1 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2017

Abs pump or speed sensor are damaged and not working on this truck. When my vehicle was turned off the abs pump kept running causing me to pull the fuse for the abs. Chevrolet is aware of this problem as I have been calling them trying to have them include my truck in the abs/speed sensor recall which is on other trucks like mine. Chevrolet continues only to recall these trucks which were manufactured in the "salt states" only. . Read more...

2 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2015

When traveling at low speeds, >5mph, the abs activates and vehicle continues on to the point of entering traffic. This occurs frequently and without warning, at stop signs and even just pulling out of private driveway into traffic. My local mechanic ran a diagnostic test and indicated that a front speed sensor was at fault. After investigating numerous sites, I found that there was a recall issued for the exact problem on the '02 Avalanche as well as other similar chassis trucks from '99-'02. And these were included in a recall of over 1,353,700 trucks under the NHTSA campaign # 05v379000. The report stated to contact gm and request authorization for the recommended repair. When I did that, the representative stated that there were no open recalls according to the VIN. How does gm determine which VIN is affected? is the NHTSA monitoring gm's selection process? I've own the vehicle since 6/05, and the above recall was initiated 9/05, but I've never received any type of notice that my vehicle may or may not be affected and to bring it to a gm dealer for inspection. I've had one hub assembly replaced years ago at my own expense, (I was told I had a bad bearing but they had the replacement part only came assembled as the bearing, hub and sensor). The designer must also have been the supplier. It's good that there is the NHTSA to try and keep these manufacturers accountable for the safety of the cars they produce, but with more automation in the industry to cut costs, you now have 1 worker overseeing what it took 10 to do. More and more mistakes are bound to happen. Our safety is worth more then their corporate jets and lavish lifestyles.

3 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2009

2002 Avalanche 1500, abs would activate when coming to a slow stop. Dealer said it was probably the speed sensors, recall was already done so they wouldn't do it again. That is not right! I don't care how many times they have to fix it, if safety parts are failing, they need to replace them! long story short. . . I replaced the sensors, didn't work. I replaced the whole bearing/hub assembly which came with pre-installed sensors. Fixed!.

4 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2007

2002 chevy Avalanche 1500 4x4 z71 corrosion in the front wheel bearing hub contaminated the tone ring on the speed sensor causing the brakes not to work correctly. Lock up or not work at all very dangerous situation. I replaced the hud and it cured the problem appears that the moisture causing the corrosion got thru at the speed sensor plug. I see canada already has a recall on this why is the us taking so long to implement the recall. Does some one have to die for it to be an important safety issue.

I am entering this in regards to your investigation pe05020. This is on an incorrect activation of the anti-lock brake system in chevy trucks 99-2002. I believe my vehicle has this defect and it may have contributed to two accidents. The defect is in the anti lock brake speed sensor and occurs due to corrosion. My family has a snow removal business so I frequently use the truck in bad weather. . Also I lived across the street from the ocean for a year so the truck was frequently exposed to salt spray. I would be happy to let you examine the truck if you would like. I have not gone to chevy to request repair yet. . Awaiting advice from my insurance company.
