15 problems related to air bag not deploy have been reported for the 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The consumer was driving approximately 50 mph, when she tried to avoid an accident, but veered right off the road onto a safety school complex. She then hit a mailbox pole. The airbags failed to deploy on impact. The consumer stated that she hit a curb and the vehicle sailed over it into the mailbox.

Vehicle was traveling about 50 mph and hit a large fence and cement structure which caused vehicle to roll over and sustain frontal impact damages. Upon impact, passenger's airbag deployed, but driver's airbag did not deploy, which did not protect the occupant in this crash. Manufacturer has not been contacted. Consumer was at stop when he was rear ended with great force, causing vehicle to move forward, hitting vehicle in front . Dual air bags did not deploy. Accident caused damages to the front end of vehicle, ,hood was pushed back into the windshield. Consumer feels that the recall corrective action for the airbag deployment caused the airbags not to deploy.
