I would like to notify someone that the recall the Chevrolet has out # 04007 may apply to other VIN numbers. My vehicle did not fall into the VIN break , however, the same defect has occurred. Corrosion under the jacket and the cable breaks in two pieces. The last eight of my VIN y1102238.

2 Tailgate Hinge problem of the 2000 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 01/10/2005

Tailgate cable corroded and broke. Consumer stated that vehicle was not included in the recall. The consumer also replaced the cable that hadn't borken yet.

3 Tailgate Hinge problem of the 1998 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 11/15/2004

1998 Chevrolet tailgate strap broke.

4 Tailgate Hinge problem of the 1999 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 10/25/2004

The tailgate cables are rusting and breaking in half. This year/make and model is not being recalled by the manufacturer. However, the tailgate on this vehicle is made exactly as those which are being recalled.

5 Tailgate Hinge problem of the 2000 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 09/24/2004

Tailgate fell off while pulling onto the highway. Tailgate was being dragged without consumer's knowledge. Recall 04v129000 was received for the defect.

6 Tailgate Hinge problem of the 2001 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 06/14/2003

The tailgate to my 2001 chevy silverado fell off while driving @ approx 50 mph vehicle behind me went off road to avoid possible collision during summer 2003, I was told I didn't close it right. Yesterday 2/24/03 noticed on line the u folks were investigating such incidents.
