2001 Chevrolet Cavalier. Letter from regarding Chevrolet seat belt malfunction. The consumer stated the passenger side seat belt did not restrain his wife during an accident, but instead it extended its full length. Consequently, the consumers wife was tossed around in the vehicle and hit her head on the window which caused injuries to her face, nose and eyes. Her ankle and fingers were broken and right wrist was fractured. His wife also sustained a stress fracture on her lower spine. The consumer suffered a minor injury to his thumb. Updated 04/29/10. Consumer felt that seat belt wais defective. The seat belt cut into the consumer's neck and it is was too high up on her neck. Also, the lap belt wass too tight around the consumer'swaist. The dealer tried to put extenders on the belts, but to no avail. The consumer still feels uncomfortable using the seat belts. Consumer had two additional concerns. First, the seat belt gets tangles every time it fastened and is uncomfortable. Secondly, the vehicle had 162 miles at purchase and she was told this was not unusual.

The plastic coating/lock mechanism on my 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier's male seatbelt piece is deteriorating, causing the seatbelt not lock the belt into place.
