I had gotten out of my vehicle and had locked the driver's side door manually. When I unlocked the door, and tried to get in my car, the door was stuck. It wouldn't open from either the outside or inside. I tried locking and unlocking the door again, but it is still stuck shut. It is very unsafe.
Unable to remove key from ignition switch. The cars' engine will cut off, but the key will not go into the off position. It only turns the key back to the accessory position where the radio is left on. Had to manually turn off the radio. Unsure of whether or not the car should even be driven anywhere else. My son is 18 and just got his license in April. 3 months later he is driving a vehicle that I thought would be a great vehicle and it made me feel proud knowing my son would be driving an american made vehicle. A chevy. Nope. This vehicle is going to be fixed, and as soon as the dealer gets the part for the ignition, which according to them may take 'up to 3 months' this car is leaving our possession. This is totally ridiculous that in a situation where your vehicle will not turn off, they can't make any exceptions. I also, have a chevy Cobalt but mine is a 2010. Both are on the recall list. When I ordered my part, and this was 2 months ago, I was told the same thing. If anything happens and we wreck our vehicle, we will be suing gm. Born and bred chevy, but my blood will soon be bleeding blue for Ford. Period. This is unacceptable.
My 2006 Cobalt has manual door locks and the top knob of the lock in the interior to unlock the door from the inside has broken off flush with the top of the door so when they are locked there is nothing to grab making it impossible to unlock. The top part of the knob simply broke off when trying to unlock the door from the inside. If the door is accidently locked while inside I have to reach through the window and use the key to unlock it from the outside. This IA a huge safety hazzard.
I bought my 2006 Cobalt brand new and it now has 66,000 miles on it. At about 15,000 miles the key locked in the ignition and shifting gears became almost impossible (automatic transmission). It was under warranty so I took it to the dealer and they replaced the shifter assembly. Now today (2/3/11) I wasn't having any problems with my car until I started it and couldn't press the shifter button in to put it out of park. It stayed stuck in park. When I tried to take the key out, it stayed stuck in acc. I was able to manually take it out by pressing the "plunger" under the steering wheel. Called the dealer and had to tow my car there. Again, my shifter assembly has to be replaced with a total cost (after towing, diagnostics, labor, and parts) of $450 out-of-pocket. Due to a cheap plastic piece in the gear shift. Ridiculous.
My 2006 chevy Cobalt has had several instances of the doors not latching and/or not being able to be opened. The driver door, seems to do ok, as long as I keep it lubed. Currently, the rear passenger door will not latch. When I look at the latch, it seems to be moving freely, yet will not latch. It has been tied closed with a rope, since October 2013, as it will cost hundreds, just to have it looked at. It has manual locks, so is not an electrical issue. I need to find a way to fix it myself, but cannot figure out what the problem is.
