Vehicle Speed Control Problems of Chevrolet Camaro - part 1

* initial transmission failure: -in February 2025 my vehicle began experiencing severe and rough shifting, which was quickly followed by a "check engine" light. I immediately took the vehicle to dealer for inspection. * dealer diagnosis and repair: -the dealership diagnosed the issue as a worn-out transmission solenoid and valve body. They informed me that they had to install a newly redesigned valve body and replace the solenoid. The repair was completed at my expense, and I paid approximately [$3000]. The dealership had my car for over six weeks, during which I was not provided a courtesy vehicle. As a result, I incurred thousands of dollars in rental car fees. * denied reimbursement claim: -the recall notice included information about reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses. I was told by the dealership's service advisor that I would receive a reimbursement form, which I did. I meticulously filled out the form and submitted it with all the required documentation, including my repair invoice and proof of payment. The dealership rejected my claim, stating that my specific repair was not covered by the recall and that the recall was only for a software update. This is demonstrably false, as the recall notice itself links the software issue to premature component wear, exactly what I experienced. * ongoing safety concerns: -to make matters worse, I am now experiencing new transmission issues, including slipping, just months after the "repair. " I am terrified to take the vehicle back to the dealership, knowing I may have to pay thousands more for rental cars and another repair that may not even solve the problem. I am concerned for my safety and the safety of others on the road, as a failing transmission can pose a serious hazard. I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate this matter. It appears that gm and its dealerships are misleading consumers and failing to honor their responsibility to reimburse owners for expenses directly caused by a known defect.

The car would not accelerate and while in drive, the car began to roll backwards. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - as I the car stopped accelerating, I was at a red light with other cars present. I have to put my car in park and have my emergency brakes. Luckily the car did not ram into me and luckily I did not ram into the other car due to the car rolling backwards. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? - yes the transmission needs replace. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? - it has been inspected by my local dealership (not at the dealership that the car was previously bought from) were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? - no.

The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph and making a right turn the accelerator pedal erroneously extended down causing the contact to loose control of the vehicle and crash into a utility pole. During the crash the contact sustained a fractured right ankle and concussion and was transported to the local hospital. A police report was taken at the scene. The vehicle was destroyed and towed away. The contact stated that during the incident the accelerator pedal automatically depressed but the cruise control was not activated. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 77,000.

My 2013 Camaro had 89k miles, garage kept in excellent condition. My vehicle had never given me any issues and has impeccable maintenance records. I was pulling out of a parking spot when my engine started riving and jerking and I accelerated while in reverse and hit a concrete post behind me. I applied the brake and placed the car in drive. My car took off with a high speed of acceleration with my brakes still applied, and accelerated out of control. It followed the same path back into the parking spot ( I could not stir it) jumped the curb and ran through a brick wall finally coming to a stop in the middle of the business. The engine was still racing and in drive but the car had finally stopped and in a state of rest. I had to put the car into park and kill the engine. I could not control the car, the engine was racing with high rpm’s on its own, and driving in “ auto pilot” for lack of better term. Not one air bag deployed despite the fact I ran through a brick wall and totaled the car.

July 10 2022 at approximately 3:53 pm. The car (2016 Camaro rs) stopped in the middle of the car wash , this car was is a automatic rolling system which means you put the car in natural upon entering and in drive open exting , the car wash was malfunctioning and the car was stopped / stuck there for 5 minutes while the car wash spray systemwas running , then the car wash started to roll the vehicle toward the exit. Upon putting the car in drive to exit the car wash the car did a sudden unintended acceleration which caused hitting the 2010 Lexus 250 in the rear bumper area. The distance from the car wash exit to impact was approximately 25 feet , speed of impact approximately 8 mph. Heavy break pedal where applied no serious injuries on either party. I would consider this as an incident.

I had bought a 2017 Camaro on 5/18/2021 and on 6/13/2021 I was in a car accident and once we were hit the air bags pop out we were not going to fast and on the driver side the embrome pop out and also smoke the driver had put his arm to cover his face and he has the mark on his arm of the embrome.

At random times the car will get the check engine light (code p2138 when scanned) & show a message on the dash saying “engine power reduced”. This happened to me twice while driving on the highway & 4 other times while driving on city streets. When this happens , I have to pull over to the side of the rode as fast as I can to avoid getting hit by other vehicles since the car looses power. The car has been to the Chevrolet dealership a total 4 times having the pedal replaced but the issue has not been fixed.

My Camaro began shaking violently when the car was stationary. I thought that maybe the car was cold due to me not really driving during covid,so after letting the vehicle warm up, I drove away. As I drove down my street, the transmission light, as well as all of the traction, electronic stability control lights came on. While continuing to drive, the car began to make hard jerking motions. I see that there are many complaints for the electronic stability control, electrical and power train complaints on the NHTSA website dealing with this same concern (as well as the key getting stuck in the ignition which is also a complaint. I want it documented just in case an accident, or god forbids a fatality happens, they will have been notified prior. This needs to be recalled. Please share with the manufacturer and/or Chevrolet.

The vehicle was towed to caliber collision and was awaiting an insurance adjuster assessment. The contact had received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v148000(power train), which the contact related to the failure; however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

On August 17, 2019, I purchased a certified pre-owned 2015 Chevrolet Camaro from chapman Ford of horsham. The certified pre-owned Chevrolet Camaro that I purchased is defective and does not conform to the manufacturer and dealer express and implied warranties. The vehicle is currently located at chapman Chevrolet in philadelphia due to the vehicle suddenly shutting off without warning while my husband was driving in traffic on the highway. The technician who diagnosed the problem determined that the cause was due to a large pre-existing water leak from a hose detaching from the sunroof that is located in the trunk corroding the wiring and causing electrical system damage that existed prior to my purchase of the vehicle. When I purchased the vehicle, the mileage was 29,883. The current odometer reading of the vehicle is less than 34,000 miles. This is clearly a design and safety defect that endangered my husband's life, as well as mine, and could have resulted in the car catching on fire or causing a crash. This defect of the car has substantially impacted my ability to use the vehicle and its value. The defect has also rendered the vehicle unsafe for use. We have been told that once the vehicle is repaired the hose located in the trunk can detach again without us knowing and water would be able to leak into the electrical system. Constantly get a shudder at low rpm's 30-50mph- like the car does not know what gear it wants to be in. Also recieve p0122 code of throttle after fast acceleration. Taking this to performance engine place to diagnose.

As I'm driving at 55mph or higher, all of the sudden the car shuts off and comes right back on and all you see are all the dashboard lights turn on and off all at once which is scary because when that happens, you have no control of the car because once the car shuts off, for that one or two seconds it does this you have no control and the steering wheel locks on you. The car will also not allow you to press on the gas peddle to make the speed go up, at time when I depress the gas peddle, the car hesitates and does not want to accelerate and then all of the sudden it accelerates at a very high speed without you controlling it.

I was driving in the city and my 2014 chevy Camaro 2lt rs stopped working. It just completely shut off while driving and the steering locked up. This is a big safety hazard as it could've happened on the highway. In order for the car to drive again, the car had to be put in park, turned off, and restarted. This happened multiple times in the past week and it keeps happening over and over. A recall is mandatory for this life endangering hazard.

Gas peddle stuck to the floor twice while I was in motion on a country highway, forcing me to high speeds before I could shut down engine stop and pull peddle up off floor. Rear of peddle mount broke loose from floor causing peddle to overlap front of mount. Dealer tried to say it is fine just dont push it hard and it wont stick I insist it be replaced dealer is reluctant to fix sent me home with broken peddle and says they are ordering parts. These peddles are cheap junk and I beleive more will fail.

Tl- the contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated that while pulling in to the drive way at 10 mph the vehicle inadvertently accelerated without warning. The vehicle has stalled numerous times attempting to start from a stop. Vehicle has also stalled going up driveways. Only way to avoid stalling is to not apply throttle or ride the clutch which is going to prematurely wear said clutch.

When taking off from a stop, at normal speed, the engine bogs and almost stalls. This requires a re application of the clutch and more throttle to prevent stalling. This happens almost daily. It has happened while pulling into traffic from a driveway and almost caused an accident. I have been driving with a clutch for over 30 years on both cars and motorcycles. Key recall- since the key recall has been done about 3 weeks ago the last week we have been having issues with the car just dying in the middle of the road. It loses all power and shuts itself off. I have contacted onstar and had them do a diagnosis and they couldn't find anything. This is a huge safety issue. It almost completely died in rush hour traffic on the freeway. Thank goodness that I was not on a busy street when it did die completely. I lost all power steering, and all it would do is coast. I did have the key recall done on my car and apparently it is more than just the key that is the issue. This makes me scared to drive my vehicle on a freeway. I don't know when it will die and hopefully not cause a huge accident.

We where driving looking at a local subdivision and we were doing 35 miles a hour when we hit a deer all air bags came out and I broke my wrist and my friend hurt his arm as well I was in the passenger side with my set belt on and when we hit the deer the air bag came out full force that I broke my wind shield as well.

We bought a new 2015 v6 chevy camero. 1/30/2016 the radiator has been replaced/the leek again hose valves reg leak also. The clutch ,fly wheel,barring,clutch wore out not normal. Car will drive into second gear and car will accelerate on own. Burning smell in air vents and car make loud noise when warming up. Gm refused to buy back or give down payment for another auto. Well fill unsafe and not happy. Gm refuse to do anything to help. Car has under 12 thousand miles. We dont feel safe and not happy. No working number to call corp in detroit. I told gm we also see these cars start fire inside on internet. We dont want to be in this car. We are stuck in something unsafe and they do nothing to help. Because its not them in this position. We have warranty and extended one to. They refuse to pay for clutch but dealer did absorb cost for repair. We dont trust this car and we are not happy. Please help when reading this complaint to get us out of this unsafe car. These problems are one after another.

Engine power reduced, service stabilitrak light while getting off highway, car slowed down significantly. I cant imagine what may have happened had I still been on the highway. This is extremely concerning. Apparently this is a know issue with chevy & gm cars. I have seen many forums and it seems nothing resolves this issue. When shifting from 1st to 2nd hear there is an issue with either the transmission or the engine. It almost stalled when shifting. This happens all the time. I've had the transmission finished already, but seems like it's having more issues. Started after I bought the vehicle, no real start date on issue.

I have brought this vehicle to the gm repair facilities on multiple occasions for an issue that I find unsafe and unsettling. As the vehicle is travelling above 50 miles per hour or greater it will make an uncommanded right or left turn sometimes accompanied with a flashing traction control light. The latest excuse I received from a dealer in florida was that "general motors" states this is acceptable and is troughing. The explanation would be reasonable if the tendency to turn was minor. This tendency to turn is hard and 90 degrees. I have paid to have evaluations completed on the alignment and the tires have worn unevenly / on the outer edges, but the reports indicate the alignment has been good. The road ways are typically straight and level and moisture has not been a factor. My wife and I are both drivers of the vehicle and have both experienced the issue and the technicians at the dealers have reportedly experienced the issue as well but did not locate a cause of failure. Once the dealer contacted gm the issue was considered acceptable by someone on their end.

I own a 2014 Camaro. On may 2nd, we were driving off of an exit from the interstate 270 when all of a sudden, I lost total control of my vehicle. Everything shut down. I could barely star the car. I had no power at all. When this happened, it also sounded like my engine locked up. We were literally about to freak worrying we were going to get rear ended. Luckily, we were able to coast into an apartment complex. I could not restart the car and waited about 5 minutes until it would restart. I then took the car into a dealership here telling them it is a death trap. I informed them that I have given them notice of the dangers driving this car and if something happened to us, I would hold them liable since they had been warned. Honestly, I am worried now about driving that death trap.

As I was driving through a school zone, my vehicle began to make a roaring sound and accelerated in speed. I kept pressing the brakes, but it would not decline in speed. The only thing I could do was make every attempt to avoid an accident and continue to press on the brake. My passenger and I were screaming to the top of our lungs and panicking. With stop signs and traffic lights up ahead, I was horrified. I continuously pressed on the brakes. Minutes later the roaring stopped and the car decreased in speed. After the incident, I immediately, called the dealership. And I brought the car in. I have taken the vehicle ,prior to the incident, to the dealership several times with concerns regarding the issue of speed control and strange sounds coming from the car. They told me that they could not find a problem. I had to pick up the vehicle. Although the car had done this before, this last experience has been the worst. I feel that they are brushing me off. I could have lost my life and caused injury my passenger, to my children and others. I am attempting to make every effort to resolve the issue but I feel helpless. In fear, I do not want to drive the vehicle. However, I purchased the vehicle to secure a primary source of transportation.

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated while driving at approximately 65 mph when the contact noticed on the control panel engine power is reduced. After the message the contact stated that her vehicle would not go over 20 mph. The dealer diagnosed that the throttle body induction needed to be cleaned and replaced the induction kit. This Camaro has been in our family since August 2011, as a daily driver for my wife, purchased from a gm certified used dealer. Leaving the parking lot from a trip to walmart today, not even going 10mph, the vehicle begins to slow down stating "engine power is reduced", with both the check engine light on and the stability trac light on. We were able to limp home under 40mph. Nothing is noticeably wrong, but now the car runs on a rough idle, it's sitting stationary for now. Doing research, I have found this is a common problem with ls3's, mostly having to do with the throttle body itself or accompanying sensors. I'm going to change to throttle body and go from there. My major concern is that why isn't this problem a recall worthy issue. It seems to be a major problem with 2010 Camaro's, and many other gm vehicles of the same year with a v8 engine not necessarily the ls3. Why does it take loss of life for gm to fix a major consistent problem. I am really losing faith in this company and it's products. Our 2010 Camaro ss should not be the vehicle sitting in our driveway broken down over a 2001 Camaro ss and a 2002 s10 truck. What is happening to the quality of gm vehicles these days? if they stand by their product, then they need own up to its shortcomings.

Car decelerated, steering lost, resulting in crash with 3 fatalities. Air bags did not employ any time.

Throttle body positioner is bad after barely over 3 years of use. Was reducing speed from 55 to 0, after coming off a highway approaching a stop light, and while in neutral "engine power is reduced" warning displayed on screen, vehicle began idling irregularly (bouncing between 800 and 1100 rpms) and then when the light turned green the car would not accelerate. Was able to limp at about 20 mph until I reached a parking lot, turned the car off and waited a few minutes, restarted and it was fine again. Problem has occurred on 3 separate occasions recently, gm mechanic said throttle body positioner was determined to be at fault. Should not be any faults after 3 years and 40k unless the part itself is faulty.

I was driving approximately 60 mph on a county road & upon approaching the city limits I put on my brakes to slow down & they failed to work. I tried again several more times & they still failed to work. I was quickly approaching a red light, & several cars that were stopped at this red light, & I put both feet on the brakes & was barely able to contain my car. It slowed down finally, just inches away from the car in front of me, but it was continuously reving up by itself while I still had both feet on the brakes. It was still trying to accelerate by itself. I panicked & threw it in park & then it just shut off by itslef. I was able to crank it again & drive home.

I reached out to mr. Ackerman, gm ceo on may 24, 2013 with a strong concerns of power failure for the 2nd time while driving the vehicle; causing me not to have control while the vehicle was driven. Thus it was also noted that I originally reached out to gm to request a replaced vehicle while my vehicle was under warranty due to the vehicle losing power on a major freeway; which was life threatening; however the response back from gm was a declined letter that I received ensuring me that the vehicle was safe to drive. I travel major freeways as part of career so having a reliable vehicle is imperative as for I value my life. Ms. Alicia boler-davis , senior vice president of global quality & customer experience is not honoring the warranty too. After assisting me with my car for 5 months . Please not my 2010 Camaro ss is park as for it's not safe to drive. ( gm offer me a contract to sign that would guarantee "no fault to gm ". I couldn't not due them should my Camaro harm myself or others while driving it. I was told that gm knows there is a problem with the Camaro but can't find the problem. It's has been noted that the corrections that I need to have made in order to be safe in the gm vehicle cannot be obtained as for my vehicle has been keep chevy for shop 5 months.
