The failure mileage was unknown.

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2021

I went to stop my 2002 chevy Avalanche 1500 and the pedal started to pulsate like my brake assist was gone as I nearly rear end a vehicle and had to swerve out of the way do to the brakes not wanting to stop the vehicle as there supposed to normally. The truck has a p0265 code which is a fault in the ecbm do to the solder joint on the relay in the board. I'm a mechanic for a living and I cant believe this recall still hasn't been addressed a long time ago! this needs to be looked into ASAP and its not just the 2002 Avalanche. All these vehicle's listed have this issues but instead of recalling the ebcm for the solder issues they decide to recall it for corrosion on the wheel speed sensors big mistake that still to this day needs to be addressed. 2002-2006 Cadillac escalade, ext & esv 1999-2007 Chevrolet silverado 2000-2006 Chevrolet suburban, tahoe 2002-2006 Chevrolet Avalanche 2002-2007 Chevrolet trailblazer & ext 2003-2006 chevolet ssr 1999-2007 GMC sierra 2000-2006 GMC yukon / denali / xl 2002-2007 GMC envoy / xl 2004-2005 GMC envoy xuv.

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2021

Stopping, from between 5 and 10 mph, after a small drive - like a few yards. . The anti-lock brake engaged, made a pulsing / ratcheting noise and the brake pedal vibrated -- but the truck did not stop. I could not press down on the pedal any harder, and the truck took substantial distance to come to a stop. --dry road. -- I also have an abs light on the dash from time to time.

At low speeds the anti lock brakes engage on dry pavement. . This greatly increases stopping distance.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2014

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and the abs engaged without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. There was a recall related to the failure under NHTSA campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and the contact's VIN was included in the recall however, the contact's state was not mentioned as one of the salt belt states that were eligible for repairs under the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2013

Sitting at red light all of a sudden brakes seemed to let go car started to roll back a bit had to push brake pedal to the floor.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2013

A guy pulled out in front of me and I almost t boned him if he didn't get out of the way, since I didn't get it stopped for another 40 yards past were the accident would have happened. After further inspection the break line exploded causing loss of break peddle pressure. All of the break lines, especially in the back, are rotted and scaling, and rotor splash guards have rotted away completely. I'm sure gm will point to mileage as a excuse, but there really isn't any rust on or under the except on the break lines and my none existent splash guards. I drive 600 high way miles a week and expect normal pad/rotor/bearing wear and tear but this is clearly a faulty part.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2013

When applying the brake to shift from park the brake pedal goes to the floor. This happened in July and November 2013, and again about two weeks ago.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2013

Driving on the highway at 50 mph applied brakes to stop at traffic light and pedal went to the floor. I had no brakes, pulled over to the side of the road and after examination saw brake fluid under truck.

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

It's common knowledge that gm light trucks emergency brakes do not hold, even on brand-new vehicles, encompassing many year and model numbers. Do a google search. Gm has issued several bulletins but no recalls. What gives and how many injuries/deaths have to occur for your department to act????.

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2013

I had an accident on the hwy in georgia, the steering was hard to control/lock, the tire sled, was rust and corrode on structure, brake area, wheel area, frame, tire broke off, almost flipped and was hit from the back, and twice in the front after slamming into a cement divider and the air bags didn't deploy at all, I injured my left side, neck, back, and hip. Blessed that my pregnant daughter in her 8th month wasn't in the truck with me. I had done multiple repairs on the fuel tank, tire rod, knock sensor, abs brakes, running board, brakes, rotors, etc, and was told that the rust on the frame won't effect the trucks performance and it was safe to drive because everything is attached to the frame good. I almost lost my life and two of us got injured. If these trucks are having and been having these issues- why do they just pull all of them and give people other options.

13 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

The first time this happened I was going home from work on the freeway. I was going 65 mph and my engine died I had no power steering and the brake pedal was very hard to push. I was able to put my truck in neutral and restart it. The second time the engine died I was sitting at a red light and it shut off. The third time it happened I was going home from work, just got off the freeway and stopped at the red light. When the light turned green I made a left and was going to the next light to make a right and the engine died. I tried to put the brakes on, but they were very tight and I had no power steering. I had to fight to turn the wheel and just made the turn without hitting the other traffic.

14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2012

Pulling out of driveway and brakes completely went out. Luckily I was only going around 5 mph. Was able to use emergency brake to slow truck down next to the curb.

15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2012

See above, break line broke during a sudden stop and I found out all the lines were bad.

16 Service Brakes problem

1. First incident: 10/14/12. Catastrophic brakeline rupture due to corrosion near rear left tire resulting in complete loss of brakes 2. Second incident: 10/19/13. Catastrophic brakeline rupture due to corrosion on side of frame near driver side door resulting in complete loss of brakes.

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2012

Was going to dinner and when we were coming up to the entrance, I hit the brakes and they went to the floor. Luckily I was able to get stopped in time and no one was in the way. The 2nd time was coming back from the outer banks. I haven't seen a truck rust out so bad before in my life.

18 Service Brakes problem

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 150,000.

19 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2012

Attempted to stop at a stop sign. The brakes were working until I had slowed to about 5 mph. Then the brake pedal went to the floor. The car in front of me had already started moving forward so no accident occurred.

20 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2011

Recently my 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche has begun to shut off while driving which causes the vehicle to lose power. Another important safety issue, the brakes began to press all the way to the floor while braking. On August 3, 2011 while my son was driving the vehicle approaching a stop light, he pressed the brakes which went to the floor and rear ended vehicle in front that was making a turn. The front bumper is now damaged ( t-boned) and the air bags did not deploy. I'm not very pleased that I never received any notices about the braking system. I can't afford to make monthly payments and still have to pay costly maintenance fees. I can not afford to jeopardize my life and my family, especially my granddaughter. Something has to be done about these safety issues: braking, cutting off while driving and no deployed air bags.

21 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2011

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed the brakes engaged, unexpectedly, and she began to hear a loud humming noise. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where the contact was informed that the anti lock braking system was engaging involuntarily. An authorized dealer was notified and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 155,000.

22 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2011

Brake pedal suddenly went to the floor. Resulted in crashing into car stopped ahead.

23 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2010

According to my local gm dealer's service manager my problem with my Chevrolet Avalanche break lines rusting through and causing break failure is due to the fact that gm built these vehicles with a material that is not resistant to corrosion. Hundreds of complaints can be found on the internet regarding this problem, but thus far no recall has been made. For a few extra dollars vehicle manufacturers should be required to make this (break lines) from a rust resistant material. Gm will probably do everything it can to avoid recalls but believe me it's not an isolated problem. . . It's accidents waiting to happen!.

24 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2010

The abs kick in while turning at low speed.

25 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/21/2010

I am currently having a problem with my 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche as to unwarranted abs activation. The vehicle is unable to stop a low speeds or hesitates at 5 mph coming to a stop. I began to have this problem about a week ago, on or about April 14th, 2010. I conducted a search of your web site and saw that there has been previous complaints from 2005. I contacted Chevrolet at the number provided in your recall bulletin # 05v-379. When I spoke to a customer service representative they told me my VIN # did not qualify for the recall. Chevrolet will not honor any repair to this vehicle which I believe clearly falls within the make/model/year. I plan to have the repairs made, and file suit against Chevrolet for the cost of those repairs.

26 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2010

Nhtsa action # pe05020, NHTSA recall # 05v379000, gm corp, service brakes, hydraulic, antilock. This problem persists in my 2002 chevy Avalanche. The recall only temporarily fixed problem. I am requesting NHTSA extend recall to repair ongoing problem. This problem may cause loss of life. I have notified gm and expect a follow up by NHTSA.

27 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

Tl - the contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact stated while driving, the abs lamp illuminated. When he tried to engage the brakes the vehicle did not stop in time, as a result he rear ended another vehicle. A police report was filed and no injuries were reported. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the abs module was defective and needed to be replaced. He took the vehicle to a dealer who confirmed the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in recall NHTSA campaign id number: 05v379000 ( service brakes, hydraulic:anti lock). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 114,000. Rvk.

28 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2009

Abs brake system malfunctioning --- when slowing down to stop, at about 5mph, brake pedal becomes soft and vehicle pulls to the right. Recall TSB#02-05-25-006b does not include this vehicle but this is the same problem. Local gm service dept refuses to repair this unsafe design defect.

29 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2009

2002 Chevrolet k1500 Avalanche 4wd activates antilock brakes while completing a stop at low speeds (less than 5mph). This malfunction occurs every time the vehicle is driven, often every time the vehicle comes to a complete stop. The activation of the abs system has the undesired effect of greatly lengthening the stopping distance in an uncontrolled manner. In effect, the vehicle is not under control when approaching a stopped vehicle in traffic, intersection, pedestrian, parking, etc. This is a very hazardous malfunction of the abs system. This particular truck was recalled and repair was attempted by a Chevrolet dealership a few years ago. This previous dealership repair of the uncontrolled abs braking was not sufficient as the abs malfunction has returned on this vehicle. On 4/1/09 the Chevrolet dealership has refused to repair my current abs malfunction condition, stating that "gm will only do the repair once". The dealership repair did not work on my 2002 Avalanche, and now I am "stuck" with a vehicle that is a safety hazard on the roads due to uncontrolled releasing of brake pressure at low speeds. Please give me direction of what action I can take. Thank you.

30 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2009

Anti-lock brake system stays on and took to a repair shop. They advised us that there was a recall on it. Then we took it to the Chevrolet dealership and they told us there was no recall. Did some research on the internet and found that there was indeed a recall. Chevrolet dealership not cooperating.

31 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2006

Gm had repaired the rust brake defects on my type of vehicle in many salt states that endure cold weather. But because there was not enough outrage they did not repair this same defect in my state. There is a problem with the wheel bearings where rust causes the anti lock braking system to needless engage when it should not during slow speeds sometimes making braking dangerous in slow turning and parking situations. I have already spent thousands of dollars fixing these defects on my own but because of a faulty design in the system this problem has a tendency to re occur.

32 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2004

Emergency/parking brake parts worn out prematurely. Park brake hardly ever used but the vehicle failed state inspection due to inability to stop vehicle. Iwas told by several mechanics and owner's of similar vehicles that this is a design flaw and should be subject to recall.

33 Service Brakes problem
