82 problems related to carrier/rack have been reported for the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While cleaning the windshield I noticed what appeared to be a crack over the instrument cluster. I opened the door and looked at the dash closer and confirmed it was cracked. Later that week I noticed the dash had cracked at the passenger airbag. The crack over the instrument cluster starts at the front edge of the dash and runs about half way back. The crack at the passenger airbag starts at the front seam and runs into the airbag opening. I started research to see if there was a recall and found numerous complaints about this problem. I also found that at this time gm refuses to do anything about it. With the amount of complaints in various areas around the u. S. It doesn't appear to be weather related. There is even a facebook page dedicated to this issue. . Read more...
Multiple cracks in the dashboard. This truck has be garaged 90% of the time when not in use.
Vehicle has been and is driven under normal conditions and is accident free. Cracks to dash above instrument panel and by passenger airbag. It's an obvious manufacture defect, other gm owners are filing complaints with the same issue. My concern is the crack may inflict unnecessary injury or further injury to the passager in the event the airbag deploys. I'm hoping those responsible for insuring this defect does not cause harm to a passage takes a proactive stance and investigates this issue. Thanks - don mathis.
My dash cracked and continues to crack around air bags.
I have cracks in my dash right around the airbag cover. 2 of them around an inch long and expanding as time goes on. I worry about if a airbag deploys that it may cause plastic to break off and fly into someones face, not allow a bag to deploy correctly or cut an airbag as it deploys. From things I've found using google this is a very common issue that gm will not admit to or fix. They even went as far as to change the dash part(reinforced plastic in the problem areas) and the part number. It's my understanding that this part still does this. But seems to take longer to appear.
There have been continual problems with the engine of my truck and I have found out since buying it there are severe problems with a lot of the engines of the 2007 Avalanche. The mechanic told me when we brought the truck in to find out why the engine had a hesitation in it, that we should hope it was the exhaust system seals needing to be replaced that caused the hesitation because the only other times he had seen this problem it was a manufacturing defect in the 2007 GMC engines that he had seen these problems with alot of the 2007 chevy and GMC trucks including his own. We also about 2 months after buying the truck noticed that the truck was going through oil very quickly but the mechanic said that the seals weren't leaking so didn't know why we were burning oil so fast. The dash has cracked at the corner of the air bag and if there is an accident it could send shards flying. The drivers door sticks and the stability control go's in and out of working order. The electric mirrors stopped folding in and tilting down and tried to have it fixed but Chevrolet said they wouldn't give the mechanic the code to get into the computer system to fix it and the back up sensor that had stopped working also. We now have to go to a Chevrolet dealership to have it fixed. There have been so many problems with these trucks that Chevrolet hasn't fixed these trucks even used usually cost at least $15000 brand new you could double or triple that price I don't think it's a lot to ask to have a decent engine the other problems I could deal with but the engine problem they should fix.
Multiple cracks on dash area, specifically around passenger side airbag.
Dash board has cracked around the passengers air bag and general motors has failed to acknowledge this as a safety concern and issue a recall. I'm writing this on behalf of all 2007-20013 gm truck owners who have experienced this same problem and gm has failed to offer any assistant in making repairs once warranty has expired. I say this because it's happen on my own account and thousands other in reading the forums on the web. My main concern is that the air bag is not properly seated in the dash once the cracks occur around it and could have a major effect to it properly deploying. Furthermore if it did happen to deploy it would have the potential of the weakened dash to explode and send sharp particles of plastic throughout the cabin possibly causing further injuries. I would appreciate it if you could look into this as a serious concern on behalf of all gm truck owners.
Dash cracked by air bag had been previously replaced at dealership 1 dash maybe a defect but 2 dash is definetly an issue.
There is a crack in dash at site of passenger airbag and a crack on dash above instrument cluster panel. Never had an accident or damage to vehicle. We are the original owners. We are concerned that the passenger airbag could be compromised and deploy without incident. Don't know how long it has been there but noticed it in June. With all the airbag recalls, we feel this could be one also as we have found other Chevrolet owners with the same issue.
I noticed that my dash had 2 cracks, one on the driver side and one around the airbag on the passenger side. I believe the one around the air bag to be a safety concern, either the functionality of the airbag or the broken pieces of plastic if the airbag is deployed.
A big crack appeared on my 2007 chevy Avalanche dashboard just above the cluster (passengers side). A second crash appeared just mext to the passenger air bag cover, which is a potential safety issue. . I wouldn't like to see plastic parts on my passengers eyes if an accident occurs.
Dashboard cracks thoughtout the dashborad, first appeared by the air bag then more appeared over the instarment cluster then the defroster vent panel, sections are completly breaking away.
Dash cover is cracking around passenger airbag and above instrument cluster. Cracks started to appear around 50,000 miles. Current mileage is 50,692.
The dash board cracks on these vehicles in warm climates causing excessive heat into the electronics of the dash.
Dash cracked around passenger side airbag. If airbag is deployed it can possibly snag on the sharp edge and puncture the airbag.
Dashboard crack. On both sides of the the defrost, leading back to air bag cut out and to hood for main instrument panel.
Cracked dash above the passenger air bag on my 2009 GMC sierra and my 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche. Could cause a safety hazard if the airbag was deployed and is not aesthetically pleasing considering the money spent on the vehicle.
My chevy Avalanche has a known issue of the dash cracking which gm denies. Like many other tahoe, silverado, and Avalanche owners I have a cracked dash right in the corner of the passenger side air bag and another over the drivers steering column. The dash flaps freely and I'm worried if the air bag goes off that sharp shrapnel will fly in the face of the driver and passenger. There are tons of owners all over with identical issues.
Driving on a normal paved road I heard two fairly loud "pop" sounds. Stopped and pulled over to see if I could find source of the sounds. Nothing had fallen, no windows broken, but noticed 2 cracks on upper dashboard where the passenger airbag resides. Pressed on that area and was able to see the dash had completely cracked apart and was "flopping". Proceeded to drive and in next mile another "pop" sound occurred, this time it was an even larger crack on the left side of the dash near the instrument panel, and the entire top portion of the dash drivers side to passenger side was now bouncing up and down by about 1-2inches. I fear if the drivers a-pillar side airbag or the passanger main airbag are deployed, that fragments and large pieces of the hard dash plastic can be thrown at high-speed to people in the cabin. . . This is not acceptable as a safety concern. I attempted a resolution thru gm, who wanted almost $1000 to do the repair, even though the acknowledge its a common problem, they do not seem willing to come to a common resolution. . Read more...
I have an 07 chevy Avalanche that has a cracked dash around the airbag area. A web search will reveal that this is a common problem across gm vehicles. In my mind this problem renders the vehicle unsafe because the crack has jeopardized the integrity of the dashboard. Gm needs to recall and fix the dashboards free of charge.
Dash is cracking in multiple places. This would be a hazard if a accident was to happen and the air bags deploy plastic shards would be shot towards any occupants in the vehicle. Also due to the poor construction of the product pieces of the dash are not locked into place like designed because of the dash cracking in spots that are designed for trim pieces to clip in.
The dash has cracked in multiple places including at the airbag. This is a known problem by gm and all tahoes, Avalanches, suburbans, and sierra pick up trucks have the same problem. The service manager at my dealership admitted gm had a problem with the vendor supplying this dash. I consider it a safety issue because it is at the air bag, and also over the instrument panel and electronics.
Early in September 2012, I noticed a small 1 inch crack in the dashboard of my truck, a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche ltz. This crack was located on the driver's side of the dashboard, to the left of the instrument cluster and near the windshield. Over the next few weeks the crack got larger, about 4 inches long approximately. I called a gm service line and the first dealer they connected me with said since I wasn't the original owner and the truck was out of warranty, they could not replace it unless I paid the full cost, which at the time was about $1800. I called gm again and the next dealer told me that they would replace it but I would have to pay $350. So on October 5, 2012, I brought my truck in to all star Chevrolet in baton rouge, la. They replaced my dash and sent me on my way. I was a satisfied customer until October 31, 2014. I noticed that my dashboard was cracked again in the exact same place. When I called gm again to tell them what happened, I was told that I would have to pay $350 again in order to get a new dash. I have yet to get it fixed again because I refuse to pay for a repeating issue that shouldn't have happened in the first place.
Not sure of the exact date my husband noticed the dashboard was cracked in two places on our Avalanche. It is my understanding that this is a common problem with the Avalanche and similar gm vehicles and nothing is being done about it. All the owners of these vehicles would like something to be done about the dashboard. It is a factory defect and should be taken care of by gm with no expense incurred by the owners. I am sure there are many more owners who have not reported this issue.
Dash board around the instrument panel to the passenger side airbag is cracked. I don't know what caused it to start but it started as a small crack then it began to spread across the dash.
Dashboard cracked in multiple locations, without any major accident/no airbag deployment. I am concerned dash is so brittle any airbag deployment will cause the dashboard to separate into pieces and become shrapnel. I'm the original owner of the vehicle. The first crack started approximately in Nov 2011 and now has gotten worse over time.
Dashboard cracked in multiple locations, without any major accident/no airbag deployment. Currently, cracks have been reglued/epoxied. Concerned dash is so brittle any airbag deployment will cause the dashboard to separate into pieces and become shrapnel. I'm the original owner of the vehicle. The first crack started approximately in Nov 2011.
The dashboard is severely cracked above the steering column and passenger airbag panel. I am concerned for safety and see in online forums that this is a common problem.
Initially the dash board cracked in one corner on the passenger side, at the right upper corner of the inset for the passenger airbag. Now the dash board has split in the center and the left upper corner at the passenger side air bag. It seems if the passenger side air bag were to deploy the broken sections of the dash would become projectiles inflicting serious injury. I have notified the local chev dealer, vester chev, svc manager johnny davis, but they state it is a "normal" wear item! they refuse to address the issue. I have noticed in google searches and vehicles I look at the problem is widespread on gm tahoe and GMC yukons for several years of production. Please make this note a subject of concern.
There are several large cracks in my dashboard with sharp shards of plastic which have already broken off or are hanging off. These shards and sharp edges present a significant hazard to vehicle occupants if the vehicle were to be involved in a accident. These cracks seem to be related to shoddy craftsmanship/materials used by Chevrolet and have gotten worse over the years.
Cracks in the dash next to the air bag and in front of driver. If air bag is deployed will cause plastic dash to break apart with possible injury to person or puncture the air bag.
The dash is cracked in two places, one is right at the corner of the passenger air bag, the second is above the instrument panel. I was told this is happening in all gm trucks 2007-2013. Gm and the dealer will not fix. I am afraid that if the air bags deploy the dash will be shrapnel. And cosmetically it looks horrible and rattles. Gm needs to recall.
Dash cracking.
Dash cracked in approximately 2010. Dealership offered to repair it for $350. I did not have it repaired. Now it is cracked extensively like thousands of others owner's vehicles. If the airbag inflates, or an accident we're to occur, small pieces of the dash are likely to become projectiles.
