The front tires are worn, and I have been told that I need upper and lower ball joints. I have had these replaced in the past. This is a continual repair and getting costly. I called gm and they told me there was a recall but because of the time that has past that it is no longer covered. I am in fear of getting in an accident driving the way it is. It is very unsafe. I was told also that I need idler arm replacements.

I took my 1997 Chevrolet Blazer in to my mechanic to have all tires replaced. I was called about an hour later to be informed by him that both lower ball joints were bad, also the idler arm needed replaced. I was informed that there was a re-call some time ago that the manufacturer would replace at no cost to the consumer. After calling general motors, I was informed that the recall did not include the "VIN #" for this recall.

My 1996 Chevrolet Blazer did not pass a state inspection due to corrosion of the upper and lower ball joints and as well that the idler arm,. The front steering and suspension must be replaced. Upon searching the internet, I have discovered that this has been a serious problem with 1996 Blazer's and a recall was issued. I did contact Chevrolet and speak with a representative about the recall, however, after providing my vehicle's VIN number, I was told that my Blazer does not qualify for the recall. I feel that this is inappropriate. If my vehicle is experiencing the exact same problem discribed in the recall, then it should qualify for the remedy.
Lower ball joints wore out at 800 miles on vehicle. This was noticed when consumer took vehicle into repair shop. Contacted dealer. Dealer also found idler arm loose. I have had severe problems with the suspension on my truck. I have recently taken it o pinkerton Chevrolet and wanted them to fix the problem . At this time I did not know of any recall on the 1996 and 1997 models. I thought I would have to pay for this repair. But the guy at the place informed me there may be a recall, but he wanted to look at it and call me back. Well a few hrs later he called me and said that it was not my ball joints it was the idler arm so I had it replaced and thought I was done. Well 3 days later my truck is worse than it was before . So I have since called the dealer and I am going to take it today to see if we can come to terms on this. My complaint is that there is a recall on the 96 and 97 models, is my truck affected? why did the mechanic tell me he checked ball joints when he didn't . He sent me on the road unsafe with my child. And probably fixed something not broken. Was I scammed? is the a way to absorb the cost of a recall at the publics expense? not good business. Were left over parts used on 98 vehicles? is this considered when a recall is determined necessary? are the parts stamped to determine manf. Date on parts?.
