Failure Date: 06/20/2009

When lowering the spare tire the cable assembly lowers to the ground but the metal sleeve that the cable runs through and also is suppose to drop as the cable is lowers gets stuck in the assembly and the end result is the tire is only partially lowered and is stuck with the cable on the ground. You can kick pull try and use the tire iron to try and pry it down but it does not go down. If the truck were up on the jack and flat tire removed it would be very easy for the truck to come off the jack because of the force needed to try and get the spare tire down. The problem is the tire wont come down. If a person were to get frustrated and try and drive on the flat and forget to raise the cable it could be possible for the spare tire to suddenly be jarred loose and suddenly be dragging behind the truck and who knows what might happen to a vehicle behind the truck as it drove down the road.

The 4 main tires are goodyear wrangler hp 265/70r17 and the spare tire is a firestone wilderness at p265/75r16. The owner's manual specifically states to use same size tires & type of tires. The spare tire should be the same as the premium tire package I upgraded my package to. . . Not a smaller size without any warning of what damage it could do to the vehicle if you used it for an extended period. . . . I think they should have the same size spare. If not, at least inform you of the potential damage one could do to their vehicle or person. (tiresize: p265/75r16).
