I was driving down the road took a right hand turn and my driverside back seat door flew open narrowly missing an on coming while I was on my way to pick up my 11 year old son. If my son was in the car and did not have his safety belt on he could have been thrown from the vehicle and even if he did he could have been seriously hurt or killed if the on coming car hit the open door. I registered a complaint with chevy and it was a real joke to them. What they said is because there is no recall they will do nothing and that I should take it to the dealer to have it fixed. I guess someone needs to be killed before they will take an action.

2002 s-10 Blazer 4wd concern
first let me say I have not changed the drivers door pins and bushings even through I knew they were bad. The door closes and locks on the door striker than mounts to the vehicle side post. Here is what happened, which at a service center getting the transmission serviced and replacing the 4 wd drive shaft, I returned to pick my car up. The door would not close and latch, upon further investigation, the entire door striker assembly fractured the side post metal and pushed into the sidepost assembly. This prevented the door from latching. I went to a chevy dealership in gresham, oregon, we looked at the design, the door striker is only mounted to the sheetmetal with a metal backing support behind it. My question is, how did this vehicle pass any kind of side impact test with this design? the only thing keeping the door from flying open is what I described above. I am shocked that the door striker is not secured to a steel post of some kind. I'm going to take some digital pictures of the striker assembly to keep incase you are interested in looking at them.

I own a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer. The left front door dropped about a quarter of an inch and the lock was dragging on the striker plate on the door jam. And getting more difficult to open and close. About two months ago it was in to the dealer for oil change and lube. I requested at that time that the left door by lubricated because it had started to creak when opened and closed. They said they lubed it but the noise was still there. Subsequently I talked to several mechanics and told them the problem and was told that this problem has existed for a long time on gm products as many as twenty five or thirty years. I took it into the dealer on 1-21-2009, Wednesday and the write up person asked a supervisor to look at it. They told me that a bushing, pin or hinge was failing. And that it would cost $150. 00 to repair it. He also told me that the service policy I have on this vehicle excludes hinges from being covered. At that time he asked me if I still wanted it repaired. The vehicle only has 24500 miles on it. And if I didn't repair it eventually the door would be either unable to open or close. There would be a safety issue trying to drive it without having it repaired and being either unable to open or close the door. Subsequently I told them to repair the hinges, pin or bushings so that the problem would be corrected and the vehicle made safe to drive. I have the parts that they replaced. The cost of this repair was $135. 59.

The contact owns a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer. While proceeding to turn a corner at 25 mph, the driver's side door unexpectedly opened. The driver immediately closed the door manually while the vehicle was in motion. The driver then went to a repair shop and had the door temporarily secured. The failure recurred on a separate occasion. The authorized dealer was notified of the failure and the vehicle has not been repaired. Updated 04/21/09. Updated 04/21/09.

My mechanic said that the door latch can break because of the door hinges or something like that because the door does not close easily and you can see where there is damage to the latch on the door jam.
