17 problems related to windshield wiper/washer switch have been reported for the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Windshield wipers fail to operate when switched on and/or shut-off without warning in all positions except the full-on position.
Wipers fail.
Both of my 1998 Chevrolet trucks have defects in the windshield wiper electronics and/or motor.
Windshield wipers seem to work when they feel like it. Unfortunately they don't feel like it when it rains. I had to drive 6 miles in heavy rain with no wipers tonight. When I came home I started researching this and am upset to find that this happens frequently to other Blazer owners. I feel this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed by a recall.
Windshield wiper module failed during snow storm 10/04 and was replaced at a cost of $156.
Windshield wipers do not work properly, sometimes they do not work at all, sometimes they will not turn off for a long time after the switch is turned off. From the complaints I have read on this internet site,it seems that you thought this was a problem in previous years, but it's not a problem now. Please believe me,it is. Try it out for yourself. Next time you are coming home fron a long trip, with two kids in the car, pretend that it's raining, pull off the road and sit there for over an hour, you can't get out of the car and stretch, you can't take your kids to the bathroom. Okay,it stopped raining,on your way again. After a half hour of driving, woops,it's raining again. Apparently, nobody told the clouds that a 98 chevy Blazer was on the highway. Still don'y think it's a problem, try this. Take your child to a very important event that they have to attend,a little over half way there, pretend that it starts to rain, and your wipers won't turn on. Do you try to see through the rain cascading down you windshield and hope that you can keep your car on the road and out of heavy oncoming traffic or do you pull off the road and hope that the rain doesn't last more than the twenty minutes of extra time you allowed yourself. I could go on,but the bottom line is "there is a malfunction problem in the wiper control system in these vehicles . "do you need death reports before a problem becomes a problem?why don't you ,at the very least, send a questionaire to the owners of these vehicles to see how many have this problem, can't you do something?.
Windshield wipers don't work most of the times. (5/1/04). Last week a turn signal noise started which is apparently a multifunction switch in the steering column is bad. (7/1/04).
Wiper stops while in the middle of windshield, or wiper runs continuously.
#1. Windshield wipers fail to come on and it seems that if the cruise control is on that's when they don't work. Could be a coincidence??heard 97's had same problem and they were under recall. #2. Inside of car always feels like you have heater . Have to run a/c to feel cool. #3 interior overhead light fails to come on or to go off. #4 had my transmission fluid changed 6 months ago and next day my check engine light came on and dealer said my transmission needed repaired for about $1200. 00 and I had no money to do it. What's strange is my car drives beautifully and I've never felt any gear slippage. Is there some sort of reset button for this?.
Windshield wipers work erratically.
Bad solder in wiper motor module in 1997 and are recalled I own a 98 has the same problem and are not recalled( 98 chevy Blazer).
The windshield wipers work intermittently. They will just stop working for long periods of time, and other times will work properly. 1995 through 1997 Blazers were recalled for the same problem, but the 1998 was not included (see nhsta campaign id# 98v150001, recall date July 1, 1998). Chevrolet told me to get it fixed and if it becomes a recall item, I will be reimbursed.
At night during a pouring rainstorm my windshield wipers stopped working on a narrow two lane road. Think this won't quicken your pulse? repair was $166. 00 and my mechanic says this is a frequent repair in his shop. I see plenty of compaints for this same problem in the 1998 model. This is a real safety issue and a recall should be issued.
Same problem with windshield wipers stopping and starting in any weather I have had contact with g. M. Via mr, tim sindel and was told that basically there is no problem with my 1998 and that since I'm not the original owner sorry about your luck even though my vehicle only has 62,000 miles.
Failure of windshield wipers.
Since we purchased the vehicle we have had problems with the windshield wipers, they go off in the middle, andat time they don't work at all in order for them to work you have to raise the hood and jiggle the circuit board before they work I have been on the road many times swered, they quit on you or they wont come on at all this is the same problem the older Chevrolet were havin I reported and it has not been recalled yet if I have an accident because on this failure I will sue gm for this proble I am a very petite lady I can not get out and reach to jigle the wire and I have my 3 children with me most of the time the gm dealer told me it was a matter of time before they recalled them I am tired of waitinf I was caught in a hell storm the other day and could not see anything. I want something done about this as soon as possible.
Windshield wipers don't operate properly. Windshield wipers sometimes come on by themselves, and will not turn off. Also, windshield wipers will stop operating during inclement weather. The dealer inspected the wipers and informed the consumer that there is a wiring problem with the windshield wipers.
