13 problems related to windshield wiper/washer have been reported for the 1998 Chevrolet C/k Pickups. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owns a 1998 Chevrolet ck 2500. While the windshield wipers were activated during a storm, they suddenly stopped working. The failure occurs intermittently. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The current mileage was 41,000 and failure mileage was 35,000. Updated 09/25/08 updated 09/25/08.
The windshield wiper motor wouldn't turn off when switched off, and the speed could not be adjusted using the intermittent setting. It seemed to clear up hours after driving, but this could be a dangerous situation depending on the amount of rain and driving conditions.
Wipers fail to start or stop at any time if they do start to work. I understand that if my truck was a 1997 this would be covered under recall 03023, but since it's a 1998 it's not covered even though it's the same issue!!!(bad control board).
Consumer stated the windshield wiper quit when they were needed. When the consumer turned the wipers on, there was a buzz sound but the windshield wiper didn't work. Sometimes they will work and other times they didn't work. The dealer ship said the circuit board was bad.

My windshield wipers do not work all the time. I know that there was a recall on 1997 and older Chevrolet trucks and I brought it to the attention of the dealer that I take my truck to for service. They said that there is not any recall for my 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck. Please help me!!!!!.
Windshield wiper failure, when wipers are needed, they fail to function, requiring driver to manually move wiper arm to get them started.
The windshield wipers suddenly stop working and make a loud buzzing sound. Sometimes it takes minutes before they work again. During which times it was raining or snowing heavily and at night it is nearly made me run off the road. This is a serious and life threatening defect.

Inoperative windshield wipers. The first time experiencing this problem, I was caught in a heavy rainstorm, in addition to heavy inter-city traffic conditions, on my way to work, upon turning on my windshield wipers there was no response. This is an intermittent problem which has occurred several times and appears to becoming more frequent. This problem also occurs in the washer mode and appears to have a no mode adherence. From mentioning this in conversations, I have discovered this is a reoccurring problem in several other years silverado's. Consequently, gm has another problem they are failing to recognize how many accidents/deaths are going to have to occur before they address this issue, in addition to intermittent problems regarding other equipment that creates a potential safety hazard!.
Windshield wiper on 1998 k1500 pickup operates intermittently, sometimes stopping while operating, at other times not operating when turned on. Hitting the cover on the windshield motor will almost always restart the wipers. Identical problem to that on my 1995 k1500 pickup. Sounds identical to the problems covered in gm recall no. 03023. Problem started at about 75,000 miles, continues to this day at 126,000 miles. Incident date is approximate.
1998 Chevrolet c/k 1500 developed problems with the windshield wiper circuit board. There was a recall to repair the circuit board in 1995-1997 models but not 1998 which exhibited the same failure.
