82 problems related to windshield wiper/washer motor have been reported for the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Windshield washer/wiper and intermittent failed.
Once again my wipers failed to work during a down pour of rain. I had to pull to the side of the road to avoid an accident. My wipers work intermittently or not at all sometimes. Earlier models of this vehicle were recalled for this very same problem. Why hasn't this model been recalled?.
While driving in rainy weather, the windshield wipers failed to work properly. This was an intermittent problem. Called dealership, and mechanic indicated that problem could not be corrected because of a lack of recall. The windshield wipers would not turn off when they were switched to off position or would not engage.
Windshield wipers were inoperable, obstructing the driver's views. Dealer stated there was not recall on this vehicle. A recall has been issued on similar makes and models, however this vehicle was not included due to the VIN.
Windshield wipers worked intermittently while driving at any speed. Chevrolet issued a recall for this vehicle, but the consumer's vehicle was not involved. Consumer eventually fixed the problem, and notified the dealer and the manufacturer.
1998 Blazer windshield wipers sporatically working, stopping, not stopping, no control over speed. Very hazardous when driving in the rain and all of a sudden the wipers stop in the upright position and will not come back on.
My wife has a 1998 chevy Blazer. She is having problem with her wipers. They have been acting up for some time and are getting more frequent. They will just stop working. Im sure you are aware of this complaint. I know there are recalls on this for certain years but,the 1998 model is not included. I have seen on line the complaints of other people with this same problem. I have even contacted gm about this. They told me because of the age and mileage on the vehicle(107,000 miles) we could not have this fixed free of charge. It seems to me this is an ongoing problem that gm does not wish to resolve. Is there anything we can do to have them fix this?.
Windshield wipers fail to turn on when needed. Wipers often stop working while switch is in proper "on" position for operation during rain - very dangerous. Wipers fail to shut off when switched into correct "off" position. Wipers adjust their own intermittent speed.
I am the owner of a 1998 chevy Blazer. My wipers have ceased to function and there is a large recall on gm vehicles 1994-1997. My vehicle was manufactured in oct. 1997 and so was the wiper box. The recall was for 1. 77 million trucks. I think it should also include the early 1998 (technically they are 1997) vehicle. My VIN # is 1gndt13wxw2158381. With gm/chevy knowing the enormity of this problem, it is no fair that I should have to pay 125. 00 to correct their defect in their product.
98 chevy Blazer; windsheild wipers stopped working in the middle of a severe rain storm. In the vehicle were my wife, my three year old son and myself.
Windshield wiper motor on my 1998 Chevrolet Blazer operates interrmitently, at times. Has not been much of a problem until yesterday on the way home in a down pour. The wipers just stopped. Began working again a few minutes later, after I was able to exit the freeway.
While traveling on the highway without prior warning, the windshield wiper stopped and failed to restart.
Windshield wipers stop intermittently, a real problem at high speeds during a storm. This is a known issue by Chevrolet, has happened on s-10 pickups, the solder develops cracks which causes the failures. Please be sure to sue Chevrolet for not doing a recall.
My 98 Blazer's windshield wipers have a mind of their own. They come on by themselves, go off when they want to. On intermittent, they do whatever speed they feel like doing, and can shut themselves off at anytime (it doesn't matter if they were just turned on or not). It is dangerous and there should be a recall on this year (there's been one on every other year)! please help resolve this situation gm!.
1998 Chevroleter 4x4 4door. Windshield wipers on the front quit working. Have worked on and off for 2 months. Can get them to work after placing a zip strap around motor and wires and pulling real tight. This looks like an identical problem that a previous recall was performed on. I also have had to replace the wiper motor in my 91 Chevroletk 3 times. Sometimes they would work. Sometimes they wouldn't. This apparently is a big problem with Chevroletr motors as my friends are having similar problems as well with various chevy trucks and Blazers.
Windshield wipers sometimes stop on there own. Sometimes they are on intermitent and just start working like the on the normal setting. Sometimes when I shut them off they won't stop. I have called general motors and even though there is a recall for 1997 Blazers for this problem, since my Blazer is a 1998(manufacture date 10/97) they will not help me at all.
Windshield wiper motor failed intermittently while in use. Which resulted in poor visibility. When operated on medium and high speeds the consumer was able to re-start by shutting the wipers down. The last time the incident occurred during a heavy rain storm. The dealer said there was nothing they could do.
While driving in bad weather, the windshield wipers worked intermittently.
Windshield wiper stop working when raining.
Windshield wipers will not engage. Some times they will come on and not stop. When its raining they will not come on at all. Up until recently this has been the issue. Two days ago it decided that it wasn't going to work at all. So I cannot drive my car in the rain and cannot afford to have the motor repaired at the dealer for 600.
While driving in the rain, the windshield wipers worked intermittently. . The wipers changed from intermittent to full without changing wiper control.
Front windshield wipers worked intermittently.
The windshield wipers will engage then go off by itself. Now it will quit working while it is engaged. The consumer has to push the wiper plug in to restart the wipers. The dealership indicated this is due to a crack in the solder joints on the controller circuit board. There's a recall on this issue 03v159000 but the VIN # is outside the remedy scope.
Windshield wipers stopped during heavy down pour. Chevrolet customer assistance center (cac) says contact selling dealer. Dealer supposedly replaced "wiper module", but did not help. Repeated contact with cac produces "ho-hum" and no solution. Vehicle has 26543 miles on it!.
The windshield wipers have failed repeatedly while in use. The wipers change speed on their own and/or turn themselves off on their own, sometimes within the field of view of the driver. This condition appears to be related to the wiper motor wiring or circuitry to the wiper motor side of the wiring harness. I have been able to restart the wipers by jiggling the wiring harness, but obviously this is not a safe condition.
The windshield wipers have failed repeatedly while in use. The wipers change speed on their own and/or turn themselves off on their own. This condition appears to be related to the wiper motor wiring or circuitry to the wiper motor side of the wiring harness. Have had the delay switch replace once and the motor replaced once but the problem keeps returning. I have been told that this problem is the same as the one found under #98043.
While driving at 20 mph windshield wipers stalled. Months before, windshield wipers only worked intermittently, at least 20 times in one year. Dealer replaced a circuit board but the problem persisted.
Consumer states that while driving the vehicle in the rain windshield wipers would work intermittently. Dealer notified.
The front windshield wipers work intermittently or become inoperative during inclement conditions. Dealer was notified, but dealer informed the consumer that this vehicle was not covered under that recall.
For the past 3 years my windshield wipers have worked intermittenly during rainy or wet conditions. This has caused me a great deal of concern and frustration since it has at times been so difficult to see while on the road during a rain that I've had to pull over for safety sake. These are the same conditions described by the recall of the '95 chevy Blazer that I read. Mine is a '98 chevy Blazer. According to the dealer I've taken this in to for possible recall, this is not unusual for this year and model. Expecting for a recall on this for the past 3 years, I've still not had it repaired.
Windshield wipers quit working in the rain. Took to dealer, they said there had been a recall for 1997 models, and expected one for 1998 model. Did not replace wiper motor decided to wait for recall. Looking on internet, found this to be a problem with many 1998 chevy Blazers.
Have had problems with windshield wiper motor failures similar to others listed. When turning wipers on in any delay setting or continuous slow, the wipers would quit at random times. Sometimes moving switch to continuous high would get wipers to work again. Sometimes not. Also wipers, when turned off would go to bottom of swipe and come back up 1 inch. I have since taken out the relay circuit board and resoldered connectors to the wiring harness and fixed a partially burned out circuit. Wipers work fine after.
Same discription as campaign 98v150001: winshield wipers stop working in heavy rain or after a car wash. So far have been able to safely pull over since I've been in town when this has happened. Hate to think what would have happened in heavy traffic or at high speeds. Warranty will not cover this. Dealer will replace for a fee.
Windshield wipers fail intermittently during inclement weather. Dealership replaced wiper module at owners expense.
I have experienced wiper motor failures similar to campaign #98043. When it rains, my wipers will sporatically stop working. I have read about recall #98043, but am aware that it does not apply to 1998 Blazers. Nevertheless, the problem seems to be identical to those from the earlier recalls. Please advise.
