7 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 10/15/2014

As in the past few years this has happened a few time. As noted here already. I was driving about 40 miles per hour when my car accelerated all by it self to the point I had to shut the car off in traffic. Then restarted and it was driving on its own at 40 miles an hour like cruise was on, I do not use cruise then when I played with the cruise button it went back to normal can't take it in costs to much to look at but it has been a problem since I bought this car just never can have it do it when I take it in and they can't help me if it is not doing it at that time. I want this on record so if something happens to me there is a record of this happening, again since I bought the car it happens whenever it wants to. . .

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 07/08/2014

Speedometer gaugue does not work. Only way it works is to take out the fuse and reinsert the fuse. Fuse box is located on inside left driver side dash. I take out the fourth fuse on the bottm (10a ) I have to do this everytime I stop the engine. This is a safety issue since one does not kow how fast/slow one is driving. Sometimes the speedometer shows 0 mph sometimes it will show 120+ mph. Based upon my internet research this is a very common problem. It is unfortunate that someone will have to be injured before a recall. I brought the automobile to a car mechanic who indicated I needed a new cluster. However, he could not prommise me that it would fix the problem.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 03/16/2013

I just bought a 2005 Cavalier from a private party and a couple days after I had it I noticed that my speedometer said I was going 110 mph while I was on freeway my heart dropped I immediately let off the accelerator to reduce speed. I began to observe that others were passing me so I got off on the next exit. When I came to a complete stop the speedometer read 55 mph. I turned the car off and restarted it hoping that would fix the problem but it didn't. Since then my gas gauge and temp gauge has been reading improperly. I tried to turn off the car and restart it a few times to try to get it back to normal but seems to make it worse. What cab I do to fix this since its a very common problem and chevy won't fix it even though it could cause an accident. I'm a parent and I am supposed to put trust in this car and company to keep my children safe?!?! please recall and fix this problem. Thank you.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 01/22/2013

I was on my way home today and think god my husband was driving. . My gauges are not working on the car which is does from time to time. We merge on a major highway and the gas petal accelatored and would not stop it just keep getting faster,, my brakes would not even stop it or the emergency brake either. . We had to run some red lights because we could not stop it so we could try to get home without crashing the car to stop it but we could slow it down putting it in neutral but it was burning up the brakes and transmission. Finally we got in front my my house and had to put it in park fast just to stop it. The gas pedal only accelates and the brakes don't even work on it. . . We could of died today!!! I'm so glad I was not driving it. . I would of had to call 911 and have the cops box me in to stop. I messed up my brakes and transmission on it just to stop it today. I went online to check for any recalls and I see that people had problems but no recalls. . . I saw my life flash for my eyes today and put my trust in my car everyday thinking that they made it right. . ???.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 12/28/2012

Speedometer does not register mph, stays at 20 mph when at rest and goes up when car is driven but unknown speed person is driving at. Also the temp gauge needle is not even on the area to register the temp of the engine. This is a safety issue and should be recalled. I have heard from my local mechanic that this is a common thing & I have read several posts on line similar to my complaint. Please recall this part so that everyone driving this type of vehicle is safe by knowing the temp of their engine & knowing their driving speed.

This vehicle has lost the speedometer sveral times over the last 20,000 miles and now it has quit completely, I went to an on line forum and they say this has been happening a lot with no recall from general motors. 26 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 06/03/2011

I have had multiple problems with the speed odometer in this car. I can see by several complaints on carcomplaint. Com I am only 1 out of several hundred. It will sometimes say I am going 100 when I am going 25. It will sometimes stay stuck on 55 when I am at a complete stop. I never know how fast I am going. This is very dangerious and could result in an accident or even death of me or someone else. This is very expensive to have replaced and by other peoples complaints to me it sounds like a dad part prduced by gm. I feel that gm should recall these and have them replaced before it results in a death of someone. I will never buy another gm vehicle if they don't recall these parts and replace them since there are so many people out there with the same problem.

Gauge are not accurate at all, the speed gauge either starts at 70 and goes beyond the 120mph mark or just stays on zero which I have no idea what speed im going. Once again my speedometer and coolant temperature gauge don't work. Thank you.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 03/07/2011

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier. For the past few weeks the speedometer has been not working correctly. It will get stuck at 20 mph or it will just sputter up and so I am now constantly having to guess what speed I am going. I have read many forums of people with a 2005 Cavalier having the same problem. If this is happening on a lot of cars, it should not be the responsibility of the owner to fix it. This is very much a safety hazard and should not be happening to so many people, it obviously means it is a faulty part. Please consider looking into this problem since many people are having the same issue that I am.

Failure Date: 07/21/2010

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier. While driving 30 mph, the rpms began to increase and suddenly, the vehicle accelerated on its own. 32 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 05/20/2010

I bought a 2005 chevy Cavalier in may of 2009 and the speedometer is now acting up. It really only acts up when it gets hot inside my car and/or when its hot outside. The speedometer gets stuck on various speeds and next thing I know its not working at all it stays on one constant speed even when I stop, now its below zero and is stuck there, when it cools down it works okay. I took it to the dealer I bought it from and the "answer" was the oil behind the needle gets "gummy" when it gets warm. What?.

33 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 02/02/2010

I own a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier and bought it from a dealer in 2008. Since then all of the gauges are now inoperable. This is a great inconvenience, as well as a safety issue. Not knowing how fast you are going, how much gas you have, or what the temperature is can become a huge issue, not to mention costly. Now, I know this is not the first complaint on these issues and I feel that something should be done about them. If all of these complaints are out, there must be a problem with these cars from the factory. I hope this matter is being investigated and not just put to the side to claim that it must be something that the drivers are causing. Please let us know what the intentions are of gm or whomever is responsible. We paid for these vehicles, which are fairly good ones, can someone please make the decision to take care of this problem. Casandra farmville, va.
