31 problems related to windshield wiper/washer have been reported for the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

There is an NHTSA recall, 03v159000, regarding the windshield wiper/washer. The VIN was not included in the recall.
I recently purchased a 1997 chevy s-10 Blazer. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that the windshield wipers would work sporadically, and sometimes not at all. I researched this issue and found on different internet forums that others had an issue with this too. I then did a recall search and found nothing under 1997 chevy Blazer, however, under 1997 chevy s-10 (my Blazer is the s-10 model) a recall pertaining to exactly what I am experiencing (NHTSA campaign id number: 03v159000). I then proceeded to contact my local Chevrolet dealer, and with no avail, was told that my particular model was not included. So I then contacted Chevrolet directly, and again was told it was not subject to this particular recall. In the recall summary, it states "on certain minivans, pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles. " I would like to have this matter taken care of without any financial impact on my part. Obviously I am experiencing exactly what the recall states.
Erratic windsheild wiper blades on my 1997 Blazer s-10. The wipers will not come on sometimes unless the wiper arms are moved by hand. When that happenes, it is difficult at times to get them working. There was a recall on the wipers for the 1996 balzer and the 1997 s-10. My vehicle has the exact same wiper system as both of the recalled vehicles. My vehicle needs to be recalled and repaired.
While driving in the rain the windshield wipers stopped working. Manufacturer stated there were too many miles on the vehicle to make the repairs at no cost. Recall campaign: NHTSA item number: 10001125. The consumer referenced campaign number 03v159000.

The consumer received a letter in the mail which stated the windshield wipers were possibly defective and the repair should be done by Feb. 24,3004. The consumer missed the deadline and was told also that the vehicles mileage was over 70,000 miles.

I just saw this in the newspaper - I was not notified by the dealer about the previous recall. No safety defect listed.
Windshield wipers will stop working while in use. Consumer stated that he had to shake windshield wipers while driving to get them to continue working. The wiper problem was recalled for 1996 model, but the problem still exists in 1997 model.
The windshield wiper motor has quit functioning on 4 different occassions during the past year, and everytime, naturally, it has been raining or snowing. I have talked to other 96 and 97 Blazer owners and about half have had their wiper motors replaced indicating to me a basic design flaw. The dealer said it was the first case he's heard of a tap on the motor case brings the dead motor back to life. Dt.
Windshield wipers work then do not work. Hear wiper motor making noise but not working. Has happend 4 times now. Have to tap wiper motor to work, but last time tapping did not work. Next day wipers worked.

Windshield wipers would spontaneously become intermittant and subsequently stop working after consecutive use until they finally stopped working completely. Independantly replaced circuit board and cover at own expense . Have since discovered that numerous identical complaints exist and recall (NHTSA campaign id#: 98v150001) exists for 1996 models. Believe additional investigation should be made to include newer vehicles as well.
Windshield wipers randomly do not turn on. Occasionally stopping the vehicle, turning engine off and restarting engine will allow wipers to start. Sometimes after they start they will stop operating on the upsweep. Sometimes they will start again from that position without any input from the driver. Then there are days when they operate as intended, with no problems at all.
While using windshield wipers and without any indication windshield wipers would stop working. Consumer would have to get out vehicle and touch module. Please provide further information.
This is a reoccuring problem. I literally need to get out of the trck and pull up on the blades in order for them to function - or constantly turn the knob on and off, until the wipers "catch". There has been instances while driving and the wipers functioning that they literally stop in the upright position. I know there has been a recall on the 1996 models - however the 1997 was not included. I know I am not the only person experiencing this problem!.
While driving in bad weather condition the solder joint near the wiring harness connector malfunctioned, causing the windshield wipers to become inoperable. Dealer provided only a temporary fix to the problem. Vehicle was not included in recall number 98v150001. Please give any further details.

Intermittently windshield wipers will fail ,not moving even through, motor is running. Owner has had to sit on side of the road for twenty minutes until wipers started moving again. Please describe details.
Windshield wipers working intermittently while in use or will not turn on. Dealer has been contacted. Consumer adds when wipers are activated the motor can be heard, but the wipers work with excessive effort. Wiper delay module was replaced. Consumer's husband who has same year is experiencing the same problem.
