Steering Wheel problems of the 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier

Seven problems related to steering wheel have been reported for the 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Steering Wheel problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2002

While driving at 25-30 mph steering wheel locked up and would not allow consumer to make a left turn. Contacted dealer ,and dealer was not willing to do anything.

2 Steering Wheel problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2001

Intermittently when making a turn steering wheel will lock up. Dealer is inspecting vehicle.

3 Steering Wheel problem

Failure Date: 04/18/1999

While driving at any speed steering wheel lock ups. At lower speeds the steering wheel is very difficult when making a left turn. The dealer is aware of the problem. The problem is being corrected.

4 Steering Wheel problem

Failure Date: 03/01/1997

Steering wheel locked up prior to recall.

5 Steering Wheel problem

Failure Date: 10/04/1996

Heard a noise in steering column area around air bag. Took vehicle back to air bag area checked. Informed airbag not under recall. Has bumper to bumper warranty & mechanic would not check it.

6 Steering Wheel problem

The steering column is 3/4 of an inch to the right of the driver's line of vision. As a result, the rim of steering wheel intersects the driver's view of the warning lights on the panel. When the driver's hands are on the wheel, the view of the panel is completely blocked.

7 Steering Wheel problem

Consumer feels that the steering column is bad. When consumer was making a right turn into the driveway, there was a noise in the steering wheel and it also locked up. Please provide more details. Mr.
