Adaptive Equipment Problems of Chevrolet 1500

Chevrolet 1500 owners have reported 6 problems related to adaptive equipment (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2003 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 06/20/2014

On Friday, June 21, 2014 while on a friends property in placerville, CA, my spare tire fell off the underside of the bed of my truck. I'd bought the truck new in 2003 and don't recall ever having used the tire since I bought it new. I was able to find a couple of the parts that secured the spare under the bed of the truck. In one sense, I was glad it didn't happen while on a freeway doing 65 mph. What a catastrophe that would have been for other drivers behind me. The vehicle is not used for off-road purposes.

2 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2002 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 05/30/2014

My brake lines failed, nearly resulting in killing a child that rode his bike onto the road from a driveway and forcing a vehicle headon into my lane of travel. Luckly everyone was able to squeeze into appropriate places and was paying attention as I was unable to slowdown. Dust covers on the rear have been rusted and gone for the last two years, and I have replaced the regulators in both passenger/driverside doors three time each due to the cables rusting and snapping. When I took my vehicle into Chevrolet dealer ship for maintenance, it had less than 36k at the time, they removed one plastic panel (falling down from behind the door interior trim panels) from each door that was hanging down and scratching my rocker panel, and said "we dont know what these are for, so we just removed them", hmmm, maybe it was to help with moiture related issues within the door panel. Not sure just guessing, but cant bellive that they couldn't figure it out. Over all not impressed with Chevrolet even though it is pretty much all I have owned, if they keep producing this crap they should lower the price.

3 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2001 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 03/06/2013

I was driving down a state road when I needed to stop for an intersection stop sign; my brake pedal went almost to the floor. The braking power was reduced to such a degree that I passed through the intersection just being missed by another vehicle traveling on the other roadway that did not have to stop. The brake fluid reservoir was empty in the front section and only small amount in the rear section. I drove the vehicle the rest of the way at 15 mph because the braking ability was so diminished it would not stop fast enough at a higher speed. My front bumper guard was dented and bent when it impacted a car stop bollard at a stop on the way home. I could not call a wrecker because I had no signal on my cell phone and I could not walk for help because I am disabled and can only walk very short distances (I have a state issued handicap placard). Upon examination a rusted through brake line was found to be the cause. The other brake lines are in the same rusted condition. I sure hope dot will make gm correct this problem before some children are hurt or killed.

4 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2002 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 06/20/2012

I was driving 60mph when construction cones brought traffic to one lane. As I began to apply my brakes, I could feel my foot going to the floor and I was not slowing at all. I tried the emergncy brake, and also no braking occured. I managed to drive onto the medium, and luckily was able to avoid all the "construction junk" that littered that area. After a very long time, I was able to safely maneuver to a safe stop. When I spoke with the mechanic, he told me there were no brake lines.

5 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 1999 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

Brake line burst and rendered my truck brakeless. Someone is going to get hurt because of the faulty rust prone brakelines they put on these trucks. I was lucky that it happened when I was stopped.

6 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2000 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 04/04/2012

When I turn left into a parking spot the abs system goes on (even on dry surfaces where there is no slipping) and the vehicle doesn't stop as quickly as it should. This has happened many times.
