1 Windshield Wiper/washer Motor problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2007

The windshield wipers worked/failed intermittently. There was no discernible pattern, but it was a dangerous situation. My wife traveled 120 miles round trip to work and had to stop midway yesterday because of rain. The windshield wipers randomly decided not to work. A half-hour of waiting and they worked fine.

2 Windshield Wiper/washer Motor problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2007

For the past year of owning this vehicle I've experienced a sporadic front wiper motor. Just recently it went out causing me to swerve and hit a low branch. The branch caused the windscreen to crack but not shatter, and the driverside wiper to cease functioning.

3 Windshield Wiper/washer Motor problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2006

Windshield wipers work sporadically and never in heavy rain. Sometimes they work in light rain but then quit all together. Refuse to put any more money into this money pit and get them fixed. Assuming it's an electrical problem like everything else on this Blazer model. Am looking for a new car and only drive Blazer when conditions are dry.

4 Windshield Wiper/washer Motor problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2005

Windshield wipers stopped working while I was driving on I-5 @ 70 mph. I pulled over and looked at the wiper motor , tapped the wire harness , it worked for about 10 miles, did they do a recall???? anyone know !!!.

5 Windshield Wiper/washer Motor problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2005

1998 Chevrolet Blazer. The windshield wipers work intermittently. They will stop at any given time, during wet weather. The stopped wiper blocks view through the windshield. No damage has occurred to the wiper motor/circuit board or wiring. This is a product failure that gm has not recalled for this make/model/year. They have recalled 1996, 1997, 2002, and 2003 suvs with the same complaint. After many conversations with gm representatives, they refuse to repair the defective equipment. I must pay for repairs out of my own pocket. Why won't they recall the 1998 line when there are so many complaints about them? a quick on-line internet search yields hundreds of unhappy 1998 Blazer owners that are experiencing the very same wiper issues that caused the other recalls.

6 Windshield Wiper/washer Motor problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2005

On several occasions my windshield wipers did not work according to the setting on the windshield wiper control. Many times the wipers would go on and not shut off and many time the wipers would not go on at all. Over the span of 18,000 miles the effect have been dangerous to my personal safety. On sunny days when applying the windshield washer, the wipers would not operate. This causes me to pull over and pull on the windshield wipers until they start and then they do not turn off. On rainy days, they turn off without warning causing me to pull over on the highway and risk being hit due to a driver side vehicle exit on busy highways to manually clean the window or wait until the rain stops. I have had the control replaced at a cost of over $300 but the problem still persists. I have been told the motor needs to be replaced due to faulty connections from the pulse controller board and the wiper motor. This is a major safety flaw in the vehicle and must be corrected by gm. I hope you can help all the owners of vehicles using ac delco part number 15036008 wiper motors. Many complaint have been documented and it is time that the NHTSA protected the drivers of the vehicles effected regardless of the pain caused to gm. If it saves only one life it is worth it. How many people have died and have not been able to document the problem due to their deaths? how many complaints does it take before you take action against an obvious safety flaw in a vehicle? this must be addressed.

9 Windshield Wiper/washer Motor problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2005

While driving to tenn. For an important event, in the rain- our windshield wipers quit and will only work on and off. They would just stop in the verticle postion blocking my husbands view and we would have to stop on the side of the road to push them down in the rain. They still work part time. This is my only vehicle and this is the rainy season. I have almoost benn involved in accidents. Being my only vehicle I have no choice but to take a chance. I checked on the VIN number with no luck on a recall. I called gm they suggested I get an analysis.

12 Windshield Wiper/washer Motor problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2005

We own (my wife) a 1998 chevy Blazer. The windshield wipers began to quit for no reason intermittently about 6 months ago. We were recently traveling west on I-70 just past the eisenhower tunnel in colorado in a raging downpour, and they quit again nearly causing an accident. I've read on the web that there was a recall on the wiper motor pulse module for many years' Blazer models, but not the '98 or '99, which are having the same problem according to the numerous complaints I've read on the web. I believe the 1998 model Blazer pulse module should be recalled also. Can't you compel gm to recall this also? I've read numerous stories on the web of people getting into accidents because of this problem. Gm should fix it for free.

13 Windshield Wiper/washer Motor problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2005

Contact states there is a problem with the windshield wipers on 1998 Chevrolet Blazer. The wipers will not come on at all or they will stop abruptly. There is a recall on the 1996 and 1997 Chevrolet Blazer, but not the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer. The manufacturer stated if there were enough complaints in the future a recall will be issued. May 2005 the wiper stopped working during a rain storm resulting in reduced visibility. The windshield wiper motor and circuit board were replaced.

14 Windshield Wiper/washer Motor problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2004

I have a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer (last 8 of VIN w2121658) that the windshield wipers intermittent levels do not work. The high level of the wipers will work for a short amount of time and then stop. I want to make a complaint because several other years of this same model have had a recall but this year and VIN do not have a current recall on them.

15 Windshield Wiper/washer Motor problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2004

Windshield wipers work when they want on or not. Also only work on high for 10% of time. Can't go anywhere when it is raining because of not knowing when wipers will work. Have almost had 3 accidents because of suddenly no wipers in down pours. Called dealership will cost anywhere from $80. 00 to $300. 00 to fix depending on what is the problem. Can't get fix because just spent $1000. 00 on oil cooler lines for the 2nd time. Also had this same problem with my 93 truck and my 86 truck but they were recalled along with my boyfriends 97 truck with the same manufacture date on windshield wiper motor. But 98 Blazers aren't recalled even though they have the same windshield circuits and motors. Doesn't make since to me. Somebody is going to get killed with this as I have seen many complaints on this with the 98 Blazer.

16 Windshield Wiper/washer Motor problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2004

During the first rainstorm since I bought my used Blazer, my front windshield wiper didn't work when turned on. After repeatedly turning the switch on and off, the wiper finally worked at high speed only. After a while, it worked at low speed and intermitent speed. Then while in the intermitent speed position, the wiper worked in low speed only. When switched off, the wiper didn't immediately stop. Since the rainstorm, this problem was an intermittent problem with the wiper either working correctly or malfunctioning. I removed the windshield wiper pulse control module from the wiper motor, examined the circuit board, and found eight cracked solder joints. I resoldered the defective solder joints and reinstalled the module into the wiper motor. The front windshield wiper has worked correctly since my repair. The design of the circuit board is poor. These failures occurred at stress points. Apparently no accommodation was made to mechanically secure the leads to the circuit board before the leads were soldered. Instead, solder was used to both mechanically secure the leads to the circuit board and electrically provide the electrical conductivity required. To exacerbate this situation, not enough solder was used at these joints. The previous owner told me that the front windshield wiper operated erratically, but it happened after the warranty period and the erratic operation was not so bad that he was overly concerned about it. It is a fact that cracks on defective solder joints widen when subjected to stress over a period of time. This has been an identified safety problem in general motors' 1994 to 1997 pickups, sport utility vehicles, and vans.

24 Windshield Wiper/washer Motor problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2004

On my way to work on a rainy Monday morning my windshield wipers failed . . I had no choice to cut off a couple cars to get to breakdown lane. . There was no accident or injuries invovled but it could have been very serious if there was due to not being able to see. . I checked fuses and wiper motor connection they were fine. . I called my boss told him I was going to be late . . He told me about a recall on gm products and to shake the wiper arms to get them going again. . They did start working again. . After checking with several gm dealships they informed me that the recall was from 1994-1997 on several makes and models but my 1998 was not included even tho there were several reports that the problem still existed in 98's and above due to they changed the part # on the wiper motor. . Keep in mind here they changed the # not the part. . ?????. . How can they get away with this??? I have taken today off from work at a $200. 00 loss to replace the part myself due to I cant afford to pay dealship prices to fix this problem and will never go to someone like gm again when they wont stand by their products anyway. Thank you kenneth gough.

27 Windshield Wiper/washer Motor problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2004

I purchased the vehicle used. But from the day I purchased it, I had a problem with the windshield wipers! it seemed as though sometimes they will freeze halfway through the motion, and other times they wouldn't shut off. One year later - due to lack of time and funding - I have been unable to fix this problem - which has now progressed to the point in which 80% of the time my windshield wipers will fail to work! I will turn the knob - and they don't not come on! I have found that a short in terms of loose connection does not appear to be the cause of this malfunction. I have also tested this theory by turning on the wipers to max speed (of the 20% of the time my wipers work, about 3/4 of that time will the wipers only work when I have them set to maximum speed) - I have even seen several times, while driving over a completely flat surface, my wipers set to max speed, suddenly come to life again! only to stop working again later. I also attempted driving over potholes to see if the bump would jarr the chip into working - it did not work once. Gm has stated that this problem is caused by the wiper pulse control modual. I searched around - and found that this wiper modual (wether it is the same one, or variations of the same unit) go back I believe to the 1980's! now that is insane worst of all - 1998 was one of the only years not recalled by gm! I have found this to be a very common problem - and find it obsurde that I must pay $130 to the dealership to have this item repaired. I would easily pay the $100 for the board if I was not a college student - who can't afford to spend $100 on something like this - and I also just find it stupid that I should be forced to pay the dealership a lot of money for something that they have been having problems with for 10+ years! thank you for reading this report - I just had to express my deepest anger with gm for watching them continue to ignore this large threat.
