1 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 12/20/2004

While getting off the highdway about six months ago I hear a pop and my truck started to slide to the right almost striking the driver next to me. I manange to get to the side of the road and got out,to find out that my left front wheel was half off. Tow to the shop and found out it was tie rod failure. Since that time I have hsd to have the short shaft replaced, the tie rod replaced again on the right side. Also when it first failed they also had to replace the part that control the abs on the left side. And it still wont stay in alignment. I would also like to note that the truck at this time has less than 90. 000 miles on it ,when I purchase it had 40. 000. The truck is a 1999 chevy Blazer, in the past I have have good luck with chevy cars, but I have never had the problems ith any car I have ever had over the past 27 years. I am very disappointed. I have the work papers in my house as well as being able to obtain them again from the shop,so the date is an estimate. I am writing the now as I past another Blazer on the side of the highway with it left wheel in the same conditon. I guess it may be best to stay off the highways. I was just lucky I had just gotten off when my wheel failed.

While performing an oil change consumer noticed that the steering arm adjusting sleeve for the tie rod had 100% surface rust. This could rust through, and result in steering loss. The adjusting sleeve was only 1/8 of an inch thick. Dealership and the manufacturer indicated that this was okay, but would not supply documentation to support the assertion. . This was a common problem with these model vehicles.

5 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 04/23/2002

Tie rod - while driving on i95 in virgina yesterday I pulled into a rest stop. While slowing down I heard a very loud grinding sound. As I stopped the car I had no control over the stering. I exited the car, looked underneath the front end to find that the drivers side tie rod had come loose. Once again as with my failed engine in this car I was lucky that this happened while I was slowing down. If it happened 30 seconds before when I was traveling at 70 miles an hour or 30 seconds after I left the rest area I would have been in a serious, possibly deadly car accident. The car was towed to the nearby Chevrolet dealership for repair. The mechanic that inspected and fixed the car and the service writer both told me that they have never seen a tie rod come loose. I would like to know how it happended to this car. Window one day after receiving this car back from the dealer when the engine was replaced I was sitting at a red light and the passanger side rear window closed by itself. I was not able to open it again that day however I was able to open and close it the next day and this has not happened again. However, what caused this? and what would have happened if a child was leaning out the window and the window closed on it's own and would not re-open?.
