The car idles very low when stopped and sputters/putters like it's going to die. It has now actually died on me twice while driving, luckily when you put it in park and turn the car off and back on it starts right back up but you can see how this is a severe safety hazard. The first time it died I was stopped in the turning lane waiting on trafiic to go by so I could turn left (this is the busiest street in town) I go to start turning left the car just shuts off mid turn crossing the other lane of the street, luckily I didn't get hit by oncomig traffic and was able to coast onto the side street that I was turning on and pull over and turn the car off and back on and drive it home. I took it to the mechanic and he can't figure out what's wrong with it so he gives it a tune up and now the check engine light won't turn off. . . Fast forward to today it dies again at a stop sign with my 12 year old son in the car. It is especially bad if you have the ac on it seems like it effects the elctrical like the car is going to shut off when I am stopped and the ac is running, so I turned off the ac and it was still sputtering when I would stop but didn't die again. . All of these failed again after repair, the car hes been disabled for over 2 years with the same failures. < dealer recalls 14115 Dec 5, 2014 product safety - electric power steering assist 14113c Jul 17, 2014 product safety - replace ignition lock cylinder and ignition key 14113 Jul 17, 2014 product safety - replace ignition lock cylinder and ignition key.
I took the vehicle in for a recall repair to the ignition. After the repair, my key did not open my trunk. This is a huge problem because the battery is located in the trunk. You need power to open the trunk without a key. If your battery fails, you have no way to access it for repairs. I e-mailed the dealer who responded by advising me to contact the service manager. I did this. The service manager told me they only rekey the ignition to the original key during a recall. If this is true, they key should unlock the trunk. We were able to unlock the trunk before the recall repairs. The service manager told me there was nothing he could do. I have e-mailed the dealer again but have recieved no answer.
While driving power steering message showed on dash, lost transmission control, and speedometer stopped working.
My gas tank is leaking fuel. From the top of my tank.
While driving on the freeway the engine loses power and turns off. Technicians have scanned the vehicle and found no codes. They checked the fuel pump pressure and found it to be within specification (55 psi). They checked fuses and all check ok. Problem is intermittent. Has happened to me twice but technicians have been unable to duplicate the problem.
2006 chevy Cobalt. After coming to a stop ,at a stop sign, for example, steering wheel locks, engine shuts off, key sometimes sticks in the ignition lock, occurs randomly and with out warning. Car will restart and behave normally. Dealer replaced ignition switch under recall in late 2014. Went to dealer service department for help with sticking ignition switch. Currently dealer refuses to reinspect ignition switch with out agreement to diagnostic charge. Contacted gm customer service. Gm admits there is a extended warranty until 2020 for the ignition switch {warranty letter 14632) customer service rep further indicated that any parts replaced have a 1 year warranty only. And my ignition switch is past parts warranty. Gm customer service stated that the dealer is within there rights to demand a diagnostic fee if the dealer determines the problem is not the ignition switch. We indicated to the gm customer service that the ignition switch is locking up again. Its was my understanding that gm feels that the recall repair is a one time event. Gm refuses to look at the ignition switch again unless I agree to pay for diagnostics regardless of any safety issues involved.
While driving today door locks unlock and lock again randomly. It was scary. I was driving in town. Also traction control light and engine light came on. Began running rough and lunging. I am afraid to drive my own car.
Every time it gets too hot outside my power steering comes on in my car switch makes it jerk the car and my engine light comes on. . . This problem happens when the car is moving and when it's stationary. When it's stationary it locks my steering wheel and it's moving it makes the car jerk.
For the past three days driving to and from work my chevy Cobalt has been putting me in danger. When I start to break, sometimes the symbol with a lock and key, and air bag lights will turn on and the car steering wheel would lock and the brakes would come up resulting in the car being turned off while I am on drive. This is dangerous because I cannot turn the wheel and the brake is also locked. I get out of my car in the middle of traffic to push it by myself then jump in it and try to start it. This method works sometimes but is dangerous to not only myself but more importantly others. I do not know what is the main cause for this issue however I did some research and did not see any recall on this problem. I need help fingering it out before I hurt myself or others in the middle of the road driving unable to steer or break.
Traction control light comes on . Difficult to control car due to rough year shifting, lose power steering . Car eventually loses power. Dangerous cannot get out of traffic without causing accident. Turn off car and restart all lights are off and seems ok but will randomly happen again-- two times in same week!!!! this is crazy, afraid to drive vehicle but have no choice cannot lose my job.
I had the ignition switch changed 3 years ago and it is now messed up. My car won't start and I need a new ignition switch.
Takata recall. I have a 2006 chevy Cobalt 2. 2. The traction control light is on and the power steering is on the dash. When driving it has a hard shift to it and power steering at all. It all start with the traction control light come on. I cant not get it off.
A few years ago I had my car sent in for the recall that caused the vehicle to shut off. Now I am having the exact same issue again! when I come to a stop or slow down at an intersection the vehicle will shut off and lose all power! I have done a lot of research and this is still happening for a lot of people. Mechanics cannot give a for sure answer as to what could possibly be causing this issue.
After smelling gas I brought my car to the dealer and they said nothing was wrong. After smelling gas real bad years later I brought it to a repair shop and was told the fuel pump was leaking. This was a covered extended warranty from chevy. The dealer I went to also told me it is definitely a free repair under warranty. I called chevy and they were very rude and told me it is not covered. I would have brought it to a dealer for repair if they sent me a notice. The dealer printed a paper showing me it was covered with no limit in miles or years. Please help.
I was locked inside of my vehicle because the doors would not unlock. While pressing the lock/unlock button from the inside of the vehicle, the locks would not move up/down. It took about 30minutes before the locks opened up and that was only on the passenger side. The driver side never opened. My vehicle was parked/stationery.
Car smells like burning wire, locks unlock all day and all night, some electrical problem drains battery over night. I am terrified. GMC will not contact me.
Bought car in 2016 from silver eagle auto mall in missouri. Call randomly cuts out while driving on city streets in on highway and have to pull over. Have there very close to accidents on multiple occasions. Battery an alternator have been replaced it does not just dial industrial back up it starts right back up. Now as of August 1st 2018 I am currently smelling strong gas once I get out of car with children. . . Can smell a lot from driver side it may seem also this car has started smelling like gas outside of car car won't start sometimes I'm playing multiple turns with keys and is now cutting out even more while driving. . . Been having problems with car since I bought it far as random cutting out I don't know where the smell is coming from it is not from under hood. . . .
Takata recall. My car has been at a chevy dealership about 7 times now and they cannot fix my car, and have no idea what's wrong with it. It just shuts off while I'm driving. The breaks land steering wheel lock up and I lose control of my car. I almost ran over children crossing the street when I made a turn. I had to use my ebreak and I barely stopped in time. This keeps happening and my ignition switch recall cannot be fixed. The car is unsafe to drive. I feel like I'm gambling with my life and the life of others if I drive my car. So I cannot drive it now. This has happened several times in the course of 2 years I've had this car.
Ever since I purchased car it'seems been nothing but problems. First it was both control arm bushing after 1 month of purchasing my 06 chevy colbalt. I've since had to replace the entire front end all except for the steering column. Which makes a loud unsettling rattling noise when I go over the slightest bump or when I turn my wheel left to right while in the park position. But now even more scary my car has been stalling out randomly and I've seen other complaint's about this issue. I've had oil changes and tunes up and a diagnostic test and I've been told the car is okay. It's not okay! today it stalled out while accelerating at a green turn arrow and I got hit from the back by the car behind me turning as well. No huge damage but I'm afraid and would like to know what is the real issue.
After putting my car into park and turning the car off I was unable to get my key out of the ignition switch, which was replaced last year. I had to jiggle the gear shift (automatic) and still had to forcefully remove the key.
This is gm recall #14632-transmission shifter which locks the key into the ignition cylinder. I was parked and couldn't get the key out, which should have been replaced with the recalls under 14v047 & 14v171. Stewart Chevrolet refused to do my key, which I thought was the problem. On 9/25/2015 I filed a compliant with gm asking where else I could go and if it is unsafe to drive the Cobalt with this key and with this new problem. I've never received an answer from gm nor has stewart stepped up to remedy this even now that they know the problem. Is this vehicle safe to drive, as only the first recall problems have been fixed.
While driving all of a sudden speedometer stopped working t/c light came on powersteering light came on. Car wouldn't go pass 35 and door locks kept on locking and unlocking while driving. Gm is saying there's no recalls for this problem. When parked car came out later car wouldn't start but then next day it started but same lights went on but then car never started again, even though we replaced battery.
My vehicle suddenly and completely turned off by itself, while I was driving on a very busy, dangerous highway. Note- I already had the ignition switch repaired under the recall, and I have nothing on my key ring!!! I contacted the gm customer service number (1-800-222-1020) and it felt like no one is taking this complaint very seriously. They put me in contact with the dealer that did the recall repair, and I now have an appointment scheduled in 12 days, which I have to pay for diagnostic testing at $104/hour!!! what's happening to my car now is the same thing that was happening to initiate this recall (and lawsuits) in the first place. How can they be so nonchalant about this complaint, and furthermore, make me pay for it? clearly there is a different problem than what gm is claiming, as I've searched online and have found others still having the same dangerous problem of their car completely turning off in the middle of driving, since they too have had the repairs!!!.
Cpsc: i1540015a. 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. Consumer stated the rusted fuel line leaked and caused an explosion hazard.
I took my car to a repair shop after hearing a strange noise while driving to work. After an analysis, I was informed that the engine had no oil in it and the noise I was hearing was called "engine knock. " I was also informed that the engine was completely shot due to lack of oil. My oil light on my dash never came on to alert me of any problems with my oil. When I start my car, the oil light along with all the other emergency lights (I. E. Traction control, check engine. . . ) light up as usual and then go off, so I know the actual light works but I think there may be a sensor issue.
The ignition switch locks up after I have put my vehicle in park. I then have to start my car again, foot on brake, move my shifter to neutral, back to park and hopefully im able to turn the key to off. The steering is a pain at times to deal with. Especially at slow speeds it jerks sporadically. Also im not sure if this issue has been recalled but I've read many forums of the ac leaking on the passengers floor leaving puddles of water. My car does this, through car washes and when it rains. I've also noticed that you can hear the remaining water flow left behind in the dashboard. I only had this car since November 2014 and have so many problems. If possible, can all recall repairs be performed on my car to prevent any issue in the future?.
I was stopped at a stoplight. When the light turned green I put my foot on the gas pedal and the car would not move. As my foot left the brake pedal it still did not move. While still on the highway, I turned the car off and back on. Once I turned it back on, the car was able to move as normal. The following Friday, the same thing happened (I was stopped at a stop sign and could not accelerate afterstopping. ) this happened multiple times (I turned the car off and on multiple times) and finally, as I was driving normally again with my foot on the accelerator, the car slowed down on its own and came to a stop on its own, as my foot was still on the accelerator.
Strange sounds thought it was hubs recently but on, wasn't. Maybe the crankcase, wasn't. Got louder, more concerned now that my son's were using it to go to work. Realize the many recalls. Non responsive gm. Many weeks wait for replacement parts no loaners.
I have been calling sutliff chevy in harrisburg PA a numberous number of times. Since they replaced my key system the car now just shuts off half the time and the other half the auto lights will not shut off causing the battery to die and leaving me stuck. When I call the service dept they blow me off , I have to leave messages and don't get a return call. I never had any problems with this car since I bought it new and one recall and the car is a piece of crap and so it the assistance I am getting. I used to love my chevy and would never buy anything else and that over,. I realize my car is out of warranty and it to your problem but I will get the work out.
I was driving on a highway at 65 mph and the traction control light and check engine light on the dashboard came on and when I had to accelerate then the car started shifting really roughly. I was half way to my destination and then the traction control light went off and the car shifted smoothly on acceleration. The check engine light stayed lit but the car seem to run fine. When I got home I researched the issue and found that there was over 1800 complaints about this same issue. My car is now parked because I thinks its not reliable. I think this should be, yet, another recall for the Cobalt.
I have a 2006 chevy Cobalt. I have had issues with every part that has been issued a recall so far and then some. The latest issue is that my car is leaking gasoline under the driver side door. I see that there was a recall issued for this in 2009, but only for vehicles in certain states, in which I do not reside. I have also had issues with my ignition for several years, so it is good news that a recall has come up for it. Before the recall was issued for the power steering pump, I had no power steering for six months prior. I think that it is repulsive that gm can manufacture this car and just issue recall after recall with no consequence.
Our drivers side door frequently "stops" working. You are unable to open the door with the inside or the outside door handles while the vehicle is in park or shut completely off. The other 3 doors in the vehicle open without issue, but the drivers door refuses to open (and I do not consider having to climb out the passenger side door or play "dukes of hazzard" a feasible action). After doing some research this appears to be a common issue with the Cobalt and g5. To this effect I am not sure how this has not been addressed with a recall. If I am able to find thousands of results on the issue with a 30 second internet search it has to have been reported. It would seem that this would be a fairly high priority fix due to the risk of someone being trapped inside the car in the event of a fire or some other catastrophe. Granted I do not expect to see a recall on this as it is not technically a life or death defect unless you consider the above scenario. Just though I would take the time to submit a complaint about a car that seems to have way too many recalls in its history already.
My key has been stuck in the ignition for a month now. It has caused my battery to die every time I leave it parked. I took my car to get the ignition recall fixed and when I asked if they could remove it they told me only at an additional cost because it was not part of the recall. When I got my car back I was given two new keys with one stuck in the ignition still. I was really confused as to why they said they couldn't remove my key without charging me when they obviously removed my old key to give me a new set and somehow managed to get it stuck again. After looking up how to fix it I believe the problem is with the shifter. There have been lots of complaints all over the internet with various Chevrolet models regarding this same issue.
Attention general motors, I received the many letters your company sent updating the status of the recall on my car. I appreciated your efforts in addressing the situation. I took my car to davis Chevrolet in houston TX to cash in the recall voucher on 5/6/14. On 6/5/2014 I was told that my car was ready. I was not given a receipt. Page 10, may, 2014, bulletin 14113b was left in my care. I was given a different style of key, key ring, and the same instructions to use prior to repairs. To add insult to injury, it says to make sure any driver knows about the (same) dangers of the original safety recall letters. I took the car back because it keeps stopping to the degree that I did not drive it unless I necessary. I was told that it ¿may be the throttle from sitting up too long. They said I had to pay for it. I complained about not receiving paperwork. I received paper work that reads ¿the car was not safe to drive. ¿ I was given an agent ¿will who I asked if they put in the part that was being built for the car and he said yes. Also, he told me the car was safe even before the repairs. How is the car considered repaired when it has the same limitations as in the recall letters? this remedy does not show any concern for consumer¿s feeling of trust, safety, or comfort in your product. For example, it is a common occurrence for a family member to use a relative¿s car without the owner knowing it. It would be the most fatal experience to learn about it through that person¿s death because they did not know (or understand) the terms of what you consider a safe ¿enough¿ result. Gm ¿ this tells consumers that you do not care. I am asking that you look at my case. I am trying not to take legal action.
