The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet C1500 2wd. The contact was coasting and attempted to brake but the pedal abnormally traveled to the floorboard as the brakes failed. The contact placed the vehicle in neutral and applied the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was inspected and it was determined all four brake lines wee severely rusted and corroded. . The manufacturer was made aware of the incident. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000. . . Updated 12-23-13.
Service brakes failed due to corroded brake line above rear axle. Park brake failed to slow the vehicle due to the rear brake dustshield being corroded to the point is was completely gone. The lack of a dust shield allowed the park brake shoe and linkage corrode and become inoperative.
Rupture of hydraulic brake lines including anti lock portion, total loss of braking.
