The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact took her vehicle to the dealer because she heard a loud noise coming from the wheels. The dealer stated that the two front tire hubs needed to be replaced. Several days later, while attempting to park the vehicle into a parking space, the front passenger side tire spontaneously detached from the vehicle. The failure almost caused a crash. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and they speculated that the hubs were defective. The dealer repaired the hubs. The contact has all of the documents pertaining to the repairs made to the vehicle. She also has possession of the failed component. The current and failure mileages were 81,200.

In December of 2003 my wife and I drove our 2001 Chevrolet Blazer 4x4 home to north carolina from massachusetts where I am stationed in the us coast guard. On January 14, 2005 I took the vehicle in for its state inspection in nc and found out that the left wheel hub was so loose that the whole wheel was about to come off. The odometer read 68267. Today (8/13/2005) my wife came home from church and told me there was a problem with the Blazer. The abs light was illuminated. I was curious so I jacked up the front of the vehicle and come to find out the right wheel is about to come off. The hub is that loose. I am going to find out more on Monday when I get the vehicle in a shop.

Had front passenger side wheel hub (wheel bearing) assembly replaced in October 2004. In March 2005 same wheel bearing failed which needed replaced again. Now on the driver side the wheel bearing is making noise. I looked into this and alot of people have had the same problem with these vehicles and wheel bearings. This is very unsafe as the wheel bearing holds on the front wheel thus could cause wheel to fall off while driving.

Left front hub bearing bad at 52,401 miles.
The wheels were not seated properly on this particular trailer. When trailer was being pulled at any speed the hubs overheated. This caused the axel to be damaged beyond repair.

I have at least 1 friend whose general motors vehicle had the same failure with the wheel hub assembly at similar low mileage. Wheel bearings on a new vehicle should last longer than 37,000 miles. I believe this is general motors/Chevrolet defect.
Heard grinding noise while driving at any speed, mostly while making turns. Took vehicle to repair shop, and was told that wheel hub assembly needed to be replaced.
