1 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2025

The fuel tank has an evap leak that somehow breaks on top the tank so it leaks the gas vapors and could potentially start a fire but the part that breaks is a non serviceable part so it can’t be fixed without purchasing a whole new gas tank that isn’t cheap. My other concern is the infamous grounding issue with the wires on the ground g105 I believe right next to oil filter that grounds the transmission and engine control modules well it shorts at times when driving and suddenly your car dies while driving how scary it could cause a wreak and kill somebody it’s a very scary issue that constantly comes back even after trying to re ground it needs to be recalled and fixed it’s going to kill somebody and it’s a well known issue for this make and model that should have already gotten attention to be resolved.

Failure Date: 07/29/2022

Fuel line leaking similar to the recall on 2008-10 Cobalts -- gas puddles or drips from leaking fuel lines near the left rear wheel well, near the exhaust pipe and muffler. The leak is caused by corrosion of the metal fuel lines that are secured to the body of the car by plastic blocks.

7 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2021

Last year or so, even before than, I noticed suddle fuel odor smell & noticed few drops by left rear wheel area. . . It has progressingly gotten worse and now puddles and smells of fuel constantly. . . All which I traced back to fuel lines by rear exhaust heat shield area where it's very rusty, inline elsewhere around car area. . . Seems to be bad design and or manufacturing issue. . . Also very common I noticed with Cobalt Saturn pontiac models sharing same design & platform. . Very dangerous and needs to be corrected by gm!.

8 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2021

My headlight an blinker quit working new bulbs an all new wiring it it still will not work my trunk button also just stopped working an the fuse is not blown. I even replaced it just to make sure still nothing. Door panel clips won’t stay in bought new ones same thing so now my handle is coming apart an my door doesn’t want to shut bc it thinks I’m still holding the handle. . Fuel everytime I get gas I have to crank my car a few times and press on the gas before I can get it to go otherwise it just dies on me I’ve had it looked at they said it was something about how my car does not know when to stop releasing air I think. My blinkers don’t turn off unless I do it manually. The seals on my door is no good anytime it rains it’s coming inside of my car an since the door panel won’t stay on it’s coming straight into my car.

I began noticing a slight drop in fuel mileage at first. Started smelling fuel while parked and only getting 200 miles to a tank. Noticed the supply and return fuel lines where damp. Dropped the tank and the fuel lines at the pump were cracked a little. I temporarily fixed thos with jb weld but dont expect it to last.

10 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2021

Fuel lines are rusted where the heat tape is around them by the exhaust. This has caused them to rust and no is leaking fuel. I am worried that it's going to catch fire. This is my daughter's car and is a very poor design.

11 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2021

There is a recall for some VIN numbers on the 2006 chevy Cobalt (recall # 09v419000). My VIN number was not included but the exact recalled part was also defective on my car. I wanted to let you know because there are probably several more vins that should be included in this recall, as my car is proof of that.

12 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2021

Fuel line leak by left rear wheel well. Heat shield seems to capture moisture and has rusted line by clip. Results in fuel leak by exhaust system.

13 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2021

My 2006 chevy Cobalt has a fuel leak which was recently a recall. I have been told by several dealerships that it will not be repaired for free. How can this be? I didn't know recalls expired. It's a safety issue and the manufacturer's responsibility. Please advise me on next steps.

14 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2021

The company wrapped a heat shield fiber around a bare metal fuel line causing premature failure of the line in that specific location due to rust from the trapped moisture. The fuel line bursts causing a steady flow of gasoline to pour from beneath the vehicle causing an extremely hazardous situation. The car continues to function, leaving a trail of gasoline everywhere you go. The heat wrap does not appear to affect the brake line due to it's black coating. The fuel lines should also be protected in this area.

15 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2020

My vehicle, a 2006 chevy Cobalt lt, like many other chevy Cobalts I've found in my research, has a fuel leak in the rear driver side. I have not pinpointed the exact leak location but I have a picture displaying the fuel line covered in what seems like an aluminum foil to keep the lines from heating up. Clearly this doesn't work. This is a common issue and I believe it needs to be addressed.

16 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2020

I have had all of this checked by anthony Chevrolet and nothing has been done! state they cannot get parts and or not worth fixing.

17 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2020

Before I get into all of it there has never been an accident not yet at least. I do everything I can to try an stop that from happening, (but accidents do happen) only because I know my car could kill on me so I’m extra careful. 1) after I get gas I’m my car the car won’t start right away. I have to restart it a couple times an step in the gas an rev up wasting the gas I just put in to get it to start. 2) when I stop an start to pull out of somewhere on to a main road the car will just die on me so I’m stuck pulling out in traffic trying to get my car to start again. It’s when I come to a stop an pull out it just kills on me. So I have to make sure no one else is coming an I have enough time to be able to restart it otherwise I’m worried when I pull out of anywhere or stop an go that another car will smack into me because my car just died on me in the middle of the road/ pulling out an crossing lanes. Super scary! 3) let get into the next issue so anytime I run my ac my car starts to do this jumping thing like it wants to kill on me not to mention it has killed on me with the ac on (I live in louisiana an it’s too hot not to have ac plus I have 3 kids) what’s sad is the ac works fine but if you want the car to maybe not die then turn it off an you have a better chance of it not killing off on you but not always a guarantee. So ill run it for second to try an cool down so I’m not drenched in sweat but I have no other choice to turn it off so the car doesn’t just die on me. This refers back to the 2nd problem I make sure it’s off anytime I pull out of anywhere thinking that would help it from killing on me while trying to get out of anywhere but it doesn’t but I can tell you if the ac is on when I pull out when I start to go it dies right as I’m in the middle of the road every time never fails. Mechanics have replaced parts trying to fix the issue, but it still happens I can’t keep buying/fixing things for nada, ongoing problems since buying.

18 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2020

I have had to have the fuel feed line and fuel return line assembly replaced back in Feb 2020 because of strong smell of gas and leaking gas now the issue has started again not sure why strong odor of gas and leaking started about July/August.

20 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2020

Fuel leak near left rear wheel. Smelled gasoline. Parked vehicle. Saw a puddle of gas leaking from the vehicle. Checked with Chevrolet since there is a recall for this issue but was told my vehicle was not part of the recall. There is a special bulletin 12191 covering this issue that should be free of charge to fix but nobody related to Chevrolet I spoke with knows about this.

21 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2020

Gas line is leaking on rear drivers side. Car was at the shop and the gas caught on fire on the ground and could have killed us and all the workers. I think gm needs to do something about this. Mine is not the only car with this issue.

Tl the contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. While operating the vehicle, the odor of fuel was present inside and outside the vehicle. 27 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2018

Fuel lines corroded through leaking enough gas that a puddle would form under the vehicle by the rear driver's side tire when stopped. When towed to the dealer the fuel started leaking by only turning the key to the on position without starting the car.

28 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2018

I had noticed a smell of fuel coming from my vehicle shortly after parking the vehicle, or if it was idling in one space for quite some time. This smell of fuel developed into a fuel drip on to the ground. Researched the concern online, and found there is a recall out for this concern, but not for the state I am currently in. There is a "special coverage" issued (bulletin 12191b) instead for my state which states I can have this concern fixed free of charge. I took it to a dealer, they confirmed I am covered by this special coverage. The dealer has now denied to do the work and forced me to pay for a tow to a different dealer to have the concern fixed, as they refused to carry out the repair.

29 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2017

Gas leak.

30 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2017

Takata recall: I recently purchased a vehicle from someone (private owner) and as the tags will soon expire so I decide to get what needs maintenance done to turn that check engine light off. I got a free estimate from o reilly's and told me to go to chevy and get the maintenance done to my safety recalls. Next morning I drive over to chevy's dealership where I was denied any recall being done by an employee named sean popplewell. I told him to print me out a paper of what had been done, needing to be done and also took it up with the manager. The service manager confirms I cannot be denied for a maintenance but sees that the only maintenance open online is a service update and that there is nothing they can do salvaged or not. As I recently purchased the vehicle I am being denied my right to a safety recall, not only being denied while driving my 1 and a half year old son, in a vehicle who's check engine light is on due to the safety recalls that I am being denied to. I am within my right to 10 years after the recall is distributed to get the recall done within that time, they are not allowing me too. The car is 100% driveable but I need to get this taken care of so I am not denied in my smog test. I was also not the original owner and the law states that I am not held accountable for a previous owners lack of responsibility, I was not aware, I've never had received proper notification I should not be denied service. It's sad to know they have denied me these rights in front of myself and my 1 and a half year old who is in the car 24. 7.

31 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2017

Fuel line rusted out on drivers side because of heat wrap.

32 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2017

The vehicle can mess up from either driving down the highway or trying to accelerate the vehicle on city street or highway that the engine stalls and says "engine power reduced" the check engine light along with the t/c light comes on. It happens multiple times in just 30 minutes of driving, more for longer trips. It will even do it in 10 minutes of driving. You have to pull over and turn vehicle off for a few minutes and then it drives fine for maybe a mile down the road before it does it again, or, you can continue driving it with the pedal all the way to the floor board trying to get speed which if you do the car shifts gear very badly and rides rough but when you're trying to get to work on time you do what you have too. I have taken the vehicle to a mechanic 3 times over this. Throttle body was changed (twice), they replaced the computer and cleaned the wires. One mechanic was the Chevrolet dealership and they told me they needed it there when it happened to better diagnose the situation. I do not have the ability to let them just keep my vehicle. I have had this vehicle for a little over a year. I bought it used. I have a loan on the vehicle and I am scared to drive this any further than I have to because I know the vehicle will mess up. I have two children that I have to put in this vehicle to take places. This vehicle is extremely unsafe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want help with this situation!! this first happened in November of 2016. I do not know the day specifically. I do remember it did not fall under the dealerships warranty that I got it from.

33 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2017

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. While driving unknown speeds, there was an abnormal fuel odor and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was a fuel leak. The contact called the local dealer (munday Chevrolet, 17800 north fwy houston, TX 77090) and was informed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 81,744.

35 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2017

A few days ago, we were in the garage and a strong odor of gasoline was coming from our car, a 2006 chevy Cobalt. We checked online to get this problem fixed and noticed that only Cobalts manufactured in arizona and nevada were covered. Really gm. Since we live in ohio, our safety is not high on the list as those who live in arizona and nevada. I really hope that NHTSA can enforce a recall so this issue can be fixed. There are many complaints surrounding this issue on the internet.
