causing an extreme loss of visibility especially at night.

Poor headlamp performance. At this price point, high intensity discharge should be standard. Night time driving & driving in inclement weather is a safety hazard with these poorly designed halogen projector headlamps.

#1 I have problem viewing thru windshield because light beige dashboard reflecting onto the inside of the windshield (sun glare). . . #2 I have hard to see rearview when back up because too dim backup lamps. . .
