2 Front Seat Belt Retractor problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 09/15/2004

I have a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer. On three separate occasions overthe past two years, I have had to replace the rear seatbelts due to problems with the belts not retracting. The failures of these seat belts has caused me to be unable to secure a car seat in the rear of the car. General motors has charged me for the repairs to the seat belts. Given that three of the seat belt assemblies required replacement in the past two years, I feel that there is a design or other defect with the belts that should be investigated. I do not know how significant the problem may be, but if it has happened to me on three occasions in two years, it may be a widespread problem. I ask that you look into it.

Failure Date: 05/12/2002

Front passengers seat belt is faulty! I was in a collision and rear ended by another driver. My mother was with me and in the passenger seat. Her seat belt at the shoulder did not lock and as a result she was thrown forward, causing a torn rotator cuff. She has doctors documents to back this up. Surgery was scheduled with no advail. We had other complications arise and the doctor canceled surgery in the operating prep. Room. We have been referred to specialist and are now awaiting for them to decide whether or not to again schedule surgery. In the mean time, the wave 3 trouble shooter, suggested I contact your office. Any help that you can be in this matter would be appreciated. My mother remains in pain on medication, and Chevrolet officials won't help my mother in any way. The vehicle in question is a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer, 4 door, 4x4. Initially, all we ask Chevrolet for was a new seatbelt. However, through the internet and cnn news, I know that there has been other reports for this problem. So I feel that Chevrolet should compensate me for my injuries that I have and will suffer pain from.

7 Front Seat Belt Retractor problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 03/01/2002

Seat belt retractor does not work.

8 Front Seat Belt Retractor problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 02/01/2002

Passenger seat belt locks into place with little or no passenger movement, cannot be released without removing seatbelt completely and retracting completely. Also own a 2002 Oldsmobile bravada same problem on passenger side restraint. Passenger must remove seat belt every few minutes just to breathe or tuck shoulder strap behind them. This is a serious flaw on the passenger side seat belt on all 2002 bravada's, trailblazers and envoys. Dealer has no fix at this time except to try a seat belt extender to change passenger side angle on restraint belt to see if it helps. This should be a serious recall issue. Will file seperate complaint for 2002 Oldsmobile bravada also just purchased. Serious injury or death could occur if crash happens while passenger is unrestrained to release the locked belt.

9 Front Seat Belt Retractor problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 11/29/2001

My 9 year old son unbuckled the left rear seat belt (where he had been seated) after I parked the vehicle in my driveway. Somehow he became entangled in it when he turned around in the seat to look in the cargo area. The belt became wrapped around his stomach as he struggled to free himself, and because the belt would not release, but kept getting tighter and tighter, there was no way to get him out of it . I had to get my sewing scissors to cut him free as the belt wouldn't give us any slack, but kept reeling in , getting tighter and tighter. I'm concerned that some child may get one of these belts wrapped around his neck. Once the unbuckled belt is reeled in, it won't give any slack until it goes all the way in. If someone gets entangled, and there isn't a knife or scissors handy, I'm afraid there will be a fatality.
