I've paid over $400 dollars into this car for batteries in the last 18 months because of the manufacturer default. When I got the car, the ignition switch was a problem the first night, and we had to take it back to the dealership the next day, where all they did was spray some wd-40 in the hole. That was before the recall was made news. On sept, 11, 2015 I was leaving a store, and tried turning on the car and it didn't start. I've had battery problems before (with this vehicle too) and just had the battery replaced 18 m ago, but there was no check battery warning light earlier or anything wrong with the vehicle performance. At the time, I didn't think it was the battery because the radio, a/c, etc had no problem turning on but the engine itself wouldn't start. And usually batteries have no problem in summer weather. After a tow getting to the auto shop, they hooked up a charger to the battery, and started it up, and said I needed a new battery! I said no, that's not possible, I got a new battery just 18 months ago. Its probably the ignition recall that is the overall problem because until this year (when the dealership finally got me in) the ignition was slipping out of the off position randomly over-night. Or it might be the fact that the manufacturer put the battery in the trunk where there's no air circulation! what was chevy thinking. In a responsible government, I should be entitled compensation for this, I mean $400 for the same part in a 18 month span because they put a dangerous part in their cars knowingly! ps. I'm looking into chevy issuing me compensation, because I know the auto repariman won't reimburse me on the labor costs, but they say the last day to file a grievance was in Jan '15 so if you would like to contact me on ways over/through it I'.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt. While pulling into a parking spot the contact took the key out the ignition. The vehicle remained on until the contact depressed the brake pedal and put the vehicle in first gear. The vehicle was still engaged after putting the key back into the ignition. Several times the vehicle would not start instead it stalled. The contact did inform an authorized dealer and they installed a new ignition switch at the contacts expense. The contact was concerned since she has only owned the vehicle for one month. The failure mileage was 79200 and the current mileage was 80129.
Chev 2005 Cobalt 63000 mile on the clock , I purchased the car in December 2008 . In Jan 2010 I was driving on a highway at 50 miles an hour when a chime sounded and the console flashed power steering . I did not feel much difference in the car at that time . This next happened 2 days later. It seemed that turning the car off would rectify the problem. With in the month, the car was experiencing the problem on each drive I took with in the first 15 min. I had a problem while in the school car park that it failed and I lost all control I was able to stop the car with the brakes. Almost hitting a small child and the car mounting the curb as I was unable to turn the wheels. I contacted gm in late February when the incident happened and was told the problem is not something they are aware of and that maybe a patch on ice caused the loss of control. It was the following day that while driving on the highway at 50 miles an hour the chime sounded and the console flashed power steering . The car lost all power. It did not stall or run out of gas it quick working . I was unable to get the car to restart. I was lucky that I was in the right hand lane of traffic and was able to pull over to the hard shoulder. The car would not start for over an hour . When the car started I returned home . I had a mechanic look over the vehicle while it was working and no problem other than the failure of the power steering could be found . The car has lost all power and shut down with in 5 mins of the car running . The car will not start . It will be days before the start. It now when it starts, the chime sounds and flash power steering flashes and the car shuts down . This is an unsafe car . The problem is serious and life threatening . To think I could have taken the life of a child if the car had not stopped when it did . The car is sat in the garage I am not able to drive .
My 2005 chevy Cobalt was towed in for the 3rd time in 3 months. It is not even a year old yet. All three times have been exactly the same - I go out to start the car in the morning & the car's electrical system goes haywire and the car will not start. This first 2 times, the dealer said it was an electrical problem & they replaced everything. This last time they said it's just a dead battery. If that is the case, wouldn't they have figured that out the first 2 times? something clearly is awry in the electrical system and it is draining the battery. I don't want this car - I can't trust it to start & the dealer clearly doesn't know what's wrong. I intend to take legal action.
