1 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 01/18/2026

Headlights were brushed clear of snow prior to driving. While driving in snow conditions, the headlights became covered in snow and would not provide illumination to the road ahead. This put me at safety risk making road visibility extremely poor at night. While driving I couldn’t understand why the road was so difficult to see. Upon arriving home, I inspected the headlights to see the snow had completely covered the headlights.

2 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 12/02/2024

The brake/turn signal lights on all of the bolts, including mine, are barely visible during the day. It needs to be recalled. The lights are tiny.

3 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 11/26/2024

This car has one pedal driving (opd) which allows you to slow the car to a stop, without using the brake pedal. The car activates the brake lights, based on sensors in the car which sense the deceleration. In this mode, the brake lights are not activated by any pedal action by the driver, only by the vehicle's actual deceleration. This all works great except the fact that once the car comes to a stop, the brake lights turn off. This is obviously a hazard for any stopped driver and there are anecdotal cases of rear end collisions caused by the lack of brake lights. This problem is fixed in later models of this car. I presume that this issue could be fixed by a simple software update.

4 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 05/01/2024

In all models before 2022, the brake lights shut off while at a stop in one-pedal driving mode. This is a major safety concern that can be fixed entirely in software.

5 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 11/28/2023

I have a 3 month old chevy Bolt Ev. I like this car. I rarely have any accidents. I am a safe driver. I was hit hard from behind driving while stopped. I was driving on a crowded freeway in austin TX in stop and go traffic. This was a hard hit that broke the rear bumper and bent the rear frame of the car. The chevy bolt rear brake lights are only low on the bumper and not in the expected tail light location. There is a pattern of this accident with this car. I am concerned that this is a usual event in a car with rear brake light issues. I think the lack of visibility of the rear brake light contributed to the accident. This is out of my control. This should be fixed for safety before more accidents happen.

6 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 10/25/2023

Rear brake lights that illuminate upon braking are embedded low in the bumper of the vehicle, not in a location "commonly expected" by motorists. Rear red taillights are in fact conventionally-located upon the vehicle, but they do not illuminate when brakes are applied. They only light up when the headlights are turned on. As a result, the potential for being rear-ended is elevated due to insufficient warning / poor visibility for any motorist following behind. It is my understanding this vehicle was redesigned after it was first introduced, and the rear brake illumination lights were relocated to their current position. In my opinion, this redesign is unsafe. A recall should be issued to require larger rear "conventionally-located" taillights function as actual brake lights, not just lights that illuminate only when the headlights are turned on.

7 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 06/09/2023

The brake lighting only includes the upper light and the lower lights of the vehicle. The lights on the hatch do not light up when braking. Given that the upper light and lower lights are relatively small and hard to see from a close distance or in taller vehicles, this poses a significant risk for rear-ending from another vehicle.

8 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 11/19/2022

The car was changed for 2022 where the brake lights are no longed displayed with the tail lights and instead lower down in the bumper area on small lights. Cars following me do not notice these lights and end up almost hitting me. The dealer states that this is how gm has changed the lights from the prier year. Last year they would only go to the lower light if the tail gate was open for some reason. Which I thing is a good design but the way my car is now is very dangerous and is an acident waiting to happen.

9 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 11/19/2022

Been almost rear ended twice, both drivers said my brake lights were out, after checking, brake lights were working but are so low on car they did not see them.

10 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 05/03/2022

Car electrical system is very glitchy at times worse when it rains. Side mirror falls off if road debris hits outside of assembly. Timeline to replace battery taking too long. Car was sent to dealership ahead of schedule and sold with known battery issue.

11 Exterior Lighting problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Bolt Ev

Failure Date: 06/27/2021

I have had people following me, and almost hit me when stopped at a stop sign, or waiting to turn left, because the brake lights go off while the car is still being held to some degree by electric motor braking. When driving the car in l mode, one pedal driving, the brake lights come on when decelerating, but when stopped they turn off. The issue is, there is some electrical braking applied when stopped at a stop sign or light, even with no foot on the brake pedal. The car will hold on a slight grade when in l, with no foot on the brake pedal. As far as I understand the law, if there is service braking being applied, the brake lights must be on. I also believe that the electric motor holding back is considered to be service brakes on an ev. I've heard gm corrected this issue on the 2022 models, and I think it should be corrected in the earlier models. Another issue is tall vehicles following close behind me don't see the turn signals because they are in the bumper, mounted very low. I've had people blow the horn at me several times for turning, when they did not see my turn signals. They are working properly, just too low for some vehicles to see when they are close behind. The turn signals are separate and are much lower than the brake lights.
