Chevrolet Avalanche owners have reported 45 problems related to electronic stability control (under the electronic stability control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 06/26/2020

Having intermittent start problems that seem to be caused by an electrical problem. The truck will not start or turn over while dash warnings indicate "parking asst off" and "traction stability off". Initially it was just these issues along with the non start but now 4 weeks and $588. 04 later includes the power locks going up and down by themselves and ac blowing hot air. Fortunately the vehicle was parked when I tried to start it. The chevy dealer said at first they thought it had been struck by lightning then claimed it was the onstar module which they wanted to replace at $699. I advised them I don't use onstar so they said they could disconnect it from the rest of the vehicle and that worked fror a few weeks. The truck drove beautifully but now is back at the dealership and they want to replace the onstar module again which clearly isn't the problem. I love the truck but can't afford several hundred dollars every few weeks on this. I need a real solution to this problem and I know that this is a known issue because I have researched this problem and found it to be a gm issue that is affecting many, many others beside myself and as far back as the 2006 models. If it goes back that far and with so many other people there has to be a solution. Please somebody help me find it!!!!.

2 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

Vehicle has 120,000 miles on it and has a random misfire, with traction control and stabiltrack warnings and a flashing check engine light. Engine has excessive oil consumption and runs rough. Installed new plugs and wires, no change. After reading up on these engines I found out that the afm / dod feature is a common failure for these engines. Gm should step up and help owners with some of the repair costs. This is going to be expensive.

3 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 02/13/2020

While in operation at 55 mph the engin power was reduced after three service appointments repair attempts. Reduced power mode is a condition inserted by the engine controls module as a result of the fly by wire connection. The result was a quick speed reduction to 20 mph as max speed. Dot requires 45 mph, unsafe!.

4 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 09/13/2019

My stability control and traction control keep turning off. I have taken it in and the mechanic says it is the steering angel sensor. They cannot fix it because the part is back ordered nation wide. He said it is used on lots of gm platforms. So now at various times I have no stability control or traction control and cannot get the truck fixed.

6 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 04/06/2019

I am very disasified with the way the issue has been handled. I drive a 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche ltz with 111,000 miles on it. I purchased this vehicle in 2005 with 38,000 miles. A year later during the summer time I began to have electrical issues (while in motion vehicle guages start spazzing out going up and down, radio cuts in and out, door locks cycle up and down and vehicle stalls, doesnt seem to accelerate and shift into second gear. I have been stranded in the middle lane of the freeway traveling 60 miles per hour when suddenly it begins to act up. This is a major safety issue with three children in the vehicle and multiple cars driving at the same speed as I try to get over to the shoulder to shut off my vehicle but seems stuck in neutral preventing me from quickly getting off the free way. At times I will cycle the ignition key off and all power cuts out. I hear a clicking noise and lights flicker back on, which is my cue to cycle the ignition key back on. Sometimes it works and others it doesn't. At time power doesn't come back for at least 5 minutes. This occurs sporadically during the spring and summer times. I have taken it to the dealership where they were unable to diagnose the problem, stating they couldnt duplicate the problem. They assumed the ignition switch so that was changed but problem continued. I contacted Chevrolet where they opened a case but it troubles me that they work on a case by case and stated they arent aware of multiple similar complaints. Vehicle was dropped off again where they still couldn't diagnose the problem but did research and found the cable may possibly be the reason so that is still pending. If this is so common and a major safety concerns on the highway why hasn't there been a recall for Chevrolet. I have attached a document sent from the dealership about the cables. Chevy needs to do something about the electrical.

7 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 03/04/2019

Stabilty light came on, loss of power, check engine light, rough shifting into 2 gear. It has been down for 2 years. And not fixed yet, chevy dealership does not know what tpo do. There needs tobe a recall on the flex fuel. We were going down I-20 when all this happened. There was nearly an accident.

8 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 01/04/2019

Stabilitrak and traction control warning messages frequently display and cause harsh shifting and reduced power. Vehicle may be stationary or driven.

9 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 11/27/2018

Driving at normal speed 55 mph then all of a sudden the stabilizer track and abs light kicked in causing the vechile to decrease in power nearly stopping almost resulting in crash and bodily harm to me example hitting the steering wheel due to sudden stopping.

10 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

In motion on city streets or highways several warning lights appear on the dash and just randomly turn on and turn off the stabiliser leg traction control time on their system check engine abs light and airbag light all the lights come on and go off whenever they want. The play is on macy mother the one connection that goes to gets extremely hot it don't wanna come on you have to move around and get it come on and goes off randomly as well.

11 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 07/29/2018

Stability control warning pops up on display, resulting in a severe power reduction. This causes the vehicle speed to drop from 70 mph to around 35mph instantly. This nearly resulted in a rear end collision, of course. This was only prevented by a very alert driver behind me. I read that this is a very common issue with gm vehicles yet nothing is being done by gm to provide a safety recall.

12 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 07/20/2018

We were driving down i20 when we were coming off the off ramp and the stabilization light came on and we got to the stop sign to turn right and as were take off it shifted really bad out into 2nd it jerked really bad and we had no power we made it home and now it turns over but will not start. 2007 avalance it has 50,000 miles. I have been talking to other people on car gurus and there are thousand on that sight having the same problem were having. And the sad thing is we dont have the money to have our truck towed into town and get it fixed. Becasue they tells us that they have so many people having the same problem. I feel like gm should do a recall or people should be able to do a group lawsuit toward gm for such a big deal like this is. And also our dashes are all cracked down the middle. Which on that sight there are alot having same issue.

13 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 06/15/2018

Stabilitrak and traction control lights keep coming on and check engine light. Loses power and stability while going uphill or accelerating. Gm service out of warranty. Looked at possible recalls none available. Noticed alot of issues regarding 5. 3 v8 from 2010 to 2013 gm models. Excessive oil consumption also. Do I just pay for a new engine or is anyone doing anything about this oversight by gm? thousands of complaints but no accountability.

14 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 05/02/2018

Service stabilitrac system indication comes on, with check engine light, and engine power reduced. Happens randomly, cannot find a "common cause" spent lots of money on pcm, bcm, memory seat module, battery cables, battery, brake light switch, etc. Etc. Dangerous condition when vehicle drops into power reduction mode.

15 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 04/10/2018

Driving down the road the truck engine will be running with no abnormal sounds, smells, leaks but will act as if not in gear. Rpm's will rev but truck will not move. Only after putting truck in park (lots of grinding noises) then pressing the 4wheel button then back to 2wheel (sometimes through two cycles) the truck will back into gear and operate properly. Took it to a transmission shop put it on the diagnostic machine and no error codes were given to give reason why the transfer case disengages randomly. Replaced the transfer switch per shop recommendation "just in case"it was okay for about a month then once again issues started again just the same as before.

16 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

1. Vehicle stabilitrak light comes on, all the dash board lights goes on and off, the needles are going wild and then nothing. The vehicle still drives normal. 2. The clock will not keep regular time even when reset many times. 3. The drives side rear speaker will not come on. 4. When using cruise control the vehicle accelerated quickly causing me to think it was out of control, this happen once.

17 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 02/27/2018

New battery new alternator however the vehicle is not communicating correctly to have the alternator charge the battery. Result is "battery not charging. " this during any operation of the vehicle. Battery will die.

18 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

Stabilitrak and reduced engine power comes on at rates of sometimes 3-4 times per day. No common denominator I. E. Weather, road conditions, time of year. . Can be driving down interstate at 70 mph or sitting idle in park. This is very dangerous when driving loved ones around. Unfortunately I've gone as far as having a diagnostic computer hooked up at all times so I can clear the computer every time it happens in order to drive again. I've had the throttle body cleaned, changed. Computer changed and reset twice. . . Nothing has helped. This has been happening for years someone needs to address this before someone is severely injured or worse.

19 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 02/03/2017

Takata recall critical safety concern. Air bag light is on and it needed service cruise control malfunction, break sensor.

20 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 12/17/2016

I was driving to work 12/17/16, 5:40am. I was traveling to work and I lost all pressure in my pedal. Which led me to nearly hit a telephone pole. The master cylinder and a flex brake line going from the master cylinder to the brake booster(module) were replaced. But this did not fix the problem. I have bench bled the master cylinder, and all brake lines around the truck. I still have no brakes unless you push them to the floor. I have done some research, and found were other people with the same model and year truck have had the same problem. After reading all those blogs and post, I discovered that the model and year of Avalanche that I have was recalled for the abs system for failure.

Stabilitrac and traction control lights came on along with service both and the check engine light is on and sometimes flashes. Truck is idling very rough and seems to downshift hard from 2nd to 1st.

22 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 12/01/2016

Abs light on.

23 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 09/20/2016

My dashboard cracked for no reason. It's been kept out of the sun and high temperatures. Also back up sensors stopped working, I had them replaced by the dealer. But only lasted 6 months.

24 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 08/12/2016

My vehicle speed appears to be fluctuating, engine braking also occurs when the service stabilitrak lights come one. I was driving and it felt like it stalled or the clutch kicked in then reengaged. Online forums depict hundreds of owners with the same incidents. The issue affects many components of the vehicle. Some believe that the onstar system or the abs module is defective. This is a serious problem that must be investigated. When I took it in last time, the dealer claimed it was a faulty abs sensor. This did not solve the issue as this continues to happen off and on and I fell this puts us at risk. These issues happen while parked, driving, and turning, be it roadways, driveways, parking lots, etc.

25 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 07/13/2016

Engine runs rough at idle when engine light, service stabilitrak light and traction control off lights all come on. Upon acceleration, only engine light remains on. Will repeat at lower idle.

26 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 11/02/2015

Tl takata recall. The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500. The contact stated that there was a constant loss of speed and premature motor failure. The motor was replaced by an independent mechanic, but the electronic stability control (esc) warning indicator kept illuminating. The contact stated that the manufacturer issued four tsbs on the esc. The dealer (williams Chevrolet, 2600 us-31, traverse city, mi 49684, (231) 946-1111) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted to determine if the remedy and part were available for NHTSA campaign number: 16v383000 (air bags). The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

27 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 08/03/2015

The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche. While the vehicle idled, the stablilitrac and abs warning indicators flickered. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but they could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 93,778.

28 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 07/21/2015

Driving 35mph on dry road. 2wd jump out of gear acted like went into neutral I had no drive or any of my gears came to a complete stop with no warning. Went to put in park it grind with loud noise. Only way to get truck to move was to put in 4wd.

29 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 03/22/2015

Entered interstate 74 in indiana, got up to 65 mph and traction control light came on along with the check engine light. Had 30 miles to go to get to destination so kept driving and lights would go off after about 3 minute intervall and would come back on. This happened about 8 times during the trip. Finally the lights went off and did not come back on as of yet. My wife and I heard a clunking noise during this period of time. Very concerned that this may happen again when my wife is going to grocery store or any where by herself and get stranded somewhere. She is afraid to drive the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche now.

30 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 02/25/2015

2005 chevy Avalanche 1500 z66 (5. 3l flex fuel). Sudden warning from info center on dash that stabilitrak had been disabled. Traction control off and theft deterrent warning lights came on and stayed on until vehicle was stopped at a red light. Truck was turned off and restarted after approx. 1 minute. All systems normal when restarted. Problem was intermittent and when it returned later that same night, innova code reader was at the ready. P1626 code suggested loss of communication with modules among other issues. Problem very similar to another complaint [10631837] in a 4-wheel drive Avalanche--my truck has 2-wheel drive. Would not have been so willing to file a complaint with NHTSA except for the fact that my 2007 Avalanche ltz 4-wheel drive (5. 3 flex fuel) also has experienced multiple loss of communication/voltage drop events among internal components with wacky events while either driving or while parked [to include but not limited to flickering headlights when applying the brakes, cruise control disengaging at speed either by itself or when lane change/turn signal activated, hvac head unit going off and resetting, nav/radio going off with a "pop", drivers door control panel flashing along with headlights as truck is parked @ nite, a drivers seat that moves all the way forward as the doors are unlocked with the remote (easy exit feature never used by me), reverse mirror tilt active (though never set to do so), only rear doors locking when remote pushed--2 front doors had to be manually locked, engine hours back to zero, etc]. No immediate safety issues to date, but stabilitrak turning itself off while driving was not reassuring [and could pose a danger at highway speeds and/or hazardous driving conditions. ] dealership has not been able to reproduce problem(s), but has suggested a known problem with the oem battery cables--mine tested ok per dealership.

31 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 02/15/2015

I was driving my truck at about 45 mph when the traction control light came on the dash and my truck suddenly went from 45mph to 20 mph and the motor began to miss fire and buck. If there would have been someone following me they would of hit me in the rearend due to the sudden slowing of my vehicle.

32 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 08/28/2014

There have been continual problems with the engine of my truck and I have found out since buying it there are severe problems with a lot of the engines of the 2007 Avalanche. The mechanic told me when we brought the truck in to find out why the engine had a hesitation in it, that we should hope it was the exhaust system seals needing to be replaced that caused the hesitation because the only other times he had seen this problem it was a manufacturing defect in the 2007 GMC engines that he had seen these problems with alot of the 2007 chevy and GMC trucks including his own. We also about 2 months after buying the truck noticed that the truck was going through oil very quickly but the mechanic said that the seals weren't leaking so didn't know why we were burning oil so fast. The dash has cracked at the corner of the air bag and if there is an accident it could send shards flying. The drivers door sticks and the stability control go's in and out of working order. The electric mirrors stopped folding in and tilting down and tried to have it fixed but Chevrolet said they wouldn't give the mechanic the code to get into the computer system to fix it and the back up sensor that had stopped working also. We now have to go to a Chevrolet dealership to have it fixed. There have been so many problems with these trucks that Chevrolet hasn't fixed these trucks even used usually cost at least $15000 brand new you could double or triple that price I don't think it's a lot to ask to have a decent engine the other problems I could deal with but the engine problem they should fix.

33 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

Vehicle chimes went off, check engine light came on, started displaying stabilitrak disabled, traction control disabled, service stabilitrak, also truck is losing oil without any visible signs of leakage, no oil smell, no oil light displayed.

34 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 04/17/2014

Truck cut off while driving saying reduced engine speed and service stababilty and now truck will not crank with key in ignition everything goes backwards on dash and goes blank also when adjusting steering column service stabability light comes comes on and off is when lost power to truck.

35 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 03/28/2014

I was driving approximately 50 mph when my "stabilitrak off" indicator light popped on followed by "traction control off" and finally "service stabilitrak". This all happened in a matter of 10 seconds so I slowed down and tried to turn in a parking lot but my wheels locked as if I was pressing the brakes although I wasn't. My truck came to a immediate stop by itself. I searched the internet to see what could cause this problem and noticed that this has been happening for the past 10yrs or so on gm vehicles without any specific reason why. This is definitely a safety issue that needs to be addressed.
