1 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 12/02/2025

Water has infiltrated the lower trunk area and fried the sound amplifier. The result is no sounds can be heard from the speakers. This includes sounds and warnings from the safety systems. Seat belt, adas, blis, onstar, turn signals, radio. The rear hatch seals seem to be intact and it is unclear how water is entering this lower area as there is no evidence of water anywhere else in the rear cargo area. A google search reveals many other bolt owners are experiencing the same issue.

2 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 07/24/2025

This tends to only happen below 74 degrees fahrenheit and happens excessively between 72 and 74 degrees fahrenheit. While driving with one pedal engaged (labeled as low on the shifter since they re-used another model's shifter for the first several years of the Bolt Ev), the cruise control will randomly disengage and force the vehicle to immediately slam on the brakes. Usually its not a big deal, but when it happens at highway speed as you're just passing a semi or large vehicle and merging back into the lane in front of it, it becomes dangerous very quickly, which has happened a couple of times now. I would venture a guess that its not related to the cruise control directly, but some system that its relying on is forcing it to deactivate the cruise control. The only other issue this vehicle is having that might be related is that the blind spot detection system is not working correctly on the left side. I know there's a TSB for the aluminum butyl tape becoming damaged or missing, but if that's causing my car to slam on its brakes in front of fully loaded semis, chevy should probably be persuaded into re-coding how their cruise control gets disengaged. Especially since this blind spot detection system issue seems somewhat common. Either way, something is causing my car to randomly slam on its brakes in the middle of the highway and chevy says there's nothing they can do about it because its not setting a code. This is definitely a dangerous safety issue that they should be forced into actually diagnosing more than just plugging a computer in and saying: "whelp, nothing to see here. " and returning it to the customer with a "we can't do anything, sorry. ".

3 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 12/30/2023

The car was parked and when we went out to it, the stereo was crackling very loud static and popping. This continued when the stereo is off. When we reset the stereo, it stopped momentarily and then resumed. Eventually the speakers stopped and just crackled intermittently. After finding a slew of similar incidents online, I opened the rear to find it totally filled with water (see picture, where it is parked on a hill). This filled the subwoofer and drowned the amp, causing global failure of the stereo system. No liquid has been in the rear of my car, and you can tell it is dirty like rainwater. . Read more...

4 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 12/20/2023

Multiple observations of water egress that collects in the rear hatch error, water puddle shorts out audio amplifier and all sounds are disabled. No warnings, no pedestrian warning, no turnsignal click, no audible notifications at all . This is noted on many vehicles and gm has been uncertain as to water access point at this time, meanwhile the customer pays for the repair.

5 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 12/01/2022

Rainwater leaks through the rear windshield wiper grommet and runs down into the trunk shorting out the amplifier that is located at the bottom underneath the tire change kit. Collision alert sounds and turn signal sounds do not function because the amplifier is shorted out. There is no visible sign of water leak unless you disassemble and entirely remove 1) the top trunk cargo liner, 2) lower trunk charger compartment liner, and 3) large styrofoam tray with tire change kit. Water pools around the amplifier corroding terminals and shorting out the amplifier creating an electrical shock hazard. There are no drainage holes in the trunk well so rainwater has no way of draining.

6 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 06/15/2022

When driving down the road with no other vehicles around the blind spot warning light on the passenger side mirror will illuminate and turn off and on several times with no vehicles around. Which inadvertently triggers the forward collision system and locks up the brakes on the car. Once the forward collision system is activated there's no no way to reinitiate acceleration until it turns off. This has happened several times on the highway causing me to have to force my car off under the shoulder to prevent from getting rear ended. With one time happening causing a semi to veer off the road. This is a very unsafe condition, and it has become more prevalent ever since they change the battery in the car.

7 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 03/08/2022

On three occasions the bolt blind spot warning system either did not warn us (three different drivers), or if it did warn by activating a light in the driver side mirror, the warning was not sufficient to avoid all three drivers attempting to change lanes when there was a vehicle in the blind spot. In all three cases the driver put on their turn signal to indicate they were changing lanes, but the bolt, unlike every other car we’ve driven with a blind spot warning system, does not provide an audio warning when there is a car in the blind spot and the turn signal is activated. In all three cases the driver had to swerve at highway speed to avoid hitting the car in the blind spot. After the first incident we researched whether there was a means of enabling an audio sound for the blind spot warning, but we found there is not. The bolt appears to have an unusually large driver side blind spot and because of the placement of the driver side mirror the blind spot warning light does not get the driver’s attention when changing lanes.

8 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 12/02/2021

I made the mistke of purchasing a chevy Bolt Ev in 2019. The cars have been on a recall since 11/2020 for batteries that set fire. Three times chevy has called my car back to the dealership and done nothing but reduce my battery charge level to 80%. This is not acceptable because the car will no longer cross the island and return at this level. They kepp saying they will put never batteries int he cars but that started over a year ago and they have done nothing. When I asked them about when the battery swap might happen they tell me they do not know. When I asked if they had bolts with good batteries that they could swap they said no. I'm being given the run around by gm.

9 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 04/12/2021

The blind spot warning system fails to work adequately. It triggers both false negative and false positives on both sides of the vehicle. It is available for inspection upon request. Even when there are no cars within a quarter mile of me, the lights may come on, alerting me to a non-existent car in my blind spot. If the light turns on properly, it doesn't always turn off when the car leaves my blind spot, just staying on indefinitely. It fails to detect approximately 50% of cars accurately when they enter or leave my blind spot. This defect puts others at risk, increasing the possibility of a side collision when the blind spot warning system fails to adequately inform the driver of an accurate blind spot status. The vehicle was taken to a dealership with an appointment, they refused to inspect or diagnose the problem, stating that myself, the driver, should read the manual and tinker with the vehicle settings. I informed them that I had already read the manual, it stated it may take some time to calibrate and it didn't mention any user accessible settings menu, but I had over 100 miles on the new vehicle at this point and was unable to locate any user settings. The dealership still refused to inspect the vehicle. The vehicle has only been inspected by myself. Besides the false negatives and false positives of the blind spot warning system, no other error messages have occurred. This issue propped up the day I was driving the new vehicle home from the dealership after purchasing. I have attempted to personally improve the performance of the blind spot warning system using documentation found online regarding previous models of my vehicle having similar issues, I have had moderate success with using metal tape akin to duct tape on the rear of the radar sensor that powers the blind spot warning system.

10 Blind Spot Detection problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

The driver's side blind spot monitor never worked well from new with false positives, and by the end of 2019 it just stayed on 90% of the time. The passenger side monitor generally worked better, but still had false positive signals on occasion. There is a TSB (17-na-097) for this issue. With covid, and unhelpful dealerships, it took 4 tries at different dealerships before it was finally fixed recently. The film over the both sensors was non-functional, just as described in the TSB. As there is a TSB, this is a known issue for this vehicle from the factory.
