Nine problems related to brake electric antilock have been reported for the 1996 Chevrolet Astro. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Loss of braking due to defective rotors deteriorating from within. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that vehicle was not covered under a recall or warranty. Consumer stated that the dealer admitted that this was a common problem with metallic brake linings, the steel peels away from the rotors.
Random failure of power booster on braking system. Complete loss of brakes.
The failure of anti-lock brakes to work properly (wheels lock up), has caused me to slide into an intersection and almost get broadsided, and it has caused me to nearly slide into a truck in a parking lot. The front rotors have had to be turned 7 times - 6 in the last 13 months. The brakes will pulsate because the rotors warp about every 2 months.
Brakes intermittently pull to the right.
When driving the truck and having to make a panic stop, applying foot to the brake pedal, the pedal goes to the floor. Has to pump the brake pedal several times before the truck will stop.
While driving steering and brakes go out at same time. Dealer has been contacted.
Intermittently when brakes are applied pedal goes to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance. Dealer has been notified.
When applying brakes at low speeds steering wheel locks up.
When braking the vehicle bears to the right, the problem gets worst in wet weather at high speed(40-50mph) and when the abs is in use. Please describe details.
