2 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2007

2001 chevy Astro -- does not stop when brakes are applied. Just keeps "sliding". Only way to fix is to remove the fuse for the abs brakes. If fuse is in, when brakes are applied, the vehicle shutters and growls and just continues to slide and the vehicle does not stop. This happens when you are traveling at slow speeds such as coming to a stop or pulling into parking spaces. ---very dangerous--thank god husband is a mechanic and realized that taking the fuse out would stop this problem, but causes it so that there is no abs.

3 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2005

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Astro van. The contact stated that there was unwanted activation of the abs system. When the contact applied the brakes at low speeds the abs activated and did not stop the vehicle. This resulted in extended stopping distance. The vehicle was at a dealership, and they could not find the cause of the problem. The dealership could feel the problem, but did not know how to remedy it. The dealership road tested the vehicle and duplicated the problem and the fault would have to be more consistent to offer repairs. The consumer spoke with a mechanic, and he stated that recall 05v379000 was issued for a 2001 Chevrolet suburban regarding the abs. The contact stated that this vehicle was experiencing the same symptoms as indicated in the recall. The manufacturer confirm ed that this type of vehicle was not included in the recall. Updated 01/04/06.

4 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2005

At about 52,000 miles my 2001 Chevrolet Astro began having abs problems. Abs would activate at very slow speeds. Almost involved in several minor crashes due to car not stopping while entering a parking space or in rush hour traffic are pulling up to intersections. Abs kicks in and instead of vehicle stopping it keeps pulsing the brakes as if I were traveling faster. Have not had problem examined by Chevrolet dealer at this point. I noticed that Chevrolet is planning a recall for some of its trucks and SUV's for the identical problem I am experiencing however my model is not currently being considered for the recall.

5 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2004

While driving on dry pavement anti-lock brakes engaged. As a result, vehicle collided into a house. No report of air bag deployment.

6 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2002

Brakes have had intermittent problems since new. Returned first time when left front locked up on dry, smooth pavement panic stop. Jerked wheel from hand and turned van sideways. This is after slight intermittent pulling from time van was new. Numerous trips (5) to dealer has failed to fix problem. Now additional problem of no braking action while attempting slow stop has resulted in running into intersection with oncoming traffic. This occurred while trying to stop from approximately 15mph. Applying the brakes resulted in no slow down for a short amount of time. It finally stopped with the front bumper in the intersection as I attempted to apply the parking brake to stop. Gm's service has said that until it occurrs while it is in the shop, there is nothing else they will do. They did say they hoped I didn't have an accident because of their brakes.

7 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2001

Under panic stop, the brake goes to the floor and the van will not stop. The failed to stop about 7 feet. (dot number: pjhf tiresize: p215-75r15).
