2007 Chevrolet Avalanche. Consumer writes in regards to a cracked dashboard. The consumer stated the dashboard was replaced at 40,000 miles, and it has since cracked again.
Dash board cracked on top left corner next to airbag and above the instrument panel. This appears to be a very common problem with all 2007-2013 chevy Avalanches, tahoes, suburbans, silverados, and GMC yukons, sierras, and denalis.
My truck has developed 2 large cracks in the dash, one over the instrument cluster and the other surrounding the passenger airbag. The cracks developed around 30,000 miles. The truck has been garage kept, and now with 55,000 miles the cracks are getting bigger and much worse. The major concern is the crack around the passenger airbag. With the dash being this brittle and weak, we are afraid of what may happen in an accident where the front airbags deploy. The dash appears that it may shatter into pieces or at least come apart and potentially allow shards of plastic to be thrown around in an accident. This issue is effecting a large amount of these model vehicles, so there is an obvious defect in the design. A new design for the dash should be developed and then replaced in our vehicles to unsure our safety, and to address the cosmetic defects of a vehicle with a purchase price well over $50,000. The dealer says that gm is not going to help cover the cost, or offer a replacement part for free at least. All they said was they could replace it for $1,300. This is the 2nd big issue I have had with this vehicle, recently we had to have $2,500 in engine repairs done due to the faulty displacement on demand system is the these 5. 3l engines. Another common failure in these vehicles that gm is ignoring.

My dash has cracked in the same place as others have reported. The crack starts at the upper left corner of the air bag lid and continues up the dash to the vent opening. The air bag could possibly rip if it were to catch on the sharp edge that is exposed.
Cracked dash above passenger airbag. Potential safety issue when airbag is deployed.
My dashboard has cracked. It extends nearly half way across the entire dashboard.
Gm has a safety issue with dashboards cracking near where the airbag deploys on the passenger side of the vehicles. There is also cracking on the left side of the instrument pod. All cracks are in identical areas of these same model years and newer. I have 2 vehicles (2007 tahoe and 2007 Avalanche with same cracks and will file 2 complaints).
Dashboard crack on passenger side next to airbag.
The dashboard has multiple cracks in it. Two of the cracks go straight to passenger air bags. 1 is on the corner of drivers side dash and the last one is in the center of the dash.

My dash is cracked right at the top left of my passenger airbag. My dash is also cracked on the left side of the dash near steering column. The are hundreds of online forms with the same issues with the same vehicle all you have to do is type in Avalanche dash board cracks in a search engine. My big issue is I can not get any chevy dealer to tell me the crack will not affect the deployment of the airbag. This a big safety concern if I get in a accident.
Around the may 2012 timeframe I had to take my 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche in to a local dealership for service to the cracked dashboard near the passenger side air bag. The dealership agreed that this was a defective issue through out a number of other gm models. The dealership agreed to replace the dashboard at no charge. This week on 9 December 2013 I noticed another crack in the new dashboard. Just slightly over a year this has happened again but this time in a new location. This crack is on the drivers side near the front of the windshield near the VIN number plate to the base of the instrument cluster. This crack in the past two days is opening more and more everyday. On 10 December the crack has now formed a "v" shape and has split to towards the drivers door. I took the vehicle in today and the dealership, the same dealership that replaced the dashboard the first time, said no and that they could no longer help me and recommended to me that I just get a "cover" to not see it and bother me. I paid nearly $40,000 for the truck and keep very good care of it. I feel that these cracks are a safety concern that should be addressed and fixed. The dealerships around the country have acknowledged that this is an issue and they will no longer help. Other owners like me are having this issue and we need help to get our vehicles fixed. Please help all of us in getting this issue fixed as soon as possible.
Dash panel is cracking in numerous areas.
Cracked dashboard directly above airbag on passenger side on 2007 z71 Avalanche (original owner). This is apparently a manufactures defect and is apparently happening on numerous gm vehicles for this model year. Gm is unwilling to fix saying it is not a defect and is only cosmetic and will not fix.
The dash cracked on my Avalanche as I was sitting at a light right by the passenger airbag. This truck is very well taken care of, and it happened just outside of the 36,000 mile warranty. The dash is only cosmetic, but I am concerned about the stability of the airbag at this point, and if I get into a crash that the airbag will come loose or the dash break into many pieces. These cracks are an issue on Avalanches, tahoes, and suburbans, and there have been many complaints so far. Gm is not helping and considers this cosmetic only. There are very serious potential safety issues with the airbag.
