I have began to notice when slowing down (foot off the gas and coasting with foot on brake, or brake applied) at any area where my speed decreases to less than 15 mph that my Avalanche will seem to sort of lunge forward. The first time I experienced this I believed it was related to me and ignored it. The next couple of times I experienced this I thought there may be something wrong with the gas or engine. I have spoken with several other owners (who own the same year model Avalanche and suburban - the suburban and Avalanche are made from the same frame/body/parts) and they state experiencing the same issue. I must be cautious to ride my brakes and be read to heavily apply them now when taking an off/on ramp and vehicles are in front of me as my vehicle has lunged forward before with vehicles in front of me. I noticed here that (at the time of this submission) that two other users have reported the same incident. I am hoping that my report here will help open an investigation with Chevrolet on this issue.

When I am slowing down to a stop the transmission will suddenly make the vehicle surge forward quickly. If I not just as quick to apply a firm brake I risk hitting the car or pedestrians near me which has happen on several occasion. On one occasion, as I was turning into a parking space the vehicle suddenly surged forward so forcefully that it cause the front left bumble to travel outside the planned path and hit a brick column. This problem only occurs in situations when I am slowing down, I. E. Making turns, traffic lights, parking, etc. It can be frightening when it occurs unexpectedly. Recently took into local Chevrolet dealer. They acknowledged the problem and said Chevrolet engineers are working on a fix where the transmission's computer is altered. But they didn't seem confident in the outcome.
At times when my Avalanche is slowing down (close to a stop) the truck will lunge forward. It feels like it's something with the transmission (downshifting?). Almost like a surge of energy unexpectidly pushes the truck forward. It does catch me off guard at times, but luckily I have not struck anything when it has happened. It does not do it all the time, but rather intermittenly. I am hoping that gm can figure out why this is happening and possibly issue a recall to fix the problem.
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact stated that while standing at the rear driver¿s side door with the vehicle parked and the engine running, the vehicle rolled away at approximately 20 mph. The contact was knocked over and sustained several injuries including a concussion and soft tissue injuries. The vehicle halted to a stop after crashing against a tree. A police report was not filed of the incident. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer, who stated that the frame was damaged however, the cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 34,000.

So I was sitting at a red light, everything was cool. . And when I started to accellerate the truck almost felt like we got rear-ended. Then when I tried to accelerate it felt like it had slipped into neutral. Drive is completely dead, when I put it into drive, I get nothing. So I put it in 1st, and it worked, it went into gear. Then when I started to accelerate it made this horrible scratching/grinding/whining sound. So I can accelerate slowly and switch to 2nd, slowly, and accelerate slowly and switch to 3rd. 3rd feels good when I accelerate but then if I step on it, it slips out of 3rd back to that neutral feeling. If I try to accelerate quickly in 1st and 2nd I get that horrible sound and grinding feel. it is so many people having this same problem over and over. Some say the dealer charge them over $2800 plus to repair others say some dealers fixed the part in the trans called the forward sprag gear and everthings was ok. Its crazy that so many people with the same problem. 95 percent of the trucks despite the mileage ( 30, 000 to 93, 000) on her truck did this right after the warranty was up. My truck 07 with only 62, xxx on it trans has now done the same thingas everyone else truck. Someone should force gm to recall these transmission and fix them. Word is they used the same transmission thats in mid size cars and light duty trucks and if so everybody will have issues with a full size truck and a light duty transmission!.

I am a soldier with 17yrs of active duty service and I was home over the weekend for the mlk weekend with my family. I leave Monday morning about 0900am to return back to my home station and my truck was driving fine, I stopped at a red light to make a left turn and when the light turned green I accelerated to about 5-10mph then there was a clunking noise and my vehicle would not accelerate anymore it would just send the rpms up so I drifted off the road and put my vehicle in park because I just had my vehicle serviced. I checked all my fluids and they all were fine so I put my vehicle in reverse worked fine, selected drive and it wouldn't move, selected 3rd gear wouldn't move, selected 2nd gear truck would move, and selected 1st the truck would move. There I was with my wife and my 2 daughters and mother-n-law on the side of the road in nc, luckily we didn't get that far from my in-laws home and they called a local shop that towed my vehicle back to her home. I have always wanted an Avalanche but I get on the computer and I start reading about other people who have had the same problem and that is shocking, and to happen under a 100k miles. This is not my 1st chevy vehicle I have owned as well, I have owned a chevy trailblazer ltz that the four wheeled drive went out on that I purchase for my wife, so I traded that in for the 07 trailblazer ss that my wife really loved and that vehicle ended having an electrical fire from the wiring harness and my vehicle sat down at the dealership for almost a month until I notified them that something has to happen in which they let me trade that vehicle in for a Honda accord in which I haven't had any issues out of that my wife is currently driving. In my reading last night when I finally made it back home after borrowing a car from my nephew that just happens to be another Honda accord and I see all these stories posted horrible.
Drove off a parking lot at about 20mph and the transmission quit. Reverse works and all the low gears work out not on automatic mode.

I was driving home and all of a sudden it felt like no power was getting to the wheels. I stepped on the gas, the rpms went up, but the truck couldnt get past 30 mph. My mechanic said that the transmission burnt out. I babied this truck. Their is no reason for a chevy truck with 60000 miles of light road use should blow a tranny. A quick search on the web shows that this is a common problem with this truck. 3200 dollars to fix a part that should have at least lasted 100000 miles.

The vehicle was stopped at a 2-way stop. Upon turning right, my foot went from the brake to the gas pedal and got hooked on a piece of metal extending from the arm of the accelerator. This caused my foot to be trapped below the brake pedal but attached to the gas pedal. The vehicle spun back and forth while trying to get my foot off the accelerator. I hit a truck coming from the opposite direction from which I was turning pinning it to the guard rail. Although both trucks had stopped, the tires on my truck were still spinning because my foot was still hooked on the accelerator and wedge below the brake pedal. Only after I turned the key off could I put the truck in park. In order to get out of my truck I had to unlace my shoe and pull my foot out, then pry it off the side of the accelerator, leaving a hole in the side of my shoe.

When slowing down the vehicle surges forward even when brake is being applied. It does not appear to be related to engine surge as it does with sudden gear change as if the vehicle is speeding up from a stand still. This occurred as I was turning into a parking space which caused the vehicle to veer uncontrollably to the right (was making a left hand turn into parking space) and hit a brick column. It has also happened when coming to a stop and persons were about to walk across road scaring them and me! the vehicle continues to experience these same issues. Dealership has not been able to fix though they did acknowledge that my vehicle was the only one experiencing this issue.
Car stalled unexpectedly on freeway exit for no apparent reason with loss of power steering and all functions. Had to coast to a stop and luckily no other cars were behind us. Additionally, car fuel tank valve does not stop gas when fueling and causes gas to surge out of tank when fueled and onto vehicle. Reported this problem to Dodge and they said this VIN no. Wasn't covered by recall.
Avalanche 4wd selectors started flashing and would not shift out of 4l. Stopped and turned off vehicle. Restarted and service 4wd light lit. Had no forward or reverse gears. Had to have it towed. Dealer said the encoder motor failed.
Clunk when going into drive, also shifts hard when driving down the road.

I have had several issues with my 2003 chevorlet Avalanche z71 only 62,000 miles. My problems started around 8,000 miles with the rear brakes going bad. I have replaced the front and rear brakes four (4) times since I have owned it. The abs speed sensors have been replaced once and need replaced again. The speedometer is stuck at 120 mph, the u joints have been replaced and now the transmission has gone out. I feel that chevorlet should fix these problems under a warranty/recall.
I was driving along at 60 mph and lightly accelerated and heard a clunk. I continued to drive along and slowed down to exit off the interstate. Then when got off the interstate and came up to a green arrow and turned left. Then as soon as I accelerated at 25 mph, I felt the transmission go out and heard a high pitch whine and some grinding. Then was not able to accelerate anymore.

I was driving to a church function with my wife and about 30mph under acceleration, my truck started lugging like it was in 6th gear. It started shaking then the tachometer was flucuating up and down about 500 rpm's. I checked the transmission fluid and looked good. I have a very important business trip tomorrow morning and now I am stuck. I took it for another drive to see if the problem occured at a higher speed and it does. I put the cruise on about 60mph and the truch was bucking and the rpm's were going crazy. I drive mostly highway miles. Very dissapointed in the service I have had with this truck so far with another issue and now I have to deal with this.

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked on a slight incline when a loud bang was heard and the vehicle began to roll away, in reverse. The rear tail lights were illuminated as the vehicle rolled away before crashing into a body of water. The vehicle was destroyed. The contact's insurance company inspected the vehicle and determined that the failure was either contributed to the park pole or the teeth fracturing in the transmission. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was unknown.
Went to pull out of a parking lot, gave it a little gas and nothing. Engine idled up but it would not move. Went down through the gears but still would not move. Had to put it in reverse and back into a parking space and called a tow truck. $2900 dollars later the transmission was replaced with genuine gm rebuilt transmission.
When taking off from a stop it feels like I am being bumped from behind, or like the engine just dropped out of the vehicle. Very hard shifting between 1st, 2nd and 3rd when vehicle has been driven about 50 miles consecutive. Check engine light is on but will go off intermittently.
Cracked dashboard on passenger side where airbag is fitted. Upper lefthand side of airbag. Traction control/stabilitrac system: service indicator warnings activate, switches from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive high even though selector is in 2wd mode. The first occurrence of this was at 70k miles, then again at 90k. Then again at 97k the transmission was damaged and needed to be replaced. Again at 101k miles the ringgear in the rear axel was destroyed. Rear axel was replaced. Fifth time for those counting, 116k miles service stabilitrac and service traction control warnings, switching from 2wd to 4wd high while moving, while parked, selector in 2wd position with someone at the wheel or cab empty. Evaporative emission control warning. Check engine light on, code comes back to eec. Indicating a leak in the return line. The first time this was replaced at 70k miles, this is the second time. And no it is not the gas cap being loose or needing replaced. The first time there was "water in the connector" (yeah sure).
Service 4wheel drive message appears. I have had this problem repaired numerous times. No codes are listed in the onboard computer. Technicians cannot identify the failing component. They replace parts until the message goes away. The vehicle shifts into 4 wheel drive without warning. This ahs happened to me numerous times. This happens during high humidity or rainy conditions. Numerous TSB have been issued. One common cause is wiring harness connector that is prone to fail due to moisture. Chevy has not issued a safety recall.
The transmission began to shift hard. The answer from the dealer was need new transmission for $4500. Stated that the fluid sensor housing was cracked and the entire transmission needed replacement. Seemed a bit ridiculous for a two year old vehicle that towed nothing.
The four wheel drive service lamp frequently illuminates at different speeds and stays on until the truck is restarted, then the lamp will stay off for days , then come back on for no reason, when the truck is scanned no codes are returned, the truck seems to drive fine, but the problem is very annoying.
2005 Chevrolet Avalanche headlight was loose and fell out while washing the vehicle. When driving the drive train makes a clanking noise. ** answer required*** after a thunderstorm, the next morning, the consumer found that water had saturated in the tailgate area.
Purchased may 31, 2005. 39 mileage. $43,000. 00. 8 months later the transmission started jerking. We took it to the dealer 6+ times and they said they couldn't find anything. Now at 75,000 miles it won't drive in d it has to be in 3, 2, 1 to drive. I have read 100's of complaint about transmissions in 2000-2010 models. Gm needs to take care of their customer transmission problem or design a better transmission.
Transmission and/or rear axle locks up while vehicle is in motion causing erratic vehicle handling and/or life-threatening situation. * cb.
