4 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2014

While leaving a funeral in near sweetwater TN, I applied the brakes and felt pressure and then the pedal dropped to the floor. My wife and two small children were riding with me. After pushing the brake pedal to the floor, I noticed I did have brakes but not power brakes. I pulled over and examined the problem and found leaking brake fluid coming from around the gas tank. With no choice, I had to drive the truck back to kentucky. Appr. 175 miles if not more in heavy traffic on I-75. I know trucks have problems and I know there is routine maintenance but I have never seen the amount of complaints that the brake lines have had on these trucks. I have owned chevy trucks my whole life and have never had a problem with the brake lines. Due to the seriousness of the issue and number of complaints, how is Chevrolet issuing a recall.

5 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2014

Driver's side front to back brake line corroded and leaked all brake fluid causing an inability to stop. The brake indicator light did not come on until all fluid was gone and normal braking ability was loss. Upon further inspection all brake lines are severely corroded.

6 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2014

I was driving on i95 traveling at a speed of 60 mph when I tried to apply the brakes and the brake pedal went completely to the floor. I had absolutely no brakes. Lights on the dash board stated service brakes. Luckily there were not any cars directly in front of me. I was able to drift onto the side of the highway and waited for my vehicle to come to a stop. After coming to a stop, I noticed a large puddle of fluid under the driver side door. My brake line had ruptured. Evidently this is known problem with gm trucks and is a great safety hazard. I was very fortunate that my entire family was not in the car like the previous weekend. I took my vehicle to my mechanic and he informed me that all 4 brake lines were corroded. This should never happen on a part that is essential to stopping your vehicle. Gm claims that you still have brakes when this happens. That is totally not true. I had absolutely no brakes. Gm needs to take responsibility for this problem.

7 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2014

While driving my truck in a curve I notice the vehicle was not responsive as I applied the brakes. The brake pedal went straight to the floor. I regained control of my vehicle I place the vehicle in the n drive attempting to let the vehicle coast to a stop. I did a maintenance check for low brake fluid, I found that the level was good. That's when I was informed that my brake line had broken. When the brake pedal was applied brake fluid was shooting out from the brake line. This was the third time that this has happen to me that my life and others has been endangered. The first incidence was a few years ago I went through a red light because I could not stop the vehicle, the second time was November 2013 and now this time. Although I purchased the vehicle used in 2006 with only 47,000 miles on it for this to occur three times is to often. I now have 150000 miles on my vehicle and cannot afford a new car or new car payment. Please look into to so that I and other lives will not be further endangered. Recall and do something about these brake lines breaking so that we are safe.

8 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2014

Corroded steel brake line developed a hole and leak of brake fluid. This led to inability to brake adequately to stop. All 4 brake lines need replaced due to severe corrosion. There appears to be a large number of complaints about these and similar gm vehicles experiencing brake line failures.

The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic, who found that the brake lines were corroded and leaking brake fluid. The brake lines were replaced. The failure and current mileage was 59,353.

10 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche. While driving at an unknown speed, the brake pedal extended to the floor when it was depressed. The contact discovered that the brake lines near the driver side door were rusted and corroded, and brake fluid had leaked from the vehicle. The contact indicated that the brake lines had been previously replaced on the vehicle due to rusting and corrosion. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 150,000.

11 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2013

Started driving and the brake pedal suddenly went all the way down to the floor. The vehicle eventually stopped and a warning light finally turned on to "service brake system". I got out of the vehicle to check and see if the brake fluid was low and saw that the brake lines were rusted. Underneath the vehicle, I was able to see brake fluid leaking at a consistent rate. Prior from this happening, there were no warning lights or alerts.

12 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

I was backing out of a parking space and as I went to stop the brake pedal went soft as soon as the brake pedal was depressed, going to the very nearly to the floor. (normally the pedal stays several inches further above the floor. ) the service brakes light came on along with the truck's warning chimes. I got out of the truck and saw large amounts of brake fluid dripping off the undercarriage near the left side rear tire. About 1 to 1. 5 hours earlier, when I was parking the truck, the brakes operated normally. A Chevrolet dealer had to remove and replace that brake line. Approximately 3 months prior to this incident the Chevrolet dealer who normally services the truck alerted to me to extensive rusting of all of the truck's brake lines. They did not think there as immediate danger of a brake line failure, but strongly recommended that all brake lines be replaced prior to the oncoming winter where corrosion might become accelerated.

13 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2012

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500. The contact was driving 5 mph when the brakes were depressed to the floorboard and the vehicle failed to stop properly. The contact mentioned that after inspecting the vehicle he noticed that there was brake fluid leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 190,000.

14 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2011

Rotting brake lines in the vehicle listed above, noticed brake fluid leaking from lines. Corrosion so bad requires all lines to be replaced. Dealer also damaged brake controller during repair and charged me the replacement cost.

15 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2011

I was driving down hwy 316 and began approaching a red light. When I attempted to begin stopping for the red light, my brake pedal went all the way to the floor and the brakes didn't seem to be working. Luckily I was able to safely pull off the right side of the road and was able to avoid hitting any other vehicles or objects. I then pulled into an empty parking lot about 50 feet away. When I got out of my vehicle and starting looking around I could see fluid dripping on the ground next to the driver side front wheel. I then was able to find that the fluid was brake fluid and it was coming from a pinhole sized leak in the stainless steel brake line coming from the master cylinder and going to the abs system. After closer inspection I have discovered that all my steel brake lines are severely rusted. There were no warning signs, lights, bongs, or beeps until after my brakes failed. My brakes would barely work, the pedal would go to the floor and I would only be able to slow my vehicle down enough to shift into neutral and then shift into park to completely stop. I consider myself and my family extremely fortunate that we were able to avoid a crash and were not harmed or didn't harm anyone else. After this occurred I starting doing research on the internet and discovered that this has become a major issue with Chevrolet vehicles in the salt bed states. I live in georgia, but my chevy Avalanche is from a salt bed state and was only recently brought to GA.
