In addition, the contact mentioned that when the brake pedal was depressed, an abnormal sound and smoke emitted from the safety hazard switch. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was being diagnosed but had not been repaired. The contact also stated that the vehicle was previously serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 01v364000 (exterior lighting). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 141,000.

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer. While driving 5 mph, both brake lights failed to illuminate properly while reversing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 160,000.

While vehicle was parked and consumer was taking the key from the ignition switch steering wheel caught on fire, independent mechanic determined that hazard warning switch melted, and caused the fire. Also, turn signal and brake lights were inoperative.

Three years ago the problem began. The owner pulled over to the side of the street and when the hazard lights were turned off then brakes went off as well and would not come back on. The main tail lights and brake lights did not work anymore. There was a recall and the owner did not receive the recall notice. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for service and the hazard light switch was replaced. The next time the hazard lights were used, the brake lights stopped working again. This happened about ten months after the first failure. Then the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, they were willing to repair the hazard lights at a cost of $500. There seemed to be no indication from the dealership as to why these hazards lights kept failing. The dealership has been contacted by the owner at least 7 times in last month and a half. The owner attempted to work it out with gm 10 times in the last month and a half.

8 Brake Light problem

I learned of a recall of 2000 and 2001 gm vehicles relating to brake light failure. I contacted gm and they refuse to honor or issue recall stating my vehicle is not affected or covered by VIN. It's rear brake lights do not work despite replacement of all bulbs and fuses.

Brake lights completely stopped working. This was second time this has happened. They will stop working and then they will start to work again. The hazard warning lights are also not working. Yd.

Brake lights will not light up. Police has pulled vehicle over for brake lights not being on. Dealer replaced multi function switch, however problem still occurs, emergency flashers inoperable, dealer replaced multi function switch again and problem still continues.
